will gather at the Floreat Forum Civic Centre on Saturday, February 12, at 7 p.m. for a dinner at which the guest of honour will be . His Eminence Joseph Cardinal Cardijn. An invitation is, of course, extended to the wives and husbands of former members. The number that can be accommodated is limited and early reservation is advisable. Already ex-members, from as far away as La Grange in the NorthWest and Bunbury in the South-West, have signified their intention of being present. NECESSARY CONDITION
0
F ALL THE BLESSINGS THAT LIFE AND HISTORY HAVE TO FOR OFFER INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND NATIONS, TRULY THE MOST PRECIOUS AND IMPORTANT IS PEACE. The existence of peace and of zeal to preserve it, is the assurance of the world's tranquillity. But a necessary condition of peace is the goodwill of each and everyone. Where this is lacking, it is vain to hope for happiness and blessing. Peace should be our objective all the time; our aim should be to create it and spread it on all possible occasions and it should be shielded from all that could harm it or compromise it. It is no good applying this to unions of families which make up the State or Commonwealth until it is applied, protected and promoted in the individual families and their near environment. True peace must radiate from this core. The announcement of "Peace on earth to men of goodwill" was the herald of this offering of supernatural aid to the achievement of this peace. This then is Christmas, Jesus Who redeems us, Who gives us glory, Who gives us peace. 'Seeing Him, omnipotent yet hkimble, infinite yet poor, the Word of God yet silent, everY man can see the salvation that comes from God and can take courage to reform his life, to render it meritorious for himself and beneficial for his fellow man. This can only be really achieved in peace. Yet it is patently obvious that peace is not prevalent in our modern world. From the spiritual failure of modern man springs his opposition to peace. It is the pride of the man of power who destroys, it is the greed of the man of wealth who hardens his heart to the needs of his brother, it is the callousness of the complacent man who pays no heed to the great cry of suffering which exists in the world, it is the selfishness of the man who thinks exclusively of himself, i In every case it is the goodness of Christ which is lacking, which above all must provide an antidote to this spirit of contradiction and hard-heartedness, paving the way to a more peaceful attitude. We, who accept the offering of Christ Himself must continue to strive to bring His li peace before all men.

HE WORLD IS BECOMING A
He Who brought Heaven's Wisdom to earth gave another Law: "Freely ye have received; freely give." This applies to practically everything in life. We are monuments of mercy, therefore we must be dispensers of mercy; we are saved by Divine Love, hence we have to be-. stow it on others without money and without price. When Joyce Kilmer went to war and there to die, he wrote: "Lord, Thou didst suffer more for me Than all the hosts of land and sea, So let me render back again This millionth of Thy gift. Amen. When the woman came into the house of Simon the Pharisee to pour her perfume upon the Feet of Our Divine Lord, He implied that she gave much because she had already received much. A proportion existed between her love and the breaking of the vessel in which she gave everything. She did not pour it out

"Most beloved sons, the Ecumenical Council will end this week. We must pray to Our Lady that it may end well and that the period which will follow it may begin well. It is a period which concerns us directly because the Council has been sowing of seed in the field of the Church and in the world, and now it is a question of good cultivation and of fructifying the seed which has been sown. "All of us will want to gain the best possible knowledge of the conciliar dispositions r eferring to each one of us. He is in each of them. There is no record that He would help those who gave millions to those who already had millions. The startling pedestrian fact is that Christ is in the rich only when they are virtuous, but He is in the poor simply because they are poor. Dives will always be the symbol of the man who had much, refusing to aid the man who had nothing. It is quite possible that Dives might have written out very large cheques to great philanthropies, but he refused to turn his wealth into a sacrament of friendship and brotherliness by sharing his life with the poor. The ultimate question every individual must face is whether he can be brought out of that narrow and dark circle of egotism and self-centredness into the thrilling joy of love and service. Every increase of wealth and every gift in life is always something of a crisis, the history of a soul. If it does not result in the open hand, it is apt to turn out the light in the soul. For this reason Our Lord spoke of the rich man as being tormented; he had missed the supreme opportunity of his life, having been in the presence of the final sanctities of love for the poor, and having trampled them underfood. Loveless men must be tormented for God is Love; and because He is Love He has made men one for another. He who shuts out love shall be shut out from Love; he who gives love, will find it.

THIRTY DAY
ROUND TRIP TO HONG KONG OCT. /NOV. 1966 OST people have heard and read something of the labours of selfless missionaries in different parts of the world. Their interest has been aroused by the presence in increasing numbers of lay people who have volunteered to help in the missions for limited periods of time. Miss Annette Sutton, of Alderbury Street, Floreat Park, will be leaving on January 2 for New Guinea to become a lay missionary. She is going to the Franciscan Mission Station at Aitape. on the extreme north coast of New Guinea. "My interest in the missions," said Miss Sutton, "goes back over a number of year,. After reading and hearing about missionary work, I became very interested, and now I have decided that I would like to do something to help." A schoolteacher, Miss Sutton is at present the first mistress at the Wembley Primary State School. She spent her early childhood days at Pinjarra, where her parents were farming. She attended St. Joseph's Convent until her Junior year, and then attended Santa Maria College as a boarder for two years. During her last year at Santa Maria she was head girl. She then attended Teachers' Training College. It was a very pleasant surprise when her first posting as a teacher was to her home town of Pinjarra. She has since taught at Geraldton, Mandurah and lastly Wembley Downs. About four years ago, Miss Sutton's parents moved from Pinjarra to a property along the old Coast Road, Mandurah. When her father passed away last year, it was then the family decided to move to Perth. When Miss Sutton arrives at Aitape about the middle of January, she will attend a refresher course at the Mission Station. "I will be teaching the native children," she said. "I don't know yet what their ages will be. I have made this decision after a lot of thought. One cannot just suddenly decide to go. It needs a lot of preparation." She will be away for two years. Having learned the violin, Miss Sutton is interested in music. She also plays the harmonica and the accordion, all just for her own amusement. She also likes to read and is interested in sport generally. One could imagine no more valuable contribution to the problems of New Guinea than the work being done by the lay missionaries. Everyone, I am sure, will wish Miss Annette Sutton every success in the very important and worthwhile work which she is about to undertake.

How To Build Your Fence
WISE HOME-OWNERS long ago learned a wooden fence adds more, at less cost, than any other addition to the exterior of a modern home. It can determine the whole character of the house, emphasising some features and subduing others. Wooden fences are unsurpassed in aesthetic value, decorum and practical usage. Natural wood blends into the scene as a backdrop, for flowers and shrubbery. Solid wood designs provide a shield against the outside world, converting the patio or yard into an outdoor room. The delicate tracery of W' hite pickets or the bold, firm lines of white boards form the perfect frame for picturesque cottage or substantial estate.

DEAR BOYS AND GIRLS
During the past few weeks you have all probably been getting as ready for Christmas. The Christm the with t ree is now decorated streambrightly coloured lights and ers and all those Christmas cards have been placed in a prominent place so that all may see them. Mum has probably iced the Christmas cake a nd baked the plum pudding and all you have to do is wait to eat t hem. I want you to forget these for a few moments and take time off to think of those millions of people throughout the world who do not know anything about Christmas and to whom the Word of Christ has not yet been taken. Say a prayer for them and for the many missionaries, t oo, who are doing their best to spread the message of Christmas. Also remember those children who have to go hungry on Christmas day as they do every other day of the year. Pray to the Infant Jesus that somehow their bodies may be better fed. Finally I would like to wish all junior readers and their famil ies a very happy and holy Christmas. God bless you all, BROTHER JUNIPER
