{ AN INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE }

A

FTER THE PANDEMIC

pushed pause on planned gatherings for over a year, engaged couples are putting in extra effort to create a special atmosphere for everyone attending their weddings. There is a new appreciation for being able to assemble with loved ones, and it resonates in the type of events they are planning. For a wedding, that begins with a venue. One of the newest is Artisan Acres Estate, situated on 12 secluded acres of lush landscape near the heart of Noblesville. With a Carpenter Gothic style barn, flowers and fruit gardens, pastures, and a winding path that leads to an enchanting forest clearing, the site is a hidden gem that combines Midwest farm with Old World charm. “Wedding guests are no longer confined to four walls,” says Krysty-An Spartz, who owns Artisan Acres along with her husband, Charlie. “With the scale of our property, we offer a number of configurations for the big day. We have location options for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dining, dancing, and conversation coves, which present a number of creative opportunities.”

“Thanks to the unique layout of our venue, guests can enjoy the reception from one of many distinct vantage points and, yet, still feel like they are connected to the larger group.”

INDIANA BRIDE | JANUARY 2022

The property’s design comes from the Spartzes’ travels through Europe and allows for plenty of movement for not only the bridal party, but guests of all ages. “Thanks to the unique layout of our venue, guests can enjoy the reception from one of many distinct vantage points and, yet, still feel like they are connected to the larger group,” Spartz says. Of course, no two weddings are exactly alike, but for more than 50 years, the Indiana Roof Ballroom has been one of the premier banquet venues in the city. Antonia Zunarelli, facility sales manager, says the Indiana Roof Ballroom provides classic elegance with intimacy and romance while infusing many of the newest trends and styles, such as interactive food stations and mini dessert bars in addition to (or in lieu of) a traditional wedding cake. “We pride ourselves on our consistency, personability, and the overall connection we make with families,” Zunarelli says. “We love the personal touches … that make guests walk into the room and say, ‘This is so [bride] and [groom.]’ We also love watching a vision come to life that took months to plan.”

mind, but allow their attendants to create a coordinated look based on what looks best. It helps to have a Pinterest board and some pictures to give us the vibe of what she is looking for.” Grooms are also encouraged to express themselves in their attire. While many still go for black, navy, or gray suits and tuxedos, others shake things up with additional colors such as burgundy or emerald. “We love it when guys are open to something a little more eclectic,” Bissmeyer says. “It’s nice to see them have a sense of fashion and want to show it off.”

ERSONAL TOUCHES can be infused into every aspect of the wedding, from the venue and food to flowers and attire. The traditional white or ivory gown still reigns supreme, but there are a wide range of options for a bride to show off her style. Nancy Bissmeyer, owner of Nancy’s Bridal Boutique, says gown trends include sheer elements, high slits, long trains, and flesh-colored linings with intricate lace overlays. “Dramatic dresses are still really in, as well as low, open backs,” she says. “As for the bridal party, most brides come in with a color scheme in

{ COMING UP ROSES } NSPIRATION BOARDS are also critical

when it comes to choosing bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages, as well as altar and pew adornments. Brides are going beyond the basic nosegay and embracing a range of florals that offer interest, texture, and individual flair. “When I meet with a bride, I always want to see their Pinterest board so that I can see what kinds of looks they are interested in and how I can make that dream come true,” says Karen Morgason, senior wedding

designer for JP Parker Flowers. “While 95 percent of what I make are traditional, handtied bouquets, I also do a lot of cascading arrangements with a variety of flowers.” Morgason says roses remain a staple in many wedding florals, but brides also embrace the ranunculus, which is smaller than a rose but still has a generous petal count. Anemones are another popular choice because their dark center offers a pop to the groom’s attire. Some brides opt for a more natural wildflower spray, while others want

a floral arrangement that can incorporate personal mementoes such as a broach, family photos, or a borrowed heirloom. “I love the personal touches,” she says. “One particularly interesting request was creating the men’s boutonnieres with little Matchbox cars. I love the fact that the guys are personalizing the arrangements they wear and, often, they will come back to me for anniversaries and ask me to recreate something like the flowers their wives carried on their wedding day.” JANUARY 2022 | INDIANA BRIDE

ATURALLY,

wants their big day documented for posterity. When it comes to photography, it’s important to remember that you get what you pay for. Ian Borgerhoff is an awardwinning lifestyle and wedding photographer who says couples often choose a professional based on a price quote and online portfolio, which can lead to disappointing results. 32

INDIANA BRIDE | JANUARY 2022

“A lot of today’s brides forego the consultation, and I wish they wouldn’t do that,” he says. “You need to look at what a photographer can give you from beginning to end and not a sampling of compressed Instagram photos.” With over 700 weddings under his belt, Borgerhoff says a tenured photographer will be happy to share his or her full portfolio with couples and tailor packages to meet

clients’ distinct needs. On the wedding date, photographers spend the whole day with you to ensure that all the important moments are captured. They get to know everyone in the wedding party, and—if things get derailed— they can help get everything back on track. “I under promise and over deliver,” Borgerhoff says. “I take between 12,000 and 15,000 shots and deliver 1,500 edited files in color and in black and white. On top of that,

YOU GOT ENGAGED! NOW WHAT? Most wedding planners agree that booking the venue should top your to-do list.
