The Easter pilgrimage to New Norcia and holy places en route will ask the traditional two things of a pilgrim from the days of Chaucer onwards: a joyful Christian heart and sound protection against all the physical elements and hardships on the way, namely their own food and accommodation. Any pilgrim of any age is welcome to join in any Dart of the twoday journey; the less hardy may care to go to New Norcia just for the Monday outing. The programme is as follows: SUNDAY 6.30 a.m. The hardy ones will gather at the Redemptorist Church, North Perth, for an openair service conducted by Father P. Ryan, C.SS.R. who will be accompanying the pilgrimage. It should be noted that only limited parking space is available within the monastry grounds. (Easter Sunday Masses at the Monastery: 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.). The next stop is at St. Brigid's Church, Midland, for another short service at approximately 8 a.m. (Easter Sunday Masses at Midland: 7 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. Mass at Herne Hill on Great Northern Highway at 8 a.m.). A leisurely drive to Bindoon is the next leg of the journey, aiming to arrive at approximately 11.30 a.m. A feature of the stop at Keaney College will be the Way of the Cross conducted by Father Peter Ryan, C.SS.R. at the outdoor Stations on the road into the College. Lunch can be followed by resting, a trek to the hill of Christ the King or other strolls in the vicinity. Pilgrims will then make the final 20-mile stage to New Norcia in time to establish themselves and be ready f or the solemn Pontifical Vespers at 5 p.m. ( Note: there is no evening Mass at New Norcia). The highlight of Sunday evening will be a presentation at 7.30 in the New Norcia Pro -Cathedral of a programme of songs, verse, readings and drama by five players under the direction of David Crann. ACCOMMODATION: The hotel is booked out. Father Prior of New Norcia advises that there is room for 30 men and 20 women in the St. Mary's House. Mattresses are available but sheets and blankets will have to be brought. The football oval area will be available for caravans or campers. PROVISIONS: The organisers stress that pilgrims will have to attend to providing all their own food and refreshments during the two days. A special feature of next week's issue of The Record will be the lift-out pages containing the full Sunday and Saturday Vigil Mass times for the dioceses of Perth and Bunbury and the Abbey Nullius of New Norcia. Experience shows that many people are often looking for this information but are unaware of this important local coverage that appears from time to time in The Record. The clergy harassed by phone calls inquiring about Mass in far-off centres, wil l be anxious to tell the people of the existence of this precious reference sheet. I t is hoped that parishes wil l be looking after the interests of their parishioners and have ample copies of The Record on sale as well as alerting the people to its contents. Reports still reach this office of parishes where there are no copies of The Record available, especially at the later Masses in the day. This is a disservice to the people. Nobody has to buy The Record, but, equally, nobody can buy it if it is not available. A sell out of The Record is only a partial success. Every potential customer who misses out is deprived of the opportunity of keeping up with the local and overseas Church news. Orders to increase Record sales can be placed simply by telephoning our receptionist on 25 9088. For next week's issue orders can be placed on Tuesday, April 24, or on Thursday, April 26 (before 9.30 a.m.) A few unsold copies at the end of each Sunday is the best test that The Record is be. ing given maximum exposure to those who want to obtain it. Copies remaining do not have to be return. ed to this office and may be written off on the monthly invoice.
