HRYDEN INVITE TO POPE
VATICAN CITY (NC) - The Australian G overnment has invited Pope John Paul II to visit Australia. Australian Prime Minister Mr Hawke issued the invitation in a letter Foreign Minister Mr Hayden delivered it personally when he met the pope at the Vatican to disc uss international issues.
Officials of the Australian Embassy in Italy said that no specific date for a visit has been discussed. At a press confer ence following his meeting with the pope, Mr Hayden reported that the pope had said that he would visit Australia at "the first opportunity that is convenient."
