LITTLE COLOUR AT KINGS PARK It would be completely unfitting and improper were West Australians to overlook the significance of the recent Tennis Matches held in such gala fashion at King's Park Tennis Club. The holding of the Federation Cup in Perth and the spectacular manner in which it was s taged reflects great credit on the organisers and enhances the prestige and influence of Australia in international circles. Not only did West Australians witness tennis of a very high standard, but their presence in such record numbers at the whole series of matches gave tennis a timely shot in the arm when it needed it in the West. Justifiable pride must stir in the hearts of all w ho witnessed the play and feminine dignity o f the Prima Donna of World Tennis, Mrs. Margaret Court. Her command of all situations and the ease and grace with which she won her matches gave West Australians a glimpse of the discipline, skill, power and determination which blended so perfectly to produce a Grand-Slam Winner. What we might consider of less importance w as the selection of Miss Evonne Goolagong, t he 19-year-old Aboriginal tennis player as second member of the Australian Federation Cup Team. This would be grossly wrong Miss Goolagong's selection may have caused some whisperings and anxious moments in some quarters, but her performance and c ourage both in the Cup matches and the Championships which followed, put all her c ritics to rout. All spectators and critics a like were thrilled by Miss Goolagong's success. Sheer skill accounted for it. What better evidence of integration could one e xpect that the sight of coloured and white c ombining so splendidly and in such friendly, skilful fashion on the Centre Court at Royal K ing's Park on World Peace Day? It is even more pleasing to know that there is a possibility of playing in South Africa next year a s part of her world tour with Margaret Court This is the type of action which will compel people to change their thinking and their a ttitudes towards distinctions of race and c olour. Racial discrimination and prejudice spring from ill adjusted attitudes and wrong perception of personal worth. Miss Goolagong has shown that she has the talent, when given the opportunity, which will enable her t o make a name and reputation in world

We hope Mrs. Court will immortalise her fame still further by completing the Grand-Slam once more. Perhaps this could well be her greatest service to the Australian nation. We applaud such challenging plans and we hope they will help create a better impression in people's minds of Australia in spite of the Government's White Australia policy.

Christian Brothers Make Perpetual Profession On Christmas Day, at Trinity College Chapel, three Christian Brothers c onsecrated themselves for life to the service of God in Christian Education by taking perpetual vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. These Brothers had received their formation in the Christian Brothers Teachers' Colleges in Melbourne and then had spent four or five years in various communities. They reassembled in Melbourne early in December for a period of preparation for profession.

In 1968 he returned to his home State, W A., where he spent one year at C.B.C., Geraldton, before being sent to C.B.H.S.. Highgate, where he has been stationed since.
