Double Diamond Arabian Showcase Happy New Year and welcome back to our amazing Arabian Horse Connection family, our competitors and members, our sponsors and judges, our helpers and volunteers and everyone who has supported AHC. The committee is honoured to have you join us to celebrate our beloved Arabian Horse.

It’s hard to believe that our last DDAS was February 2021 which was our postponed October 2020 event. We have had two Young Stars of the Future cancelled, one from Covid and one from Flooding. We look back now and reflect upon the last two years and the only word that comes to mind is crazy. Four floods last year which resulted in DDAS being postponed in October and here we are luckily being able to attend our favourite show, Double Diamond Arabian Showcase finally in January 2023.

Our shows have gathered momentum since our inaugural show in 2018 which was a resounding success, we look forward to making this year’s show and those that follow bigger and better, a total of 172 horses entered for our January event.

Some major changes for Arabian Horse Connection for 2023, a change of date and venue for our Young Stars of the Future show, now being held on the 9th & 10th September at Sugarloaf, Cobbity.

A third show in the mix with the introduction of our new third show, Arabian and Derivative Show Horse Championships which will be held on 8th- 9th December at K Ranch, Mt Hunter. Some very exciting details soon to be announced.

February 23rd-25th will see this as the new date for DDAS in 2024.

Hi, I am Jenny Klemra, from the beau�ful Taranaki, New Zealand. I have had horses all my life; in my early years I went through Pony Club gaining through to 'B' Cer�ficate and my Instructors Cer�ficate. I competed in shows,jumping, dressage, hun�ng etc.

A�er ge�ng married in 1973, I purchased a beau�ful Anglo mare and in 1976, our stud Golden Shelter Arabians, was formed. This has been a wonderful journey of producing very beau�ful and func�onal ridden Arabians. I am very passionate for the Arabian horse and we hope to con�nue breeding and compe�ng into the future.

My qualifica�ons are; NZAHS Interna�onal Senior Judge, Halter and Ridden. NZ RAS Senior Judge, Hacks and Ponies Ridden, Halter. All Breeds Judge. NZMHA Judge.

I feel very privileged to be considered to judge at this amazing DDAS Show. I wish everyone the very best, and look forward to having beau�ful horses presented to me. Thank you to all the commi�ee and compe�tors.

I have been involved with Horses since I was 7 years old and got my first Arabian horse, Gai Raphael, at 20 years old. Together Raf and I enjoyed remarkable success in the showring including many Aus Champs, winning the pres�gious Jean Luckock award and Supreme Ridden at the Classic. Over the years I have owned many successful Purebreds and Deriva�ve Arabians and con�nue to show successfully at the highest level. My passion lays mainly in the performance ring where I have competed in most disciplines including Show Jumping, Harness, Reining, Cu�ng, Western Pleasure, Aust Pleasure, Hunter, Dressage, Costume and most recently in side saddle which was a lifelong desire. I have worked with many different breeds in my life�me including Thoroughbred racing and breeding farms, Polo Horses, Veterinary a�ercare, Quarter Horses and ponies, Arabians remain closest to my heart. I am currently living in Koo Wee Rup North in Victoria and have a Purebred Gelding – Volt KA and Part Bred Stallion – Exavier SSA in work for this upcoming show season. I like a horse that shows true characteris�cs for its breeding, good confirma�on, good movement, and a nice eye. Above all I like to see compe�tors being kind and enjoying their horses.

Mieke Bigg Mieke has been involved with breeding and showing Arabians and Performance Horses for over twenty years. Among her recognised judging credentials are; International Panel Judge for Arabians; National EA Show Horse Judge; National Hack Council Judge; Royal Australian Saddle Pony Judge; National Hunter Judge; National Palomino, Buckskin, Paint and Pinto; Australian National Saddle Horse Association (ANSA); and International Miniature Judge.

EXHIBITOR NOTES - DOUBLE DIAMOND ARABIAN SHOWCASE 2022/23 Thank you to everyone for your support for the 2022/2023 Double Diamond Arabian Showcase. We thank you for your entry, your sponsorship and donations and for returning to the ring for our fifth year. To assist the committee in the smooth running of our show please read the following information.

Being held at K Ranch in Mt Hunter, only 10 minutes from Camden this great venue boasts a large indoor arena, excellent stabling facilities which include shavings and an option for competitors to purchase additional bedding at K Ranch to top up, Large outdoor arena that can be used for warming up and lunging.

New amenities block and convenient camping out front of your stables. A canteen/bar and Western shop is also available.

General Double Diamond Arabian Showcase will be conducted, and classes shall be adjudicated in accordance with the current Rules of the AHSA. The AHC committee reserves the right to adjust the schedule, to remove, replace or reallocate judges as well as to split, combine or add/remove extra classes at any time prior to or during the event.

The AHC committee reserves the right to adjust and or modify the allocation of awards to each division or breed section according to the number of entries.

No qualifications are required.

Competitors may exhibit more than one horse in a halter class as long as there is a handler dressed in appropriate attire to exhibit the horse on the ring with all other competitors.

Outstanding requirements Should you have any outstanding requirements they must be paid no later than Thursday 13th October or at the office. If you have paid by bank transfer a copy of the receipt must be produced to collect your exhibitor packs.

Timetable Times are per section and not per class. Classes will not be held up nor will they commence ahead of the scheduled time. We have a jam-packed timetable so please be prepared. If you are scratching a horse from a class, please let us know so we aren’t chasing you for the class. We don’t want you to miss out!

Stabling/Camping/Day parking AHC has no governance over stabling and camping. Please direct all enquiries to K Ranch. Bookings for camping and stabling can be made at any time via nominate. Please do not block access between stables.

If you have not booked camping you are not permitted to park in the stable area. Please park in the Day parking assigned area.

There are limited wheelbarrows and forks so unless you want to wait, please bring your own. Day parking is available in the designated area at no charge. All information can be found on the nominate or K Ranch website.

Wash bays Please keep the wash bays clean for the next person and clean up any rubbish including your horses’ manure before you leave. AHC will also cover the extra cost for hot water to be turned on should the weather require it.

Exhibit Numbers Please ensure you are wearing the correct number for the horse you are showing so we don’t hold up the ring and confuse our stewards and judges.

Show Office We will be frantically setting up on Thursday so please feel free to help us, our office hours will be: Thursday 12th January: 3pm - 5pm Friday 13th January: 6am - 9am & 5pm - 8pm Saturday 14th January: 6am - 8am & 1pm - 2pm & 4pm - 6pm Sunday 15th January: 6am - 8am & 1pm - 3pm Committee accepts no responsibility It is the policy of the committee to see that all due care is taken to protect property, the committee shall not be liable to any person in case of loss or damage by reason of any defect, accident, theft, negligence or neglect, however arising.

Arena familiarisation/Warm up Competitors may enter the arena between: Thursday Private hire 12 pm-4.00pm, Time permitting Friday 6am – 7am & Sunday 6am - 7am.

These times are subject to change. There is a large outdoor arena that can be used to work/lunge your horse.

Please be mindful of others using the arena as well.

Change of arena is required on Saturday evening for the Purebred vs Gelding Ridden Challenge. Many hands make light work. The arena will be lengthened from the halter events and there will be an area inside the arena to warm up before the class. We anticipate this class will be held in the evening.

On Sunday the warm up area inside the arena is only available to use for the next class after the one that is currently on. All competitors must go in one direction and a marshal will be there to assist.

Coaching and Verbal Instruction This is a no no, so please don’t embarrass yourself and do it. We don’t want to have to be grumpy at you.

No one apart from the horse and handler and officials will be allowed in the marshalling area or the arena unless competing. Please use the awesome seating (take your deck chair to prop on the grandstand) and bar area to cheer your teams on.

Code of Behaviour Card System We will be required to use the code of behaviour card system as per AHSA guidelines for all reportable conduct. Please be respectful of your horse and the other competitors.

Photographers Our official photographers for the show are Kerry Frame of Framed by Frame and Beautiful A Photography.

Kerry and Amylie will be in the ring to get your winning shot! Georgia will be outside taking photos, be sure to grab a pic as you leave the ring!!

Ringside Etiquette There is plenty of seating around the arena as well as the bar area. The working arena is for competitors and officials only. Please refrain from standing around inside the ring to watch, you will be asked to move along.

Poochies Whilst we welcome bringing your beloved dog along to the show, they are welcome on a leash. We ask that you take care during the ridden classes especially when taking your dog to the seating area that you don’t do it during a horse working out. I am sure the competitors will love you for it. The arena is scary enough as it is, and we need the riders to be concentrating on their horse, not your dog running rampant.

Suggestion Box We have taken on board suggestions from last year. We will keep modifying until we get it perfect, so please use the suggestion box we have supplied to express your ideas, concerns or changes you think may be useful. We understand not everyone has time to put in hundreds of hours and stress on a committee, so we appreciate your feedback in writing. We like to hear positive things too!!! Please make sure you fill in your name and tick the box if you are a member or not. We can’t take on board anonymous critiques.

Non-Pro, Insurance documents and Dual Registrations Please ensure you have the required documents with you when you collect your exhibitor packs. Copies of registrations from other societies should have been emailed to be verified if you have not done this; they need to be sighted on collection if you have entered a dual registered class.

Non Pro competitors must complete the appropriate AHC non pro declaration. Armbands will be used for insurance purposes, and you will not be allowed in the ring without one. The armband must be worn from the time your competitor pack is collected. A committee member will place it on your wrist.

Challenge workouts Individual workouts shall be given for all exhibits competing in the Makerher Jazz Memorial Jackpot Cup and the Double Diamond Derivative Ridden Jackpot Cup. These have been emailed to competitors. Please note the guidelines for these classes that were noted in the rules and regulations when the program was released.

A Distinctive Feature of the Arabian Breed. The head should be short with a broad forehead, deep circular jowls set wide apart, tapering to a small, refined muzzle. Ears are short with fine edges & with defined tips curved delicately inwards. Eyes large, dark & full, a blunted oval shape, set relatively low, a dish or depression in the profile, situated about halfway between the poll & muzzle can be almost imperceptible or quite pronounced. The forehead may be flat or bulge somewhat (Jibha). Lower edges of the jaw are straight with clean cut edges. The nostrils are large & flexible, capable of great expansion. The mouth is long & firm with sensitive lips & the chin neat & distinct.

The neck should be arched & moderately long. It should be in proportion to the body, set high into the shoulder, rising more steeply from the wither than other breeds. The curve of the neck behind the poll should match the curve of the well detached, pliant throat (Gullet). The shoulder should be long & lean with the shoulder blade at 45 degrees, Thus the point of shoulder will be set well forward & high . The humerus will be more perpendicular & the elbow will be set further forward from the girth region.

The combined effect of these features produces the characteristic easy, long-reaching stride.

A capacious body; deep chest of medium width & long, well sprung ribs giving a deep rounded barrel & good depth through the flank. The side view should exhibit a short top-line & long underline. The withers well developed & higher than the croup which should be long from point of hip to point of buttock. It should also be long and comparatively horizontal from point of croup to butt of tail. At rest, the tail setting is level with the back & not with the point of croup. In motion the croup becomes more horizontal, raising the tail setting. The buttock is set high & projects back well past the point where the tail meets the body. Note that there should be a visible rise from the back, over the loins, to the point of croup, lowering to the butt of tail.

Forelegs perpendicular to the body, forearms long & well muscled, knees broad & flat with the cannons short & cleanly defined tendons running parallel to the bone which is flat & of adequate substance but free of coarseness. Fetlocks clean cut, pasterns medium length, strong, elastic & the same sloping degree as the shoulder. The stifles set clear of the body & capable of free movement. Gaskins long & well muscled. Hocks large, flat, well defined points. Hind cannons slightly longer, standing slightly wider than the front & parallel when viewed from rear. Hooves rounded, generous size, heals wide & adequate depth, hind hooves a little more pointed & narrower than fore, usually turn out slightly.

The walk is smart & free, hind feet overstepping the prints of the fore feet by up to 30cm. The trot is free swinging, the forelegs thrown well forward from shoulder, the feet dwell a moment at full stretch before coming to the ground, giving the characteristic floating action. There should be a matching free forward swing of the limbs from shoulder & stifles. Knees & hocks being well flexed & hind legs brought well forward under the body. The Limb Movements should be straight & even at all paces.
