These children • ( reading from left), Julie Bokor, Mark Kinsella, Catherine Whatley, Lyn Fitzgibbon and Joseph Coster are among the 48 students of Holy Cross School, Kensington. The majority of the school's pupils will transfer to St. Columba's South Perth, St. Pius X, Manning and Aquinas College next year as part of the reof programme organisation of schools undertaken by the W.A. Catholic CommisEducation sion. Holy Cross was originally St. Patrick's when in 1938 it opened as a small school and Mass centre to serve a growing part of the South Perth parish. Sister Attracta was the first superior when the opening enrolment was 30. It had grown to 160 when she left the school 12 years later in 1950. In 1952, two years after Kensington had become a separate parish, the name was changed to Holy Cross. Enrolments continued to increase until 1958 when the peak was reached with 207 pupils. At this time there were four Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart teaching at the school. Although for several years, numbers remained steady at about 160, from 1966, when the enrolment dropped to 122, there was a steady decrease in the number seeking enrolment. 41111111111111•11.

As the Church takes a new look at its missionary work it is becoming clear that it is the Indian who is becoming the true missionary to his own( people.

If Father Patrick Crawford, National Chaplain of the Y.C.W. in New Zealand, or some crusading Christian of his moral calibre and courage can be persuaded to spearhead the attack in this State against salacious advertising, then a good s rt will have been made. Possibly the Perth Archdiocesan Pastoral Council would be prepared to consider initiating collective Christian action to combat the moral pollution which has reached a suffocating level of corruption in our very midst. 18. A pet shop. 19. A camera shop. This strange and rare animal, the AYE-AYE is 20.A florists.

THE AYE-AYE

found only in the forests of Madagascar-an island off the east coast of Africa.

The Aye-Aye is related to the lemur. It is about the size of a cat, with a tail as long as its body. It has a coat of thick brown or black hair. The face is rounded, with large eyes and ears something like those of a mouse. The hands and feet of the Aye-Aye are like those of monkeys and apes. Man rarely sets eyes on the Aye-Aye as he is a nocturnal animal, that is, he comes out at night, hiding away in a hollow tree or in branches in the daytime. The Aye-Aye lives on fruit, insects and grubs. Only one young Aye-Aye is born each year, and it is feared that because of this, the Aye-Aye m ight die out altogether.

RIDDLES

What did the big rose say to the little rose? Hiya, bud. What's black and white and red all over? A bashful zebra. Why was the man always wiring for money? He was an electrician. What kind of top does not spin? A mountain top. * What vegetable must grow quickly? The runner bean.

Lastly take a piece of string and tie it around the neck of the puppet. Scraps of wool can be stuck on for hair, or you can make any other variations that you wish.
