FromthisweseetheloveofMary fortheSacredHeartofherDivine Son,andwelearnhowtouniteto devotiontowardsourDivineSavioar abecomingdevotionalsotowards hisblessedmother.Infact,the newScapularteachesustounite thesetwoprofitabledevotions.

OurDadeinduecourseunfolded moreexplicitlywhatsherequiredEstelletodo.Menshesaid,wereto Pray;forlonghadthetreasuresof hersonbeenopen.Whilesasingthoi theblessedVirginraisedfromher bosomasmallpieceofwhitewoollen stuffwhichshewaswearingthere, andshewentontosay"Ilove thisdevotion."Uponthesmall pieceofwhitewoollenstuffwasa pictureofourSaviour'sbleeding Heart.Estelleatoncerecognisedit astheScapularoftheSacredHeart. Thisapparitionoccurredonthe9th September,1876,andfromthatday untilthe8thDecember,duringwhich timeshewasfavouredwithseveral visits,ourLadyalwaysworeupon herbreastthesamesymbolicalPicture.HavinguPonthetithNovemberstriventocop',thistreasuredpieVire,EstellereceivedfromourLady wordsofapproval,forshesaid:-"Youhavenotlostyourtimetodel\becauseyouhaveworkedfor me."Then,smilinggraciously,our Ladysaid:-"YoumustMakemany moreofthem.Courage!"

OnthemotionofRev.MylesRoean,C.C.,secondedbyMr.P.J.Daniel,itwasresolvedthatthetime hascomeforthepromotionof a DublinVigilanceCommitteetodefendourpeopleagainsttheinsidious attemptsofmodernjournalismto corruptthem.FatherRonan:laid theCatholicsofDublinwereabout toenteruponagreatcrusade,a holywaragainsttheenemiesof Christianmorality.Theyhadlong borne-withacertainamount of shame.nodoubt-theinsidiousattackoftheseenemiesofthepeople, andhadconcealedthemselvesbehind closeddoors.Someofthemhad fromtimetotimecriedoutinthe wilderness,huttheircriesfoundno echo. Havingcondemnedtheimmoralpapersthatfind;heirwayintothe cityofDublininsuchlargenumhersfromGreatBritain,FatherRonansaidattentionmustbecalledto theattitudeofsomeIrishnewspaperstowardsthemorbidtastefor thesensationaland"shady."Itwas timetomaketheconductorsofthese journalsexaminetheirconsciences. Fornojustreasontheybadbeen guiltyoverandoveragainofpublishingveryobjectionablestories,continuedweekafterweek,andofgiving intimatedetailsoftheprivatelives oftheunfortunatevictimsof the DivorceCourts.ItseemedoutrageousanddegradingfortheIrishPress toimitatetheirfellow-pressmenacrosstheChannelbyPanderingtoa depravedtasteandalowmoral sense.Mr.Daniel,hon.Secretaryof St.Lawrence'sbranchoftheCatholicYoungMen'sSocietysaidthey hadcircularisedthenewspapersof Dublin,andtwoofthemundertook nottopublishdivorcecourtproceedings,huttwoothersrefusedpoint blanktocomPlywiththeirrequest. Noobserverwithanyexperiencecf lifecanfailtoseetheterriblehavocthatinfidelandimmoralbooks arecausing,evenamongstthechildrenoftheChurch.Faith find Christianmoralityarethreatenedat thePresentdaybydangersmoresubtleintheiractionandmorefellin theirdesignthanthepersecutionof theRomanEmperors,thedevastating incursionsoftheGothsandVandals, orthebarbaroustyrannyof the Turks.Revoltingpublications,in whichalltheordinarylawsofdecorumandreticencearesetaside,and whereviceappearsnakedandunashamed,the andgodlessness thatpoisonandcontaminatesogreat aportionoftheworld'spresentliteraryOutput,theeconomictheories, vainandunsubstantialasphantoms ofthenight--alltheseareresorted toinordertorobthepeopleofthe pricelessjewelofCatholicfaith.

Anotherproblemwhichclamours forsolutionisthedistributionof ourpamphletsamongstthethousandsofmenandwomenwhowould readthemiftheycouldbeputinto theirhands.Thistaskisbeyondthe meansandPoweroftheExecutive CommitteeoftheSociety,and shouldbeundertakenbytheordinary membersandothersasoneof the Christianworksofmercy.Itshould betakenupasthefulfilmentofa date.,asaseriousattempttoJell) ourneighbourinhisgreatestneeds, hisneedofthetruthandthegrace ofGod. AgentlemanfromSouth Australia,tiredwithlaudablezeal, formakingCatholicteachingbetter known,andforextendingtheusefulnessofourSociety,submitsthefollowingplan:-Whereverthereisa'residentpriest-orevenwherethereis not-letabranchoftheAustralian TruthSocietybeformed. When therewasapamphletprinted,acopy shouldbesenttoeachbranch,askinghowmanywouldbewanted,the numbertodefendontheclassof PamphletandwhetheritwassuitablefordistributionamongProtestants.Thebranch,then,wouldorderthenumberwanted,sendthe namesandaddressesoftheProtestantstheywouldInvacopysent to,andforward,atthesametime, thecostofthepamphletsandPostage.Heconsidersthatitwould 1e betterforourcentralofficetodo theposting,ratherthanthelocal branch.Inthiswaythecostwould betrifling,therewouldhealarge circulationamongstthebetterclass ofProteseants,andthewaywould hepavedforabetterunderstanding andamorefriendlyfeelingtowards Catholics.Thisplanissurelyfeasible,andaeresPectfullecommendit fortheconsiderationsofthe"captainswhotaketheirmarchingordersfromthePope."

Inviewoftheurgententreaties anddirectionsofthelateandPresentPontiffs,westrongluappealfor greatersupportforthecausein whichweareengaged-thecauseof theCatholicPress.Itisnowmore thaneverclearthatthebattleofthe futureistoliebetweenfaithand infidelity.TheCatholicPressisthe onlypowerthatcancopewiththe threateningevil.Letapathytowardsthisgreatcausecontinue.let thefloodofthesecularPresscarry ourpeoplewithit,andtheresult wouldassuredlybethewidespread ruinofreligionandthedegradation ofmorals.Undertheguidanceof theChurch,ourSocietyhasraised thewhitebannerofpurityandinnocenceinliterature,andwemaketold tocallonallAustralianCatholics forsupport,biddingthemtorememberthatthecauseisvitalandthe needurgent.
