New Norcia Abbey Church will be the goal of the Good Friday pilgrimage. People from Moora parish will travel down to Keaney College, Bindoon to follow the Way of the Cross out-of-doors, beginning at 11.30 a.m.. and after lunch they will move to New Norcia for Good Friday liturgy and pilgrimage prayers. Father J. P. O'Brien, the parish priest of Moora said that he would be glad to see any country or even city people joining in the Good Friday pilgrimage.

Brother Valentine, S.A.C., had a large crowd of friends and well-wishers at a special Mass last Sunday in Queen of Apostles' Church, Riverton to help him celebrate the 50th anniversary of his Religious Profession. Brother Valentine was born in Germany and came to Australia in 1932 and has spent time in Tardun, Melbourne, Wandering and Sydney. Priest who drove cattle over a high mountain
The final 16 pages of the 103-page book contain an appendix of useful reflections and advice to teachers that Monsignor McMahon has consistently given over his long career of writing books on the Mass.
PORT MORESBY (NC). — A French missionary priest who once drove a herd of cattle over a 10,000-foot mountain range in Papua, was killed in the recent air crash at Kanabea in Papua.

The priest was Father Jean Besson (50), of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. The aircraft undershot the runway as it came in to land. The pilot, Warren Smith ( 23), survived. The aircraft was carrying two head of cattle that Father Besson was taking to a new mission station he was establishing in the Swanson Valley. Father Besson came from Aix-les-Bains, France. After a year on leave in France he was assigned by Bishop Eugene Klein to Kainteba, the home of the much-feared Kukukuku people. Father Besson was instrumental in opening up this area of the Kukukuku tribes. To develop the area and to improve the living standards of the isolated and primitive people, he began building airstrips and introduced cattle-raising to the area. Before the airstrips were built the cattle had to be taken in by land. In 1966 Father Besson, with a herd of cattle and five native boys, set out from Keare and crossed the I0,000-foot central ranges to Wau. From there they went to Bema, arriving three weeks later. The party carried all its own food and constructed tracks and bridges as they went. Since then, airstrips have been built and cattle can be airlifted to the various mission stations. During his time in Papua, Father Besson established numerous mission stations within two hours walk of each other. He was one of only two priests who have learned the Kukukuku language, and at the t jrne of his death Father Besson and Father Paul Marx were translating the Bible and other prayers into the Kukukuku language.

LONDON. — Lord Hailsham has introduced a Bill into the House of Lords fhich should open the way to the possibility of a Catholic becoming Lord Chancellor. Lord Hailsham is on record as saying that he sees no legal objection, but since that is only a personal view he feels the matter should be put beyond doubt. One problem has been that a Catholic could not eccleciastical exercise patronage, but an Order in Council could pass the patronage on to someone else if a Catholic were Chancellor. The old oath required, which meant repudiating certain Catholic doctrines, has been changed already. When Lord Hailsham was Lord Chancellor he researched the subject and found that one of his predecessors in office, Lord Haldane, had once investigated for a client and along with three other counsel had concluded that there was no bar to becoming Catholic a Chancellor.

WASHINGTON (NC). — Churchmen in Kenya and other African countries did not think that withdrawal of investments from countries with white minority regimes in southern Africa, was a solution for the plight of the blacks in those countries, a Kenyan cardinal said here. Cardinal Maurice Otunga of Nairobi, Kenya, did, however, say that those countries that could bring influence to bear on South Africa, Rhodesia and the Portuguese African territories should do so. "But there is no question," he said, "of saying, 'You pull out'." This view contrasted with the Kenyan Government's call last year, in union with other African countries, for sanctions against the United States and other Western countries unless they end co-operation with the southern African regimes. Recently, Protestant and Catholic churchmen in the United States called on the European-American Banking Corporation in New York to cancel loans to South Africa. "There must be mutual understanding" in order to solve the problems of Southern Africa, the cardinal said, adding that "black people there should not seek revenge for the past."
