From Wiki “Ambient music focuses on creating a mood or atmosphere through synthesizers and timbral qualities, often lacking the presence of any net composition, beat, or structured melody.[9] It uses textural layers of sound without prevalent musical tropes, rewarding both passive and active listening”

As you know the world of real time augmented reality is about to become a viable commercial industry with the final release and imminent large scale deployment of google glass. The implications of this and the wide ranging effects on human computer interaction, and experience have yet to be explored by artists and designers outside of a select few in the google development loop.

It is clear that since the advent of the internet and the rise of “digital” products there has been a price to pay for such information freedom. That cost it appears is the distinct lack of imagination and a flattening of everyday life.

The great disconnect from the world of atoms to a fully embraced remote fantasy world. A documented example of this is the negative effect of digital cameras. In a scientific paper published in 2018 Julia S.SoaresBenjamin C.Storm found that the act of taking a digital image signalled the photographer to have less need to remember the occasion. In effect, taking a photograph causes the photographer to forget. This counter intuative result is clearly having a very destructive effect on human conciousness and memory, and as we put it “ everyday life”.

If this is true of photography then this has serious implications for the wider conciousness given over what we classify as “ the remote digital conciousness” of the internet. An entire subset of the human brain is deployed to the internet rendering localised memory obsolete. Human conciousness appears to have been functionaly reduced.

Could this be the reason creativity has been apparently reduced. Rather than an imense tool for knowledge and creativity the access to an almost infinite amount of information at virtual zero latency, the internet appears to have had a clearly negative result in this circumstance.

The function of “Ambient” for creative applications From WIKI Walkman is a series of portable media players and some Xperia mobile phones manufactured by Sony. The original Walkman, released in 1979, was a portable cassette player that changed listening habits by allowing people to listen to music on the move.

In 1979 when the first sony walkman was introduced, it was envisioned as a simple portable music listening device. However there was a huge and unforseen effect on release. The act of walking in everyday familier environments was transformed into a cinematic experience while listening to music on the walkman. The act of listening to music at home triggers the imagination while stationary. The act of listening to music while walking had a doubling effect of triggering the imagination and a re evaluation of reality that the listener was immersed in.

This is where “ambient” audio stepped in as an overlay of reality.

Each year new paradigms and concepts arise in the ever changing progress of media and its associated disciplines.

From what was a print based process it has developed into a multi faceted industry or industries. In order to stay even slightly contemporary we have to adapt and experiment quickly each year. As such in this studio we will explore creative ways of experimenting with new technology and software. The three distinct areas of study will be, “Graphics and Motion”, “Physical Media”, “Real time and Interaction.

The concepts of space, time, and social relationship in urban environment are put in flux, while there are growing interests among communities of artists viewing city as social playground, public space, fluid canvas, and invisible layers of network. However the urban environment is not the only available location for media. Rural, seascapes etc etc can all be utilized to express and research the possibilities of Installed locative media.Our objective is to conceptually explore the possibilities of site specific locative media and design.To enable a connection between the environment and location.

This lecture course deals with the new frontiers in science, art, design and cultural studies. It takes a look at what are the embryonic discoveries which are currently below the radar of common understanding. Its aim is to be a primer for areas as yet little understood or explored but will no doubt have lasting and wide spread influence and impact. From cognitive science of quantum consciousness to generative genetics to outsider art and punk rock these lectures aim connect and map the state of the art of human experience in the empirical sciences and the emotions and desires manifest in the humanities.

Areas of discussion are ,Social Networks and the Singularity,Fashion, Fetishism and Branding, Literature, Design and New Technologies, Visual Futurism, Paradigm shifts, Code,Complexity and Digital Fabrication, ZooMorphic, BioMorphic, BioMimicry and BioHacking, Ecology and Design, Exuberance, Psychedelics and Psychonauts Open Source, Sampling and Originality, Clouds and the internet of things, Abstraction and Design, Production Design and Design for entertainment, Art and the Outsiders, The Usual.

Digital Space and Fabrication New techniques for the intersection of computers as a primary tool for direct making and manufacture There are quantum changes taking place in the fields of manufacturing, Construction, Design, Architecture and the use of integrated computing as a driving force of these paradigm shifts. The seeds of these changes can be seen in embryonic form today in the form of the generative and procedural approach to design and architecture as well as new forms of realization such as rapid prototyping and digital fabrication.

The visual form, nature and aesthetic of these new approaches are experiments in trying to define the new aesthetics for these new territories.

Key descriptive terms, Generative and Procedural computing, Aesthetic development for new frontiers Digital Fabrication and construction, Natural systems and integration.

Media Art Emerging technologies such as laser fabrication, locative media, and pervasive computing have brought about new perceptions and social interactions in urban environment, transforming the ways we experience our cities.
