About3a.m.,thefollowingmornin,feelingunwellhesentforhis SpiritualDirectorwhoadministered tohimtheLastSacraments.He diedbeforemedicalassistancearrived.Thecauseofdeathwasheart failure.FatherGatelywasanativeofRosconimon,andwasinhis 64thyeer.Hisetudiesforthe PriesthoodwasmadeatSt.Patrick'sCollege,Maynouth,wherehe wasofdainedasecularpriest.Subsequently,however,hejoinedthe SocietyofJesus.ARequiemMass wascelebratedforthereposeofthe deceased'ssoulonthe8thinst,at St.IgnatiusChurch,Richmond.The finala'solution....asgivenbyHis Grace,theArchbishop.

officialreception.Wedonotknow whetherhewasthereofficiallyor not,buthisnameappearedinthe Press,includingthe"DailyHerald" followedby"TradesandLabour Council,"inbrackets.Inviewof thesefacts,Catholicscannotbe 1.1amedforregardingthisapparent connectionbetweenasectionofLabourandrationalismwithsuspicion 'Ihedefunct"Toscin,"ofMelliourne, wasnotedforitsblasphemousexpressionsagainstreligion,andthe Policyofitssuccessor,the"Labour Call,"seemsto'bethatofhaving aflingatreligiononeverypossible occasion.

DuringtheMission Masseswerecelebrateddailyat 7 and9o'clockbytheItev.Father Murray.andFatherScanlon,andat thelatterMassFatherMurraygave adailyinstructionontheHoly Sacrificetothechildrenandthose attending,andtherewasalwaysa largoattendanceofthechildrenat the9o'cloCcMasstolistentothe instructionthatwasspeciallyintendedforthem.Itwasindeed'a Pleasingfeaturesalsotoseethe largecongregationsthatfilledthe Churcheacheveningtotakepartin thedevotions,whichconsistedofthe Rosary,MissionSermon,andBenedictionoftheBlessedSacrament.On thelistinst.theclosingservicesof theMissionwasenteredon,Masses beingcelebratedat7.30andto o'clock.FatherMurrayinhismorningsermontookashistext"He wasintheworld,andtheworldwas madebyHim,andtheworldknew Himnot.HecameuntoHisown, andHisownreceivedWmnot."In dealingwiththe'infiniteloveofOur DivineRedeemer,FatherMurraydeliveredavery'fineorationandone thatappealedtoallhearts,He gaveinhissermonmanybeautiful illustrationsofthewonderfullove 1GodhasforallHiscreaturesand exhortedhishearerstostrivetoretarnGod'sgreat'lovebyfitquentiinatheHolyMassandSacraments. Thetextforhiseveningandfinal sermonwas"BethrufaithfuluntodeathandIwillgivetheethe

crownoflife."Asafittingclose tososuccessfulaMission,itwas onlymeetthatheshould,byoneof themoststrikingsermonsofthe series,exhortandentreatallto remembertheMission,andtoalwayshave,recoursetoGodbypranenIt,wasasermonsofull of sympathyandlovethatitindeed wonforhimaplaceinallour hearts. Hepointedoutbymany examplesthemostwonderfultpower ofprayerandatthesametimethe absolutenecessityofit.Heagain finallyexhortedthemalltofrequent theSacraments,andtohearthe HolyMass,wheneverpossible.He concludedbythankingeveryonewho hadinanywayassistedtomake theMissionsosuccessfulandalso speciallythankedthemembersof therecently'establishedchoirforassistingastheydidwiththemusicalportionoftheservicesevery eveningandatthe'Massonboth SundaysoftheMission,theMass usedbythechoirforbothoccasions beingConconesMassfortwo-voices. FatherMurray,inconcludingasked GodtoblessthePeopleandrequestedthattheywouldprayforhim, whileheonhispartwouldnever forgetthem. Hethengavethe Papalblessing,afterwhichtheMissionendedwiththeBenedictionof theBlessedSacrament.

LatenewsfromRomestatedthe PontificaltribunaloftheRota hasrenderedadecisioninthefamouscaseofthePrincessRospigliosi formerlyMaryJenningsReid,of Washington,whoafterherdivorce fromherfirsthusband,Mr.Parkhurst,ofBangor,Me.,marriedthe Princecivilly.ThePapaltribunal hasdecidedthathermarriageto Mr.Parkhurstwasvalid,andhence hersecondmarriage,toPrinceRoe ph-nod,isnullandvoid. ThiscasehasbeenbeforethePapaltribunalsforseveralyears.The

PrincesswasborninNewOrleans, in1870.Whenquiteyoungshewent toWashington,whereshemetMr. Parkhurstwhodiorcedherand kepttheirtwochildren.Shewent toRomewhereshemetPrinceRosVO pigliosi,theheadofafamousCatholichousewhichgoestackto 1330,andtheybecameengaged.The PrinceandPrincessarebothCatholicsandwereanxioustobemarriedbyareligiousceremony.

ThePapalauthoritiesrefusedthe applicationofareligiousceremony., andthecoupleweremarriedcivilly' atthePrince'schateauinLamporecchioonSeptember2,1901.

Thecouplethenbegantotryt haveareligiousceremonyperformed..Theyappliedtothe,Vaticanfor suchaceremonyonthegroundthat Mr.Parkhurst,thefirsthusbandof thePrincess,wasanunbaptisedperson,andtherefore,underthelaws oftheCatholicChurchthemarriagewasinvalid,particularlyasno dispensationhadbeengranted.The PropagandadecidedagainsttheapplicationtonullifytheParkhurst marriage.

ThePrinceandPrincesscontinued theirfightandappealedtoCardinal Martinelli,thenPapalDelegateto theUnitedStates.Athisrequest thePope,afterlonghesitation,fnallyagreedtoreopenthecaseand referredittothehighcourtofthe RomanRota.

Itisnowfinallydisposedofand oncemoreillustratestheconsistencyoftheChurch'spositiononthe divorcequestion.PrinceRospigliosiisamemberofoneoftheoldest CatholicfamileeinItalyandone heretoforenot...,,foritsstrongsup Portandgenerousloyalty'tothe HolySee.Inspiteofthis,however,theRomantribunalcouldnot decideonhiscaseotherwisethanon thatofthehumblestpetitioner.
