The first members of the party leave on Saturday morning (December 20) to grapple with the Nullarbor in Tony Mapson's mini-bus. The remaining members are travelling by ' Ansett, and will leave on Christmas Eve.
Disappointing _ An association spokesman said that the Sydney correspondent had reported that a disappointing 80 to 90 visitors would be attending .Australian Catholic tennis's premier event. This was in contrast to the 130 plus who enjoyed Perth's successful carnival last Christmas. The prevailing economic conditions had dampened the enthusiasm of marr,, potential interstate visitors. and the belated adverlisinfy, material had coniributed to the smaller number attending from all Slates.
WOMEN'S BID FOR SHIELD The W.A. carnival organiser considered that earlier details from Sydney would have helped to increase the size of W.A.'s contingent. Western Australia will be represented by a strong women's team in the quest for the Archbishop Duhig Shield. The team members are: I. Helen Wilkes, 2. Maree Messer, 3. Mandy Bourke, 4.
