Whenwereadofyoungmenmho haveattendedCatholicschoolsand colleges,andwholaterhaveentered uponwildordishonestcourses,the firstimpulseistothinkthatthe schoolandcollegetraininghasbeen toblamebutifweexamine,thecase morecloselytheprobabilityiswe shallfindthatthehomeiniluencenullifiedandrenderedvainanduseless thelessonstaitzntintheschool.
Everychildattendsthreeschoolstheschoolofthehome,theschoolof thestreet,andtheinstitutionthat istechnicallyaschool.ButthelessonsgiveninthefirsttwoareJust asimportantasthelessonstaught inthelatter.Theparent,therefore shouldseetoit,sofaraspossible, thatthestreetandthehomedonot destroythetrainingoftheself-sacrificingteachers,betheysisters,brothersorpriests,whoaretryingconscientionsldayafterday,tomould thecharactersaswellasto instructtheMindsofthechildrencommittedtotheircare.
Againandagain,wewishtorepeatthattheparentsarethe:first teachers,andthattheycannotpiece upontheCatholicschooltheresPosibilityfortheirchildren'strainingthatGodhasprimarilyplaced uponthemselves.Bysendingtheir childrentoaCatholicschoolthey aredoingapart-agoodpart,itis true,butnevertheless,onlyapartoftheirduty.Theydonotperform theirwholeduty.unlesstheythemselvesarecarefulbywordandexampletomakeoftheirhomesschools ofChristianthoughtandconducthomeswhereChristianfaithisthe foundation,Christianhopetheinspiration,andChristiancharitythe comfortandconsolationoftheever.daylife.Suchhomesasthese, wheresobrietyandcheerfulnessreign wherethereisnounkindanduncharitableactorword,andwherenot theloveofmoneyorofpleasureor ofsocialdistinctionistheideal,but theloveofGodandthedesiretodo Hiswill,costitwhatitmay-such homesasthesearetheverybestauxiliariestotheCatholicschool,and itischildrenrearedinsuchhomes asthesewhoaretrueinlateryears totheirCatholictraining.

6.HOW'1'0FINDTHEDIVINE TEACHER.
IfChristlaiddownconditionsfor gainingthekingdomofheaven,and ifHewisheseveryonetoobtain thatreward,itwillfollow,asee haveseen,thatHemustmakesome sureandcertainmeansbywhichwe mayknowwhatthoseconditionsare. 1.ThatmembersoftheCouncil residingindifferentdistrictsofthe metropolis,endeavourtogetthe medicalofficerofhealthorsome othermedicalmanintheirneighbourhood,totalkoverhealthmatterswiththewomenofthatdistrizt, whocouldbegottogethertolisten torecommendationsandadviceupon mattersofhealthanddoiresticconcern.Ifthisisnotfeasible,then meetingscouldhearrangedcentrally, tobeaddressedbymembersoflbe medicalProfessionfromtimeto tim2.e.Toencouragemotherstofoster theeffortsmadebytheEducation Departmentinteachinggirlscooking andotherdomesticduties,soasto encourageatasteforassistancein thehomesratherthanlookingfor occupationinfactories,shopsand offices.Iwoulddrawtheattention ofmistressestothefactthatpro- visionmustbemadeforthecomfortoftheirdomestichelps.This mustbeconsideredasimportant,as thesecuringoftheirowncomfort.
3.Effortsshouldhedirectedtowardsinfluencingmunicipalitiesin obtainingwomenoftact,intelligence, andspecialknowledgeashealthvisitorsandinspectors.(Thissystem isinvogue,withexcellentresults, bothinEngland,anditsomeParts ofAustralasia,i.e.,Sydney).These womencouldmakeinquiriesasto theactionofparentsinhavingdefectsdisclosedbythemedicalexaminationoftheirchildrenwhilstet school,remedied.
4.Themembersofthisbranch shouldmaintainahighidealofhome lifeintheirownfamilies,andtryto influenceothersinthesamedirection.Thisnaturallyembracesthe sacreddutyofmaternity,andwoman'sobligationstotheState,in whichshelives.Anypersonneglectingthisdutyisatraitortothe magnificeneheritagebequeathedto herbycenturiesofstrenuouslifeand self-denialinestablishinganation, ofwhichshenowformsacomponent part.
5.Theinfluenceofwomenshould hedirectedtowardsthepurifoingof literature,plays,andspectacularexhibitions.Allofthesearefostering thelowerinstinctsofhumanity.
6.Thecareofthepoorerclasses
duringtheirconfinements-thesecuringofattendanceofsealednurses. Thismaybeimpressedupon '-he wivesoflegislators,'whoshouldbring theirinfluencetobearupontheirhusbands.Inthesamedirection,legislatorsshouldhaveimpresseduron themthenecessityformakingouch provisionforthesecrettreatmentof certaindiseases,andthuspreventthe unfortunateandunwaryfromwastingtheirmoneyandvaluabletime.
