A CALL TO DEMONSTRATE

The recent articles in defence of Father Harte by Fathers Ruhan and Brophy, S.J., are understandable and in my view, to some degree commendable. The family unit may privately inflict self-criticism, but let no outsider join battle. However, neither Father Harte nor his clerical brothers appear to have any great knowledge or understanding of their subject—i.e. Vietnam. I can assure them that trade union offices are regularly supplied with expensive propaganda emanating from Hanoi, and even the most naive reader would find the position, as presented by the agents of the National Liberation Front, incompatible with factual, unbiased reporting from a variety of public media. The agents of atheistic communism have had unqualified success in subverting the democratic process to their own ends and drawing to their cause a multitude of people of goodwill unaware of the real issues involved. Shortly after Father Harte's public involvement with the Moratorium Committee, I personally had the experience at a meeting of the W.A. Trades and Labour Council of one of the most militant communist trade union officials saying to me: "Did you notice that we have one of your mob in our camp now?" That is a statement of fact. To that man it was a huge achievement. As one who abhors war and violence of all types from any direction, I believe the lesson of history is there for all to learn—that "the price of peace is eternal vigilance". I read with horror the detestable actions of the Americans at Mai Lei as I do the recent action of the North Vietnamese in attacking the orphanage at An Hoa in northern South Vietnam. The army of South Vietnam considered it was not necessary to de-

by Mindu Speck In the wake of the Westgate Bridge disaster the re was little taste for share trading, and prices began to ease late last week. London was ver y weak, but this was largely due to a Bank of England warning that the monetary strings we re to be tightened, and had little relation of Australian mining prospects.

To understand what is going on in the church of the Netherlands we briefly had to go through its history and the effects it had on the mentaliq of the Dutch Catholics.
