“What Remains”
April 2 - May 3, 2026
Arcadia Contemporary is pleased to present “What Remains,” a solo exhibition of new still life paintings by acclaimed American realist Daniel Sprick. The exhibition features fourteen new oil paintings depicting interiors and still life images that have made Sprick one of the most celebrated and respected realist painters in the country. “What Remains” marks Daniel Sprick’s third solo exhibition with Arcadia Contemporary and his first since 2011.
In “What Remains,” Daniel Sprick returns to many of the objects and motifs that have appeared throughout his work for decades; skulls, vessels, flowers, tools, and plants. These familiar forms appear alongside fragile remnants such as broken eggshells, bones, and wilted petals. Together they quietly echo the long tradition of vanitas painting, where objects serve as reflections on time, mortality, and renewal. Some of the objects depicted have accompanied the artist from studio to studio for many years, while others appear only briefly before fading away.
Created from the artist’s Denver home and studio, these paintings possess a heightened sense of atmosphere as light and space move gently through the compositions. The surrounding environment becomes an active presence within the work as the objects depicted appear less like formal arrangements and more like things quietly inhabiting a lived-in space, suspended in time.
