ALP. AND ABORTION: A TIME FOR DECISION Nothing at last week's ALP State Conference was as important as its decision on abortion law. Not content to accept an abortion law as ALP policy, the conference took two further grave steps: it required ALP members of parliament to introduce the necessary bill before parliament; and it voted to deny to Labor MP's the right to follow their consciences in voting on such a bill. Any Labor MP who votes against an abortion bill, as most of them did last year, runs the risk of expulsion from the party. Of course, it would be up to the ALP State Executive to decide whether to impose this penalty. But men like Senator Wheeldon and Mr. Chamberlain and their followers, who have already gone so far in threatening their own party's Members of Parliament, will probably not hesitate to carry out their threat —even if this means expelling several of them. They may even look forward to replacing them by other men more subservient to themselves.

There are many attitudes represented by the statement: "What do we do with our lives?" The thought behind the statement "conveys the passion and anguish of the youthful protestors in the USA." These young protestors are full of hope and confidence for the world and are protesting because they are not satisfied with the situation of The affairs as they exist today. youth of today are tired of seeing their friends and brothers trained to kill in a long drawn-out, worthless war, and sometimes returned in coffins. Thousands of young peoples' lives are sacrificed for a senseless war. As a result of this conflict "many groups of students are committed to violent radical change through means", attempting to call attention from a democratic government, but they cease to be heard. The system of radical movement works to some extent, but apparently, to the radical's ideas, not enough. The democratic government turns the radicals down and so does society. A nation has turned them down and where do they turn to from here? Demonstrations involving youthful protestors occur on an international level. Probably the most frequent demonstrations occur in the USA. Many people in the world think the US is too "violent" and violence rages everywhere in the country. But hardly any ever think of the reasons why such actions take place. For ex-

Dear Boys & Girls We all l ike to have fun. Children know a lot about fun and are able to enjoy themselves in ways that adults c annot. Imagine how you'd laugh if you saw adults playing ring-a-rosie or hide-and-seek! It is good to have fun, but sometimes chi ldren, and adults, too, try to have fun at the expense of others. You have probably seen children laugh at and tease other children who are different. For instance, the 'fat' boy or girl; the 'ugly' one; the dark one; the one who has some sort of handicap; or the one who is shy and doesn't make friends easily. This is not fun nor is it funny. It and sad. And this is where cruel is be able to apply one of should you golden rules — 'do to others as God's you would l ike them to do to you.' I f we keep this particular commandment in mind, and also the fact that God loves everyone (despite faults or colour or appearance or beliefs) , then it should be easy to avoid hurting others, and so 'have fun' in the best way possible.
