This Boundedsomuchthemorelikely sinceadeepvalleyrunsoffoutfrom Saarbruckeninthedirectiontowards SpicherenandForbachthoughthis thehighroadinpartstretchesaway againstthistheeminencesupon whichtheSaarMeeenexercise groundlies,andbeyondthepartiallywoodedheightsofSpicheren.in placessinkdowninsteepbluffsand formakindofnaturalfortress,that initselfwouldcertainlybenighimpregnable,butwhichtheFrenchusedinthemostjudiciousmanneremplyingeveryadvantageoftheground formation,andsoithadbeenfortifiedwithride-pits,batteries,and soforth.When,therefore,thecalvartdivisionRheinhabenatmidday justat12o'clockpassedthetown, andthetwosvadronswhichcomposedthevanmovedforwardonthe abovementionedroad,theyweremet withaheavyfirefromtheSpicheren heightsassoonastheybecamevisibleovertheridgeoftheplateauuponwhichtheexercisegroundlies. ThefirstthingthattheCatholic Churchbroughthometohersubjects wasthatmanhadasoulandthat hemustsaveit.Rationalismand political-economy,couldneversatisfythelongingsofthehumanheart.
