ADMIN ADDRESSES AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: PAVING MORE PARKING

BY EMMA POMEROY

One of the most apparent issues this past year was finding parking for every student. Though, the administration has found a helpful and unique solution. By having students park at the stadium and ride the bus up to the school, they have created more space for many students. “Parking at the field … has been a unique solution for a big problem,” said Principal Cathrine Perrow. However, a more permanent solution will be available for the 2026-2027 school year. “Over the summer, one

of our projects is adding parking,” Perrow said, “we expect that we should be able to see all of our students park up here, starting the beginning of the year.” This is a huge win for the members of the student body that drive to school every morning; however, the victories do not stop there. “We’re very appreciative of the students who have parked down at the field,” Perrow said. “We will prioritize parking spots… for the people who have had to park down at the field and a reduced rate for those students because they paid to be down there.”

IMPROVING ATTENDANCE AND GRADES BY LEXXI SCHMITT

Over this past school year, students’ grades and attendance have been dropping to a concerning number. Because of this, the administration has decided that it is time to take action and fix this issue. The first concern to talk about is students’ grades. Principal Catherine Perrow said that she thinks “sometimes students just need to be reminded about the core purpose of coming to school… It’s really important that people who come to Hoban remember that it was an intentional choice for every

person to come here.” Hoban is considered a school of excellence as it requires applications, essays and a placement test to get in. Being a private school, Hoban is never considered to be someone’s backup school, making it different when compared to public schools. Perrow thinks it is “important [to] remind some of our students that engaging in… [their] school work is important” and she wants all students to remember to work diligently. The second concern to talk about is student attendance. This year, student attendance

Although this problem has many different possible contributing factors, the administration wants to work to cut this number down. “One of the things that we as an administration will work on over the summer is creating a systematic approach to student attendance and early intervention,” Perrow said.

The administration wants to work on planning ahead to know when it is right to intervene with students and decide with the student in mind how to support them to improve attendance. Overall, these two topics are things that need to be addressed, and the administration is doing just that. With the summer break coming up, they are going to use that time to their advantage and to keep working to improve our school.
