How your support is shaping the future of Spalding Dear Friends Thanks to your constant faith-filled support of Archbishop Spalding, its mission, and its students, you have been welcomed into our new President’s Society! As members of this special group, it is important to keep you informed of how your gifts have been realized to strengthen our community. Therefore, from time to time, I will send out this digital communication to share the good that is at work in our Spalding community. From academics to athletics; from engineering to music; from service to worship, this periodical can serve as an opportunity for you to appreciate how we are enhancing our Spalding community together.

Each day I walk through our hallways, and I see innovation, opportunity, service, intellectual challenge, and the instilling of our Catholic faith within the hearts of our students. I know much of this is possible because of you, our strongest Spalding supporters. It is my hope that you’ll be inspired to stay connected with our community in our time ahead. Whether it be through your online support, a conversation over coffee, attendance at one of our events, or all of the above, know that your time, talents, and treasure, are helping keep us One Spalding that will forever remain One In Christ.

SCHOOL NEWS Knott Scolarships

ACADEMICS

Spalding is incredibly proud to have among us eight Knott Scholars for the 2022-23 school year. Knott Scholars are selected to honor Catholic students who excel in academics. They receive generous four-year full-tuition scholarships that recognize the student and family's commitment to Catholic commitment.

Engineering

Spalding's senior engineering students presented their Capstone Project Proposals to a panel of industry professionals. This event gave our seniors the chance to interact with the panel early in their design process and gain valuable feedback on their design concepts before completing and demonstrating their work later in the semester.

Catholic Schools Week

On January 31st we celebrated Catholic Schools Week with liturgy. After mass we recognized two hard-working employees - Karen Montoya was awarded Teacher of the Year, and Ryan Galster (IT) was given the Kathy Sanders Spirit of Spalding award. This year's recipients were unanimous among their peers and the students. Both individuals have dedicated many hours to making Spalding a better place for the students, faculty, and staff.

Service to others is a huge part of what we do at Spalding and part of our motto of living One in Christ.

Students are required to complete a certain number of service hours each year, and they consistently exceed our expectations! Current students have completed nearly 46,000 hours since they began their Spalding journey.

Keep in mind this is with the senior class losing a year due to COVID and the freshman class not having hours due yet, so it is pretty impressive!

ADVANCEMENT INITIATIVES MAKE AN IMPACT

We secured the first three gifts for our newly launched Impact Scholarship Program. An Impact Scholarship gives students the gift of a Spalding education that may have otherwise been impossible. Impact Scholars will receive this support for their entire four-year Spalding experience

On Saturday, March 25th, Archbishop Spalding High School will celebrate 56 years of excellence in Catholic education at our annual Gala.

This important event is our primary source of fundraising revenue. archbishopspalding.org/gala

The Learning Commons will become a beautiful multifunction space that students, teachers and guests can utilize for independent study, group work, meeting space and more!

In just four short months we will be underway on a campus enhancement that will have a major impact on our Cavaliers. The library has not seen prominent improvements to the space since we opened our doors in 1966. Slight updates have been made over time, yet alumni who return from the 60s and 70s would not notice much of a difference at all.... until NOW. Thanks to incredibly generous support from Tom & Alexandra Ripley we will now have a true learning commons space that prepares students for the flexible and adaptable learning environments that they will see in college and beyond.

We partnered with our long-time architect Craig Gaulden Davis, and received support from vendors SteelCase and Danker to dream up a space that our students would truly benefit from. Gone are the days of "one size fits all" furnishings for one of the largest and most used spaces on campus.
