WELCOME

Vision & Mission Our vision is guided by: an ethic of material sufficiency an ethic of equity a responsibility to future generations

Our Mission To provide an education that connects our community with the natural world and inspires us to imagine and build a future in which all may flourish.

How We Meet Our Vision and Mission We achieve our mission and vision through a unique, holistic approach to teaching and learning that develops the Head, Heart, Hands and Spirit of every learner. This approach ensures that learning is not only academically rigorous but also meaningful, connected and transformative. We do this by:

Developing the Head through academic excellence, critical and systems thinking, and futures-focused learning that helps students understand complex global challenges and question assumptions about the world.

Nurturing the Heart by promoting empathy, respect for diverse perspectives, and a strong commitment to social and environmental justice, encouraging students to recognise and challenge inequality. Engaging the Hands through regular, real-world and inquiry-based learning in natural and built environments, enabling students to apply their learning, solve authentic problems and develop confidence and agency.

Inspiring the Spirit by fostering purpose, wellbeing and a sense of connection to place, community and the wider world, helping students explore what it means to live well and act responsibly.

Lost Property

Students are expected to take responsibility for their own belongings; they are allocated a secure locker to store their items in. There is a lost property box on the Second Floor in which students can find misplaced items. Lost property can be collected from reception at the end of the school day.

Phone Policy We have a zero-visibility mobile phone policy. We do, however, appreciate that as a student moves into Secondary, they may need them on the way to and from school. If you would like your child to have a phone for this purpose, it must be switched off and stored safely in lockers between 7:30am and 3:20pm each day. Any phones seen during this time will be confiscated until the end of the school day, and parents informed. We do not take responsibility for lost or damaged phones that are brought into school. Medical

The health and safety of our students is of utmost importance, and we have a School Clinic staffed with a full-time Doctor and nurses on the Second Floor, to deal with any medical concern. The team works closely with our pastoral team to ensure students are fully supported. Parents must inform us of any medical needs or allergies, so your child can be given the best care possible. The medical team will contact parents regarding the annual schedule of DHAmandated checks and vaccination schedule.

Transportation A school bus can be accessed for easy transportation to and from school, or one way. We partner with STS, Dubai’s leading school transport service provider, to offer a safe, convenient and costeffective solution, adhering fully to all applicable KHDA and RTA safety regulations governing school transport. Key Stage 4 and 5 As students progress into Key Stage 4 and 5, the emphasis on independent learning increases. Home learning becomes a key tool in preparing students for the rigours of public examinations and further academic or vocational study. At this stage, students are expected to take greater ownership of their learning outside of lessons. Home learning is: Set regularly by subject teachers, in alignment with planning and assessment cycles. Designed to consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding. Tasks may include: Online assignments through platforms such as Sparx, or Educake. Extended writing tasks, including exam-style questions. Revision-based activities, independent research, or pre-reading. At all key stages, home learning is tailored where appropriate to support individual needs, while helping students develop responsibility, organisation and effective study habits. Arbor School

PASTORAL CARE

Wellbeing & Behaviour Escalation Steps We believe students learn best in a calm, respectful and supportive environment. Through positive relationships, engaging learning experiences and recognition of success, we encourage students to make good choices and contribute positively to our school community. We recognise that children and young people do not always get things right. There will be occasions when students make poor choices, act impulsively or fail to meet our expectations. When this happens, we work with students to reflect on their actions, understand the impact of their behaviour, repair relationships where needed and make positive changes. To ensure fairness and consistency, we operate a clear, tiered behaviour system. Responses to behaviour are proportionate and progressive, with consequences and support matched to the nature, frequency and severity of the behaviour. This structured approach ensures that students understand expectations, have opportunities to learn from mistakes and receive the guidance needed to make better choices in the future. Where behaviour is more serious, repeated, or poses a risk to the wellbeing of others, consequences and support may be escalated. In such cases, parents will be informed and may be contacted by phone, email or invited to attend a meeting so that we can work together to support the student in making positive choices.
