THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
Here are some Lenten thoughts for the days of this week. MONDAY is do without sweets day, and don't forget that Compassion Box and a prayer for the starving.

-
TUESDAY is no cake day. An extra piece of fruit if you're still hungry but definitely no cake!
WEDNESDAY. You can put that cordial or soft drink back in the fridge. Plain milk or water will do just as well!
THURSDAY. Say a prayer for the poor and needy as soon as you get out of bed. Divide your pocket money Of you have any) by seven and put today's allowance into the Compassion Box
FRIDAY. Don't put jam or honey on your bread. Vegemite is better for you. No lollies!
SATURDAY. Have you been fighting with your brother or sister? Say you are sorry and two cents for that box' No ice-cream today.
SUNDAY. Relax a bit and pray. Offer Mass in thanksgiving for all you were able to do during the week. Y ou can eat sweets today but don't make a pig of y ourself. Remember it's still Lent.

CRICKET Reconstruction in any sport can be a good thing. We have two Australian Test cricket sides from which we should be able to present a team to match the M.C.C. next season. The amount of vacancies that are obvious matters l ittle when you consider the formidable nature of the second side performing well in New Zealand. In football, there is an old saying: "You are a s good as your reserves." Well, this could be well applied to cricket, especially in Tests played at home where the axe can fall more readily because replacements are more accessible. Teamwork is the answer, and unless the selectors are prepared to experiment in formulating a success pattern, we could remain in the cricket doldrums. The recent cricket panel on T.V. was undoubtedly a great success. Channel 2 could have created a cricket precedent—that will lead up to "a better cricket image". The game has always contained a human interest angle, so why not let cricket fans in on it. Assuming that players and officials are not on the terms that sow the seeds of success, well there's a Test match at stake. And should the achievement of harmony be in doubt, now's the time to look for the silver lining. We want clear, not coloured glasses, for our thinking. Pennant Cricket: South Perth, West Perth, Bassendean-Bayswater and Midland-Gui ldford, are the semi-finalists to play off for the Premiership. South Perth and Bassendean-Bayswater look the logical finalists. However, cricket matches can be won or lost through so many factors, that short-priced favourites are quickly reduced to mediocrity—by the glorious uncertainty of cricket. FOOTBALL COMMENT The new rule invoking kicking out of bounds on the full—will place a great strain on players in defence. Sharp-shooting forwards, who can create their opportunities from the pockets, will be in demand. The game will benefit considerably where more skill is needed to keep t he ball in play, and negative football will be curtailed considerably. Home ground advantage. This is probably t he biggest single factor that brings teams to a reasonable level in the competition. If you cannot succeed on your battle-ground, the odds a re that you can't succeed anywhere. The new-look League administration will have public facilities and needs raised to comfort level for 1970. April will usher in what will probably be the most colourful and entertaining football season in the long history of the game. Scratch matches are appetisers, although supporters prefer to regard them as guides. However, the standard has been high so far.
It's so worthwhile
