Arapahoe High School & the Arapahoe People
On September 17th, 1993, Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado, and the Arapaho Nation from the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming began a relationship that promoted awareness to the co-existence of two very diverse cultures.
The “Arapahoe Warrior” signifies a common ground shared between Arapahoe High School and the Arapaho Tribe. By working together within the boundaries of respect to our cultures, we have set precedence in our communities providing a positive solution for our future in the midst of mascot controversy.
For the relationship to continue it must be nurtured by everyone involved, especially the adults. The future facing our young people is determined by today‘s behaviors, actions, and attitudes displayed by adults. Cooperative efforts are not always easy, but as adults we know “nothing of value is ever earned easily.”
The “Arapahoe Warrior” and the history of the Arapaho Tribal Nation are deeply embedded in Colorado. The Arapaho Nation‘s survival and plight is recognized through the endorsement of the ”Arapahoe Warrior”. The original version of the “Arapahoe Warrior” logo is the design of Wilbur Antelope, a Northern Arapaho Artist.
Arapahoe Baseball Tradition
In 1963 Arapahoe High School was an unfinished building. Baseball fielded its first team in 1964, even while students were still housed at Newton Junior High. Its first class would not graduate until 1965, and yet it was a start of a tradition. Our Warrior Mascot symbolizes the brave, conquering, and inspirational spirit that we hope baseball reflects. Available records indicate that the first head coach was Phillip Zamora. Throughout all the years since 1964 there have been many changes; in players, coaches and of course society, but the game still remains. Players and fans come together in emerald cathedrals and renew its rituals; the quiet air of baseball, batting and infield practice, pitchers warming up in the bullpens, coaches exchanging lineups, and finally the Warriors take the field and the batter walks to the plate….
In those moments we can recapture the purity of wondering whether something good can happen and then proving that it can. Head Coach Jim Dollaghan, his players, coaches and managers take their place in the splendid tradition of Arapahoe Baseball.

Message from the Principal
Dear Arapahoe Baseball Supporters,
Thank you for purchasing our 2019 Arapahoe Baseball Program and assisting the Arapahoe Baseball Booster Club and our student-athletes. Parent support and involvement is absolutely essential at AHS, and we appreciate you!
This year marks the 55th Anniversary of Arapahoe High School. Under the leadership of our head baseball coach, Mr. Jim Dollaghan, Arapahoe’s athletic director, Mr. Pat McCabe, and with the support of our Arapahoe Baseball Booster Club our boys are prepared to compete within the prestigious Centennial League against the largest high schools in Colorado: Cherokee Trail, Cherry Creek, Eaglecrest, Grandview, Mullen, Overland, and Smoky Hill. Good coaches are good teachers! Our coaching staff has worked hard to condition, train and prepare our athletes physically, as well as mentally. These young men value team unity and have strong knowledge of the sport of baseball.
Our students, just like students from other schools, learn from adult behaviors and attitudes. It is expected that, as adults, we will set positive examples of encouragement and sportsmanship at all times. Respect, civility, dignity, sportsmanship, and safety shall be the guiding principles of the Centennial League. We ask our student athletes to always do their best, and we should expect no less from ourselves. Since none of us can predict which of these athletes may have the potential to become American Olympians or collegiate or professional athletes, we should always strive to be encouraging and supportive adults.
Continued commitment to a strong athletic program as well as outstanding academic achievement is vital to Arapahoe’s continued success. Just over $23 million in scholarship money was offered to the 2018 graduating class. Last spring 881 Advanced Placement examinations were written with many students scoring well enough to earn college credit. Arapahoe has consistently scored among the highest ACT scores anywhere. Our drop-out rate is less than 1% and 91% of our graduates go on to college. Since few of our Arapahoe athletes ever reach the professional level in any sport, it is important to place more importance on academic achievement. This strong academic preparation plays out in athletics in the form of competition for college scholarships as well as in the ability of our scholar-athletes to make commitments, participate as members of a team, support others, and enhance character.
At Arapahoe we expect our students to demonstrate the positive attributes of the Warrior. We have gained knowledge and understanding over the past 25 years through our relationship with the people of the Arapaho Tribal Nation. We are one of the very few public high schools in America that maintains the relationship, support, and counsel of the Native American. Our Warrior represents the authentic Arapaho Warrior, as painted by tribal artist, Wilbur Antelope. We ask all who attend Arapahoe baseball contests to possess the pride and spirit of a Warrior!
We are proud of our Arapahoe Baseball Team, and wish them the best of luck and much success in the 2019 season! GO WARRIORS!!!!
Message from the Athletic Director
Arapahoe High School Baseball Community,
Welcome to the 2019 Arapahoe Warrior Baseball Season. It will be another memorable and exciting experience for these boys. The Warriors will once again compete in the 5A Centennial League, a league whose top teams are amongst the strongest in Colorado. Competing in this league is a key indicator that our teams can compete against anybody. Expectations are high, and these boys are surely up to the challenge.
What an awesome opportunity for these athletes. Teamwork, resiliency, precision, determination, and the ability to work outside one’s comfort zone are but a few of the great things taught through participation in high school sports. In no sport are these lessons more obvious than they are in baseball, and there is not another sport where mastery of these skills is more important in terms of success. The promise of this season goes far beyond the results of any particular contest. I hope you will recognize the excellence of the teams regardless of the outcome of each game.
Under the leadership of Coach Jim Dollaghan, the Warriors have been working hard. They’ve honed their skills, and worked on strength and agility in an effort to ready themselves for competition. They are primed to take the field and reap the benefits of all their efforts. Although it is difficult to predict the final record for these teams, it is not hard to guarantee that they will reach their greatest potential.
I would like to thank all baseball parents, the Arapahoe High School staff, and every other person who has contributed to the opportunity these players have. I hope that you share my excitement for the start of this new baseball season. Please take every opportunity to enjoy the efforts of these “Warriors,” and I hope you have a great season.
Thank you,
Pat McCabe Athletic Director

Message from the Coach
Hello and thank you for your support of Arapahoe Baseball.
Arapahoe H.S. has a deep tradition dating back to 1964. It is a tradition I am proud to continue and to uphold as the Coach of this prestigious program. Backed by a tremendous administration, led by our Principal Mrs. Natalie Pramenko and a veteran Athletic Director, Mr. Pat McCabe, as well as the dedicated teachers inside the classroom, the unwavering support of parents and the countless hours they provide volunteering for the program, the generous contribution of sponsors and the deeply vested involvement of the community, as well the strongest alumni group in the state, Arapahoe Baseball's future looks bright.
"We work hard, we play hard and we keep the game fun" has been my coaching philosophy since I began coaching in 1992. As I enter my 3rd year, I firmly believe that in order for kids to compete for you, they have to love coming to the yard. That's not always as easy as it sounds because there is a fine line between having fun and competing....and losing is never fun. Our student/athletes will strive to understand that line. It first starts in the classroom where they are held to a higher standard. Grades are of the utmost importance as an Arapahoe Warrior, because that is why they are here. Our student/athletes will work to model the proper behavior and set the example for other students in the classroom.
Understanding that philosophy on the field, requires us to take the approach of "no one can out hustle us!" That approach sent us to a second straight playo appearance which in 2018, resulted in a District 2 Regional Championship and our fourth (80’, 95’, 08’, 18’) Final Four appearance in the State Playo s. Losing our last game in 2018 1-0, has renewed the emphasis on scoring runs. The updates at the field this year reflect that emphasis. Updating
the outdoor cages with new tee and soft toss stations, turf, L-screens, and a strength area will allow multiple Warriors with ample opportunity to improve as a hitter.
Being an Arapahoe Warrior and having the privilege to wear the A, is something that is not taken lightly. Each practice is structured to meet the demands of today's athlete, stressing the importance of handling pressure situations but also having to deal with the adversity of failure. This is a program which focuses on doing the little things well; understanding and developing a high baseball IQ, through rigorous spring and summer schedules, working hard to develop a work ethic that is second to none and maintaining a top notch facility that visitors envy. "Pitch by pitch, out by out and inning by inning", will create the result we're seeking.
Sincerely,
Coach Dollaghan
Arapahoe Baseball Booster Club 2019
WELCOME to the Spring 2019 Arapahoe High School Baseball season! We are proud to introduce nearly 70 outstanding Arapahoe athletes who have worked hard and earned the opportunity to represent AHS as Warriors both on and off the baseball field. Led by Head Coach Jim Dollaghan and a terrific staff of assistant coaches, our four teams are determined to compete and win at each level and continue to build a strong tradition of success at Arapahoe Baseball!
A program like ours truly could not exist without the tremendous efforts and financial contributions of our parent and family volunteers and the generous support of our sponsors and community. Those resources are what enable us to create and maintain our baseball program and have a vision for the future of Arapahoe Baseball.

Warriors Make the Final Four in the 2018 State Baseball Playoffs
After winning their district playoff at AHS, the Warriors qualified for the State playoffs as the #8 seed and thus played their first game on May 21 against #1 Mountain Vista. With Drew Hayes on the mound, the Warriors upset the Golden Eagles 8-1 at All-City Stadium. Later that day with team MVP Garrett DeClue on the mound, Arapahoe beat the #5 seed Cherokee Trail Cougars 9-1. The following day, the Warriors lost to Heritage 7-4 but with the two earlier wins, earned a spot in the final four, along with Mountain Range, Heritage, and Mountain Vista.
On May 26th, the Warriors lost a pitcher's duel with the Mountain Range Mustangs and lost 1-0 to close out their state appearance. Mountain Vista then beat the Mustangs and Heritage to win the State championship.

Coach Profiles
Head Coach
Coach Jim Dollaghan is a Colorado native, born the youngest of 7 kids, 5 sisters and 1 brother. His father Art, who passed away in 2013, was a well-known and respected Parochial league pitcher here in Denver. His Mother, Nancy is living in Broomfield and is looking forward to seeing the Warriors play. She is an avid Rockies fan and is usually planning a spring break trip to Arizona to take in a couple of games.
Jim married the love of his life Diana, also a teacher, in July of 2002. They have 2 kids, Addison soon to be 15 who attends Arapahoe High School, and Matthew who is 12 and is currently at Powell middle school. Both kids are involved in extra-curricular activities. Both are strong students who enjoy going to school. Coach experienced the parents side of H.S. sports as his daughter participated as a Warrior in volleyball and basketball this year.
JIM DOLLAGHAN
Coach Dollaghan played basketball for 1 year and baseball for 3 years at Colorado Mesa University (formerly Mesa State) from 1986-1991. He was cut from the baseball program his first 2 years but eventually made the program his 3rd year in which he was red-shirted. He primarily played the outfield and played every position on the field except for shortstop and catcher at one point of his career.
In the summer of 1992, coach traveled to Cody, Wyoming and accepted his first coaching job as the legion B coach. Coach Dollaghan found his passion to coach in Cody. After applying for the head coaching position at his high school alma mater, Northglenn, he was not selected but accepted the JV coaching job, which began his coaching career in Colorado. In 1994, he accepted the head coaching position at Green Mountain H.S. in Lakewood and was there for 4 seasons. The years following, he was an assistant at Thornton as well as Legacy High School.
After stepping away from coaching to focus on Dollaghan Construction LLC., he began his teaching career. Coach Dollaghan was reunited with his college pitching coach Joe White, the former Head Coach at ThunderRidge High School. Coach Dollaghan taught social studies for 11 years and was the head JV baseball coach under Coach White for 4 of those years. He stepped away from baseball in 2009 to accept the head softball position at ThunderRidge which he led for 7 years but eventually his love for baseball was too strong. Coach Dollaghan is very proud to have this opportunity to be the head coach of such a wonderful school with a storied tradition.
Coach Danny Nourse is from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Settling in Texas at a young age, he spent time playing at Klein High School and went on to play club baseball at Southwest Texas State. He loves teaching and helping players get to the next level in their baseball career. He has spent many years coaching high school, youth and summer High School teams with great success, but more important than wins, was witness to watching some amazing young boys become men.
A proud father of two collegiate baseball players, he is also blessed to be with his best friend and wonderful wife, Lisa. Danny loves golf, hanging with friends, BBQ'ing, but is most happiest hanging on the dirt. Some people wait their entire lives to meet their favorite player, Danny raised his!
DANNY NOURSE
Coach Mike Scoglio was born in Chicago, IL – Go Cubs Go! He moved to Arizona while he was in high school where he played 3rd base and pitched for his team. He went to college at Northern Arizona University, and then moved to Colorado. He used to coach softball for his daughter and niece.
After 35 years in the workforce, he retired from Lockheed Martin in January of 2017. He is enjoying his role as the o cial scorekeeper for the Varsity team at Arapahoe and getting to know the student athletes. When he’s not in the dugout, you can find him on the golf course. He’s been a part of the Arapahoe community for quite a while – his wife, Cindy, worked in the main o ce for 11 years, and his daughter graduated from AHS in 2007.
Varsity Pitching Coach Nick White is a proud Colorado native, and Arapahoe alumni. He spent time playing in college at Neosho CC, Arapahoe CC, and Northern Colorado while studying Special Education. Arm injuries deeply hampered, and then ultimately ended his playing career. At that point he started coaching. He started coaching legion ball at Arapahoe when he was 21. Since then most of his 15 years coaching have been at ThunderRidge HS, with a 3 year stint at Littleton HS included in there. Coach White has been a varsity pitching coach for about 9 years. His favorite thing about coaching is developing players.
He is a very proud father of his 6 year old son Joshua. In his free time he enjoys playing with his son, watching sports, and studying the game of baseball.

Coach Drew Goodman is a native of New York Drew has spent the last 33 years in Colorado. This is his second year on the Varsity sta at AHS. A graduate of Ithaca College, he played in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate League in the late 80’s and early 90’s for The Denver Raiders. Baseball, Coaching and Broadcasting have always been a passion for him. He coached all three of his boys in all sports throughout their youth. Jacob (2016), a former middle infielder and CaptaIn at Arapahoe went on to play college baseball at Denison and is now studying at CU Boulder. Zach, also a team Captain and catcher helped lead the Warriors to a Final four appearance last year. He was named first team all Centennial league and a member of the All state team. He is currently playing at Webster University. Gabe is a sophomore In the AHS program.
Coach Steve Bond was born in Denver. The son of an oil man, Steve’s family moved several times taking him to Pittsburgh, Dallas, Midland Texas, and Casper. Steve attended Texas Tech University where he played one year of college baseball. He later transferred to the University of Wyoming and graduated with a degree in Education with a minor in Business. Steve taught high school Social Studies in Nebraska and Denver and after six years of teaching, transitioned over to a 25 year career in Sales & Marketing. Steve’s two children are graduates of LPS schools and Colorado State University. Steve has coached baseball for 15 years. He enjoys golf, particularly with his wife Bonnie, camping, and is very active in his church.
DREW GOODMAN
Drew’s “Day Job” during the baseball season is performing his duties as the TV voice of the Colorado Rockies where he has been named Colorado Sportscaster of the year 13 times. Of the many phenomenal memories of watching his kids play baseball, last year’s Warriors run to the final four was among his fondest. It was a specia season and one he wants to see repeated frequently each season. The leader of the Goodman clan is Kristi who in addition to shuttling boys for twenty plus years, has held various posts within the Arapahoe baseball organization. This year they are celebrating their 25th anniversary.
Coach Spenser Hickle is the pitching coach for the JV team. He grew up in Littleton and played youth baseball for the Panthers in the AYL as well as Arapahoe’s feeder team. Spenser attended Arapahoe High School, graduated in 2007, and lettered in both football and baseball. His primary positions were outfield and pitcher. After Arapahoe, Spenser attended Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia, received a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and a master’s degree in education. After college, Spenser was head JV coach at Lanier County High School in Lakeland, Georgia for two years and also umpired for four years. He met his wife Brittany in Georgia and they were married in 2017. Spenser returned to his alma mater where he currently teaches math and coaches both football and baseball. In his free time, he loves going out to eat and watching the Rockies. He loves coaching the JV program and wishes all four Arapahoe baseball teams good luck this season.

Coach Profiles
Coach Michael Lockyer is the head coach for the Sophomore team and a Colorado Native. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a BA in Mathematics. He has been teaching since 1993. This is his third year coaching at Arapahoe. He loves baseball and interacting with students in a di erent context than Math. When he not coaching, Coach Lockyer loves hiking and backpacking in the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
Coach Leyden is a Colorado Native and grew up in Southwest Denver. When he moved into a new Subdivision in 1964, Hampden Ave east (the Valley Highway) was a dirt road. The neighborhood was full of young kids, they played on the Highline Canal, and built tree forts and swings over the canal. The canal filled up on
Memorial Day weekend and flowed until Labor Day Weekend. His parents never saw him until it was too dark to see! His baseball life started at the age of 6. He played with the older kids as a Titian, on a small backstop field behind Thomas Je erson High School. He was fortunate to have very young, enthusiastic and passionate coaches. His dad was instrumental in working with him on the mechanics of every position in baseball. He immediately became hooked on baseball, played spring ball, summer ball, and wished there was fall ball back in the day.
He first strapped up cleats at Thomas Je erson High School where his primary position was starting pitcher. He played against the top high schools during his the 4 years at TJ. He made a bad decision his senior year in early March throwing 3 innings during a scrimmage and then played centerfield. There was a man on second, the ball was hit to him, he came up throwing
to home, and damaged his elbow! After TJ, he went to Northern Colorado and was unable to make the team. His wife Jennifer has been a teacher at Arapahoe High School for 27 years, dedicated to students as both a teacher and as a coach. She introduced him to Coach Dollaghan who was looking for assistant coaches, and that’s when he joined the sta His passion for students and teaching baseball is unparalleled. Last year brought him back to his early years of life and baseball. The excitement of being part of a team. Seeing each player grow, learn, and better understand baseball.
Joseph Herera is a first year English teacher at Arapahoe. He married his high school sweetheart Nicole and they will be celebrating their 7th anniversary in June. They have 3 children; Theo (4), Lucy (2), and Henry (3 months). Joseph graduated from the University of St Thomas (MN) where he played baseball (1B/OF) and football. He has coached football at both the college and high school level for 10 years and is currently a varsity assistant at Arapahoe. He coached baseball for 2 seasons at Brighton High School (his alma mater). He
coaches because he wholeheartedly trusts in the educational experience that lies within athletics and the opportunities to teach life lessons.
