Animportantaddresswasrecently deliveredbyMr.T.M.Kettle,M.P. recentlyonovertaxationofIrelani, undertheauspicesoftheYoungleelandBranchoftheUnitedIrishLeague.Inthecourseofhisremarks hesaiditwaswhenthey,cameto expenditurethattheybegantoreany understandthequestion.Whata HomeRuleParliamentwoulddo withinthefirstfiveorsixyears wouldbetoreduceforinstance,thebybothhavebeenfulfilledby,oneor costofthepolicesystemtosome-theotherofthe"greatEnglishparthinglikethatoftheScotchstan-ties." dard.Onemillionandahalfwas aridiculousexpenditureuponthe policeserviceofIreland.TheessentialpartoftheNationalistrise wasthattheywantedaredistributionofexpenseupontheIrishservice. Nol45eralelectioninGreat Britainwhonoceesseshissensesand anaverageshareofIntelligencecan haveassumedthattheNationalists aresatisfiedwiththeGovernment's Irishpolicy.Wetrust,everyLlbered knowsfullwellthattheIrishN:it ionalistattitudeisoneofperpetual endemphaticpretestseainsttheessumptionthatanyBritishGovemment'spolicycansatisfythepeople ofthiscountrywhiletheirrightto governthemselvesiswithheld.The IrishTimes"cordiallyagreeswith Mr.Kettle'sprotestagainsttheidea ofincreasingIrishtaxationonaccountofOldAgePensions.Butif suchaproposalismadebythe Government.the"Tris,iTimes"will findsomeotherassumptionanwhich tobaseadisagreementwithany, resistanceofferedbytheIrishParty.
