Albury'sflyingpriest,Rev. FatherJohnGlover,wasfatally injuredrecentlyinanaircrash inNewGuinea,wherehewas attachedtoamissionarystation.
Beyondthebareannouncement ofhisdeath,nothingisknownof theaccidentwhichoccurredon anairstripintheAlexishafen region.FatherGloverhadreturnedhurriedlytotheisland afterhisrecenttriptoAlbury, sothattheplanewouldbeavailabletocarryontheaerialwork associatedwiththemissions, anotherplanewhichhadbeenin usehavingcrashed.
FatherGlover,whowas39 yearsofage,wastheeldestson ofthefamily,wlhichisverywell knowninAlburyanddistrict. BorninPerthandeducatedat theChristianBrothers'College, Albury,hestudiedforthepriesthoodatSpring-woodandManly, andwasordainedinSt.Patrick's Church,Albury,17yearsago.He wasthenthefirstAlburyboyto beordainedinStPatrick's.
ItwtsatCootamundrain 1939thathelearnedtofly,and soonafterwardshewentonmissionaryworktoNewGuinea, wherehelabouredintheMorobe district.
Later,FatherGloverbecame achaplainwiththefamousSixth Division,withwhichhewent throughthedrawn-outAitape campaign.Afterhisdischarge fromtheArmyaftertheendof thewar,hereturnedtohismissionaryworkinN.G.
Amongthesurvivingmembers ofhisfamilyisanotherpriest, Rev.FatherKevinGlover,his brother,whoisatpresentin Rome.

Itisemphasisedthatallothercorrespondentswho havereportedthistrialfortheAmericanpresswereHungariannationals.Thisisnottodisparagethesenewspapermen.Itis,though,tomakeclearthattheirlivelihoods,theirjobs,thesafetyoftheirfamilies,perhapstheir verylives,weredependentonthewaytheytriedto"report".this"trial"underthegunsofagovernmentthat wastheimplacableenemyofreligion.

Whatevermaybethenatureofthe"admitted"negotiationsbetweentheCardinal-whoseroyalistsentimentshavebeennosecret-andOttovanHapsburg,it ispointedoutthatonlyunderatotalitarianregimecould apersonbechargedwitha"crime"becauseheharboured suchsentiments.TheCardinalhasemphatically'denied thatheengagedinany"plot"torestorethemonarchyin Hungary,ortooverthrowthepresentHungarianregime.

Whatevermaybethenatureofthe"admitted"negotiationsbetweentheCardinal-whoseroyallstsentimentshavebeennosecret-andOttovonHapsburg,it ispointedoutthatonlyunderatotalitarianregimecould apersonbechargedwitha"crime"becauseheharboured suchsentiments.TheCardinalhasemphatically'denied thatheengagedinany"plot"torestorethemonarchyin Hungary,ortooverthrowthepresentHungarianregime.
InconnectionwiththeaccusationthattheCardinal soughttopreventthereturnoftheCrownofSt.Stephen, nowinthepossessionoftheAmericanArmy,toHungary'sCommunistrulers,itwasexplainedbyaHungariannowintheUnitedStatesthat"atleast90percent" oftheHungarianpeopleareequallyguiltyofthat "crime,"becausethey,too,wouldratherseetheircountry'snationalsymbolheldinsafehandsoutside,thanby aregimewhoseactionsandplansareincompletecontradictionwithHungarianChristianandnationaltraditions.
Whatmustappearastheculminationofthetravesty ofjusticeofferedintheBudapestcourtroomwasthe statementbytheCardinal'sdefencecounselthatthere wasnoattackonfreedomofreligioninHungary,and that"thispeople'sdemocracy,whenitmadereligious teachingcompulsoryintheschools,wentfurtherinthis respectthancountriesintheWest."

Numerouspersonswhoarethoroughlyacquainted withtheCardinal,whoknowhisstrengthofwillandhis forceful,austerepersonality,declarethemselvesstillunabletoreconcilesomeofhisalleged"confessions"and "admissionsofguilt"duringthetrialwithhisunyielding, fearlessatitudethathascharacterisedhisactionsand utterancesduring'flatlyyears,unless,theydeclare,hehas beenovercomebythat"weaknessoftheflesh"ofwhich theCardinalspokeinalettertotheHungarianBishops shortlybeforehisarrest.
