Iaregoingtoaddressmyselftoawider argumentthananyfoundedonsuch proceasesasthese.Thewholeworld knowsthattherearetwobooksin existence,onecalledtheOldTestament, theothercalledtheNewTestament. Beforeconcluding,Ialsonowrecallthat thedustofaworthypriest,mypaternal granduncle,islaidinaSpanishtomb,at Madridwhilethatofhissister,asaintly nun,andformerlyAbbeysoftheConventof CorpoSantoatLisbon,restswhereold TagusmingleshiewaterswiththeAtlantic billows.Ibelievethatmostoftheold CatholicfamiliesofIrelandcouldfind tumularinscriptionsinthechurchyardsof theSpanishPeninsularecordingthelast resting-placeofoneorotheroftheirexiled members,inthecourseofthreecenturies past,likethefollowingengravenona monumentintheCollegiateChurchofSt. SecuehirusatAlcala,bydirectionofthe BishopofGrenada,justthreehundred yearsago"HereliethWilliamWalsh,a CistercianMonk,andBishopofMeath,who, afterthirteenyearsimprisonment(in DublinCattle)andmanysufferingsforthe Catholic,faith,atlastdiedinexileat "Alcala,onthedaybeforethenonesof January,1577."Thisvenerableprelatewas ascionofthenoble,raceoftheCountsWalsh DeFerrers-whosechateauIsaw,duringa tourin1855intheValleyoftheSoire, France.
