The Carmelite Third Order has functioned in the Archdiocese since 1941, when it was under the direction of the late Fr. Harold Lalor and later under the Discalced Carmelite Fathers after their arrival in 1955. FORMATION Miss Rose Meriems, Mistress of Formation of the Third Order, who provided a lot of these details, is clearsighted about the nature of a Tertiary's life and purpose.

A mother of a priest feels that living close to God in prayer has helped her to understand what the priest has to do and also what she has to do for him in relation to other people. Some members are making personal contributions to the cost of educating a Carmelite priest and a diocesan priest . Another man calls the Third Order the hub of his search for perfection in life.

The Third Order of Carmel meets at the Church of the Infant Jesus Morley on the third Friday of each month at 7.30 p.m.

Some of the members are catechists. "I have been able to understand the unique prayer life of each child; I can look for the good of a child and not just its faults."

The priests act as chaplains to the patients and medical and nursing personnel in about 160 other hospitals. The Camillian Order has missions in Formosa, the Pescadores Islands, Thailand and Tanganyika. About 20 priests and 18 Brothers work on these missions, and some are in charge of leper colonies.
