In a note that preceded the prayer, the newspaper said that it was "proposed for al l the faithful and al l communities as well as for individual and community recitation". The prayer is: Lord God and Father, in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ Your Son you willed to reconcile al l mankind to yourself and so to reconcile man with each other in peace. Hear the prayer of your people in this year of grace and salvation (Response: See instruction note at end of prayer). Let your Spirit of life and holiness renew us, in the depths of our being; unite us throughout our life to the risen Christ; for He is our brother and Saviour. ( Response). With all Christians we seek to follow the way of the Gospel. Keep us faithful to the teaching of the Church and alive to the needs of our brothers. Give us strength to work for reconciliation, unity and peace. (Response). May those who seek the God they do not yet know discover in you the source of light and hope: may those who work for others find strength in you: may those who know you seek even further and experience the depths of your love. (Response). Forgive us our sins, deepen our faith, kindle our hope, and enliven our hearts with love for our brothers. May we walk in the footsteps of Christ a s your beloved sons, and daughters. (Response). With the help of Mary, our Mother, may your Church be the sign and sacrament of salvation for al l men; that the world may believe in your love and your truth. (Response). Father, of your great goodness, hear in the words of your people the prayer of the Spirit to the praise of your glory and the salvation of men. Through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, the Way, the Truth and the Life, for ever and ever. (Response). Amen. NOTE: In the private prayer the response after each invocation is omitted and the final prayer is completely omitted. Instead of the final prayer, the simple conclusion: Through Christ our Lord. Amen, is used. In prayer with a group or community, the normal invocations could be used for the people's response; for example: V. Lord, in your mercy; R. Hear our prayer; or: V. Lord, hear us; R. Lord, graciously hear us; or: V. Lord, have mercy; R. Lord, have mercy.

Zeffirelli's film is not a biography in the strict sense. but rather an audiovisual impression of the conversion and early outlook of the saint. Those who expect to see a conventional 'Life' of the saint will be disappointed. The presentation is in the style of a medieval folklegend, in the tradition of the early and flamboyant "Little Flowers of St. Francis". It is an attempt to present something of the romance and poetry of St. and Francis, his spirit ideals, rather than his history.
