Theceremonywasperformedby Rev.ArchdeaconSmyth,numerous friendsofthehridebeingpresent.

Thebride,(whoisawell-known ChildofMary,attachedtotheCathedralParish,andalsoamember ofSacredHeartSodality,andAltar Society),wasgivenawaybyMr. Maloney, andlookedcharmingly gracefulinagownofivorycharmeusesatindaintilytrimmedwith silverlace.Theusualwreathand veilwereworn,andalovelyshower bouquetwascarried.MissHolloway andMissFanniePerkinwerebridesmaids,theformerwearingapretty frockofcreamvoile,andthelatter adaintilyworkedIndianmuslin. Mr.Douglasactedasbestman.Aftertheceremonythebridalparty drovetotheresidenceofMrs.Lloyd wheretheweddingteawasheldand theusualtoastshonoured.

Thebridegroom'spresenttothe brideweresilver-backedbrushesand combincase,andthebride'spresenttobridegroom,goldsleevelinks. Thebridewastherecipientofmany valuableandusefulpresents.

Inthecourseofanableandtrenchantpaperentitled,"AreCatholics SocialleInferiortoProtestants?" readbeforetheConferenceof the CatholicTruthSocietyheldinDublinrecently,Mr.ShaneLesliesaid thatalthoughitwasatonetime heldinEuropethatonlyaCatholic couldheinanysensearespectable memberofsoeaty,itwasreserved for,Irelandtoacceptasafactthat norespectablememberofSociety, wildalsobea'Catholic.Itwas nothisintentientodiscussthehistoricaliresteryattachedtothefact. thatauniversalLawshouldhave beenreversedinIreland,exceptto satthatIreland'sdestinyappeared tohetereverselaws.Thefeeble andabnormalpositionofCatholics inIrelandwasduetepastlegislativesystem.Unfortunatelytheeffectoflawslongcontinued,even afterthelawsthemselveshadbeen abolished.Mr.Lesliewentonto contrastthesturdinessofthepeasentrewiththetimorousnessofa certainsectionofCatholicswhowere fonderofbeingcalledsocietythan Catholic,andohoalwaysnretended nottobeIrishinthefirmhopethat theywouldnothemista'anforCatholicsdaringtheseason,or,asit sadbeenwellput,whoworldgive everythineexcePttheirsoulstohave be-nProtestant.Thesepeoplehad beenaperpetualhindermenttothe realisationofthecompositesociety,

holdingthemdelightfullyinterested fromstarttofinishoftheprogrammeofreadingshehadselected, Hisaudiencewasnocommonone, itincludedaconsiderablenumberof distinguishedpersons.ThePhilharmonicHall,ofLiverpoolwascrowdedfromdoortoPlatform. The "readings"weregiveninaidofFatherBerry'sHomes.OnhisappearanceuponthePlatform,thedistinguishedJesuitreceivedatremendousovationfromthegreataudience.ALiverpoolExchangesays:FatherVaughan'sreadingsincluded selectionsfromShakespeare,Aytoun,Hood,Longfellow,Arnold, Browning,Tennyson,andWillis,and weregiveninafashionwhichproclaimedhimtoheapastmasterof theelocutionaryart.FatherVaughanasapreacherisgreatasa reader-aninterpreterofothermen's thoughtgarbedintheexaltedlanguageofPoetry-heisequallygreat, though,necessarily,inasubdued sense.Therewereattimeswhenthe famousJesuitrosetogreatheights neverfailingtocarryhisaudience withhim.FatherVaughan'srenderingoftwoconclusingshortpieces ofwhichoneshrewd,ysuspectedhim tobetheauthor,wasparticularly, fine,andquitecaptivatedhishearers.Attheconclusionofhisreadings,respondingtoavoteofthanks FatherVaughansaidthathefeltespeciallygratefultothoseofhisseparatedbrethrenwhowerepresentbecausethepapershaddonetheirbest tomakeoutthathehadnofriend], wordsexceptforthemembersof.his ownreligion.

Mr.T.O'Donohuereportedvarious mattersinconnectionwiththeExecutiveCouncil.Henotifiedmembers thatspecialconcessionticketswere nowavailableforsocietymembers only,forthemoonlightexcursions, nowbeingrunbytheCouncil.These ticketscostingonlyl/3,entitledthe holdertotwotripsontheZephyr. Anotheradvantageaccruingfrom membershipintheSocietyisthe participationinthenewscheme,of "gifts"tothesellerofsomany tic':ets.Itisanticipatedthatthese ventureswillProveverysuccessful. Priortoproceedingtospecialbusiness,"ElocutionNight,"members wereremindedoftheExcursion onthe23rdinst.,whenanillumriatedviewofAustralianDestroyers

Hishumourous piece"SpringOnion"wasthecause ofmuchamusement.Thisterminatedamostpleasantevening. The SpecialBusinessnextmeetingisParliamentaryElections.Asthereare manybuddingpoliticiansintheSociety,itisconfidentlyexpected,that somerealfightingspeecheswillbe made.

Theusualweeklymeetingofthis SocietywasheldintheCatholic ('lubRoomsonthe22ndinst.
