Nearly ninety people attended last Tuesday nights special meeting of the Catholic Nurses Guild devoted to the subject of nursing responsibility and decision making about the life of a patient. Thirty of those attending were Religious Sisters representing St. John of God, St. Anne's and St. Vincent's Hospitals. Others included many student nurses, plus a strong representation of more senior nursing staff who are more directly concerned with responsibility for decisionmaking in these subjects. The meeting opened with short addresses by three panel members for the evening, Mr. Peter Thompson, a cardiologist, Father Ronan Kilgannon, 0.F.M., and Sister Audrey Martins. Later, the audience broke into ten discussion groups for 45 minutes out of the three-hour meeting. There were no specific urgent problems that came to light but most questions suggested that almost every case represented an individual decision to be made and also involved a complex relationshin of persons responsible for making what on decisions course of action to
