Dr. Dooley said that there was not a major country in the world today where natural family planning was not being seriously studied. Recently he had attended the launching of an evaluation programme in America, funded by the Government, and in Australia the Government had provided $41,000 for a programme of evaluation that was being conducted in centres throughout Australia. The purpose of the evaluation was to study the efficiency with which natural family planning was being taught and to see how it worked in conjunction with the other psychological and sociological factors in a person's make-up.

In April, the Bishops inquired about what functions a girl or woman can perform at the altar in addition to lector and extraordinary minister of the Eucharist.
DUBLIN, (NC) — Cardinal William Conway of Armagh (62), president of the Irish Bishops' Conference, is suffering from cardiac strain and has been ordered to rest.
Girls have functioned as servers at Mass in several parishes in the United States, in some cases, however, in capacities different from those to altar boys.
The cardinal's doctors have advised him to cancel all engagements for six weeks. He is not confined to bed, but is resting at home. The cardinal's condition was said to be not serious and that the rest was merely "a precautionary measure."

ed to tax the capacity of the cathedral for the occasion. Brother D. McMahon, headmaster of the junior school, who is organising the special liturgical celebration, said that his experience in several schools in recent years had confirmed his impression that a lot of students were not experiencing the practice of family prayer in the home. Also, he said, students knew nothing of their cathedral church or understood its significance and decor. Another rare experience in their young lives, he added, was to see and take part in the rich ceremonial of the eucharist celebrated solemnly by a bishop for the people of a diocese. The forthcoming celebration in the cathedral was intended to fill this gap, not only in the lives of the boys themselves, but also to set the pattern for strong family participation in family prayer, especially Sunday Mass which some parents and boys were now neglecting. he said.

The 94 years of 'Nana Larsen, of Kojonup Mrs. Amy Larsen, prominent in the Catholic and general life in district, died on Saturday, September 6, the eve of her Kojonup the birthday. 4th 9 "Nana" Larsen, as she was generally known, was one of the twelve children of John and Mary Grover, of Kulikup and Dinninup. Apart from a few y ears in Perth, she spent her life living and working in or close to these areas. Her paternal grandparents came from England in the early 1800's and her maternal grandparents from Scotland in 1854. She knew Father Frederick Chmelicek, first parish priest of Kojonup, so Nana was indeed a pioneer in every way. As Amy Grover, she married Harry Larsen in 1907, at the old hall near the Old Barracks, Kojonup. The Larsens were pioneers of the nearby Muradup district. Indicative of the times. Nana Larsen spent her honeymoon, and it was in December, helping to pull wire for a fence. One of the most unusual of wedding presents came from her maternal uncle, William Scitt. It was a huge pumpkin and when she cut it there was a gold sover. , a large gift in those ei m days. A big meeting to discuss putting the railway through the district took place soon after her marriage.
