Head Coach
James Dollaghan
On September 17th, 1993, Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado, and the Arapaho Nation from the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming began a relationship that promoted awareness to the co-existence of two very diverse cultures.
The “Arapahoe Warrior” signifies a common ground shared between Arapahoe High School and the Arapaho Tribe. By working together within the boundaries of respect to our cultures, we have set precedence in our communities providing a positive solution for our future in the midst of mascot controversy.
For the relationship to continue it must be nurtured by everyone involved, especially the adults. The future facing our young people is determined by today‘s behaviors, actions, and attitudes displayed by adults. Cooperative efforts are not always easy, but as adults we know “nothing of value is ever earned easily.”
The “Arapahoe Warrior” and the history of the Arapaho Tribal Nation are deeply embedded in Colorado. The Arapaho Nation‘s survival and plight is recognized through the endorsement of the ”Arapahoe Warrior”. The original version of the “Arapahoe Warrior” logo is the design of Wilbur Antelope, a Northern Arapaho Artist.
The Arapahoe High School Baseball Booster Club encourages great sportsmanship & participation by every member in the spirit of the true Arapaho
find it and it is yours for a lifetime
I n 1963 Arapahoe High School was an unfinished building. Baseball fielded its first team in 1964, even while students were still housed at Newton Junior High. Its first class would not graduate until 1965, and yet it was a start of a tradition. Our Warrior Mascot symbolizes the brave, conquering, and inspirational spirit that we hope baseball reflects. Available records indicate that the first head coach was Phillip Zamora. Throughout all the years since 1964 there have been many changes; in players, coaches and of course society, but the game still remains. Players and fans come together in emerald cathedrals and renew its rituals; the quiet air of baseball, batting and infield practice, pitchers warming up in the bullpens, coaches exchanging lineups, and finally the Warriors take the field and the batter walks to the plate….
In those moments we can recapture the purity of wondering whether something good can happen and then proving that it can. In 2018 Head Coach James Dollaghan and his players take their place in the splendid tradition of Arapahoe Baseball.
Thank you for purchasing our 2018 Arapahoe Baseball Program and assisting the Arapahoe Baseball Booster Club and our student-athletes. Parent support and involvement is absolutely essential at AHS, and we appreciate you!
This year marks the 54th Anniversary of Arapahoe High School. Under the leadership of our head baseball coach, Mr. Jim Dollaghan, Arapahoe’s athletic director, Mr. Pat McCabe, and with the support of our Arapahoe Baseball Booster Club our boys are prepared to compete within the prestigious Centennial League against the largest high schools in Colorado: Cherokee Trail, Cherry Creek, Eaglecrest, Grandview, Mullen, Overland, and Smoky Hill. Good coaches are good teachers! Our coaching staff has worked hard to condition, train and prepare our athletes physically, as well as mentally. These young men value team unity, and have strong knowledge of the sport of baseball.
Our students, just like students from other schools, learn from adult behaviors and attitudes. It is expected that, as adults, we will set positive examples of encouragement and sportsmanship at all times. Respect, civility, dignity, sportsmanship and safety shall be the guiding principles of the Centennial League. We ask our student athletes to always do their best, and we should expect no less from ourselves. Since none of us can predict which of these athletes may have the potential to become American Olympians or collegiate or professional athletes, we should always strive to be encouraging and supportive adults.
Continued commitment to a strong athletic program as well as outstanding academic achievement is vital to Arapahoe’s continued success. Just over $21 million in scholarship money was offered to the 2017 graduating class. Last spring 755 Advanced Placement examinations were written with many students scoring well enough to earn college credit. Arapahoe has consistently scored among the highest ACT scores anywhere. Our drop-out rate is less than 2% and 93% of our graduates go on to college. Since few of our Arapahoe athletes ever reach the professional level in any sport, it is important to place more importance on academic achievement. This strong academic preparation plays out in athletics in the form of competition for college scholarships as well as in the ability of our scholar-athletes to make commitments, participate as members of a team, support others, and enhance character.
At Arapahoe we expect our students to demonstrate the positive attributes of the Warrior. We have gained knowledge and understanding over the past 24 years through our relationship with the people of the Arapaho Tribal Nation. We are one of the very few public high schools in America that maintains the relationship, support and counsel of the Native American. Our Warrior represents the authentic Arapaho Warrior, as painted by tribal artist, Wilbur Antelope. We ask all who attend Arapahoe baseball contests to possess the pride and spirit of a Warrior!
We are proud of our Arapahoe Baseball Team, and wish them the best of luck and much success in the
Welcome to the 2018 Arapahoe Warrior Baseball Season. It will be another memorable and exciting experience for the boys. The Warriors will again compete in the 5A Centennial League, a league that is amongst the strongest in Colorado. Showing the ability to compete in this prestigious league will be a key indicator that our boys can play with anybody. Enthusiasm is high, and these young men are surely up to the challenge.
What an awesome opportunity this is for these guys. Teamwork, perseverance, attention to detail, and self efficacy are but a few of the great things taught through participation in high school sports. In no sport are these lessons more obvious than they are in baseball, and there is not another sport where mastery of these skills is more important in terms of success. The promise of this season goes far beyond the results of any particular contest. I hope you will recognize the excellence.
Under the leadership of Coach Jim Dollaghan, the Warriors have been working hard. The positive energy coming from the baseball program, during winter morning workouts, through tryouts, and continuing through the present day has been nothing short of amazing. The players have honed their skills, and worked on their games in an effort to ready themselves for competition. They are primed to take the field and reap the benefits of all their efforts. Although it is difficult to predict the final record for these baseball teams, it is not hard to guarantee that they will reach their greatest potential.
I would like to thank all the Baseball parents, the Arapahoe High School staff, and every other person who has contributed to the opportunity these players have. I hope that you share my excitement for the start of this new baseball season. Please take every opportunity to enjoy the efforts of these “Warriors,” and I hope you have a great season.
Thank you,
Pat McCabe Athletic DirectorHello and thank you for your support of Arapahoe Baseball.
Arapahoe H.S. has a deep tradition dating back to 1964. It is a tradition I am proud to continue and to uphold as the Coach of this prestigious program. Backed by a tremendous administration, led by our Principal Mrs. Natalie Pramenko and a veteran Athletic Director, Mr. Pat McCabe, as well as the dedicated teachers inside the classroom, the unwavering support of parents and the countless hours they provide volunteering for the program, the generous contribution of sponsors and the deeply vested involvement of the community, as well the strongest alumni group in the state, Arapahoe Baseball's future looks bright.
"We work hard, we play hard and we keep the game fun" has been my coaching philosophy since I began coaching in 1992. As I enter my 2nd year, I firmly believe that in order for kids to compete for you, they have to love coming to the yard. That's not always as easy as it sounds because there is a fine line between having fun and competing....and losing is never fun. Our student/ athletes will strive to understand that line. It first starts in the classroom where they are held to a higher standard. Grades are of the utmost importance as an Arapahoe Warrior, because that is why they are here. Our student/athletes will work to model the proper behavior and set the example for other students in the classroom.
Understanding that philosophy on the field requires us to take the approach of "no one can out hustle us!" That approach brought us back to the playoffs last year and resulted in an overall record of 11-9. Being an Arapahoe Warrior and having the privilege to wear the A, is something that is not taken lightly. Each practice is structured to meet the demands of today's athlete, stressing the importance of handling pressure situations but also having to deal with the adversity of failure. This is a program which focuses on doing the little things well; understanding and developing a high baseball IQ, through rigorous spring and summer schedules, working hard to develop a work ethic that is second to none and maintaining a top notch facility that visitors envy. "Pitch by pitch, out by out and inning by inning", will create the result we're seeking.
Sincerely,
Coach Dollaghan

We work hard, we play hard and we keep the game fun
