Weoftenwonderthatinacountry suchasWesternAustraliais,which canboastofsomanyexemplaryCatholicfamilies,andsomanyadmirablemenandwomen-thereareso fewreligiousvocations.Itmustbe admittedthatamongyoung thereisfoundadecentproportionaspiringtothereligiouslife,butwhen oneasksorseeksforvocationstothe priesthood-regularorcontemplative, theyarefewandseldomindeed.Yet thevocationtothepriesthoodisa specialcalling.-aparticularmarkof God'spredilection,bywhichHecalls andsotsasidecertainmentocooperateinaccomplishingthepurposeforwhichOurLordcame amongthesonsofmen.Itisa greatgift,andnoteveryoneis givenit.Somecompareitto a seedthatiscastintotheground, whichdependsUponthecircumstances oftimeandPlaceandevenperson foritsultimatefructification.The seedofadivinevocationissownin thehumanheartbythehandofthe Creator,and itrequires intelligentcareandassiduouslabour tomakeitgrowand;rectify.
