Thedeputationwasintroducedby Xi.P.J.O'Neill,J.P.,chairmanof theGeneralCounciloftheIrish CountyCouncils.

Mr.Birrell,inreply.saidthetime hadcomewhenallpublicbodiesand allright-thinkingEnglishmenandwomenmustdoallintheirpowerto combatConsumption,and,ifpossible, intimetodestroyit.Howwasthat tobedone?LeavingtAiequestionof moneyoutofconsiderationforamoment,justatthepresent,timethe exertionsoftheCountyCouncilsGeneralCouncilandtheactionofthe doctorsinIrelandandotherpartsof theworldhadcalledpublicattention toit,anditwouldnotbewiseto assumetheyhadsufficientlyeducated publicfeelinginthiscountryuponthe subjecttonailwithitinqiuiteas strongamanneraspeopleproposed.

Continuing,M.r,Birrellpaiditwas contemplatedtomakeprovisionfor lossasfollows:-Whiteallhey(BelCorkCounty,72;DublinCounty,70 CorkCounty,72;DublinCounty,75.

Theproblemwashowbesttoputup acheapbutasufficientformofsanatoriathroughoutIrelandforthepurposesofdealingwiththediseasein itsearliersteges.TherewereinIrelandaconsiderablenumberofworkhousesoccupyinghealthyandisolated sites,whichwouldhesuitable,notof courseasbuildings,butassites.He proposedtosuggest,thattheLocal GovernmentBoardshouldfindout howmanyworkhousestherewerein Irelandnolongerneededforthepurposesofworkhouses,whichmightbe uscelasthesitesforsanatoria.They hadalsotoprovidehospitalaccommodationforthosewhowerecono pleten.itsvictims.Withregardto Oldigationsuponmedicalpractitioners ablethatthereshouldbestatutory oblivationsuponmedicalpractitioners ofnotifyingtheexistenceofpulmonryeemsumption.The(ducational processshouldIssetironerastohow peoplesufferingfromthisdeadlycomplaintshouldbetreated. Allthepartyof37dulymetatCadiz andalsometthefirstdisappointment.Themarineauthoritieswould notallowtheirship,the"JohnPanther,"tosailuntilshehadunder-
