THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES ENDURANCE CUP CEN 160 KM - 13TH OF FEBRUARY 2022 EMIRATES INTERNATIONAL ENDURANCE VILLAGE AL WATHBA, ABU DHABI - UAE One of the richest and most prestigious events in the world is H.H. The President of the United Arab Emirates Endurance Cup 160 kms (CEN) which is held annually at the Emirates International Endurance Village, Al Wathba-Abu Dhabi, under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE; H.H. General Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and H.H. Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. Since it was first staged in the year 2.000, H.H. The President of the United Arab Emirates Endurance Cup has attracted leading international riders from the United States of America, Europa, Australia and South America as well as the many local riders from the UAE and another GCC countries. Thanks to the generous support of Their Highnesses the Sheikhs and the superb organization of this prestigious annual event, the race gained an outstanding reputation on a worldwide basis and the UAE has become a fixed destination for endurance riders and fans from all over the world every year. Participating horses should be at least eight years old with a maximum heart rate of 64 beats per minute and carry a minimum weight of 60 kgs with saddle.

Al Wathba Stables – Eight Times Champions The winner’s podium has been ascended eight times by riders from the Al Wathba Stables on four consecutives occasions (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), and consecutively in the races of 2013, 2014, 2018 and 2020. Shareef Mohd. Abdullah Baja riding Domino won the title in 2002 and 2003, with a ride time of 08:24:57 (2002) and 07:24:55 (2003). Abdul Rahim Helal Al Jenaibi won the 2004 edition on Jabbar (Super) in a time of 07:20:00. Marzooq Salem Al Marri riding RO Fabiola took the title in 2005 with a ride time of 07:02:21. Khalifa Ali Khalfan Al Jahouri riding Farak won the title in 2013 with a ride time of 06:07:08; and in 2014 on Niac Armor with a ride time of 06:39:39. He was the youngest rider to win in all editions. Rashed Hamoud Humaid Al Junalbi riding 8 Minute took the title in 2018 with a ride time of 06:12:30. Layla Abdul Aziz Al Redha won the title in 2020 on JIG Malambo with a ride time of 06:03:21. Layla is the only woman to win the race from 2000 to the present.

Al Reef Stables – Four Consecutive Titles Yousef Ahmed Al Bloushi was the proud winner of the title in 2009; he rode Charlandre El Sharif and finished the competition in 06:30:53. Sultan Ahmed Al Bloushi successfully defended the title for Al Reef Stables for three consecutive years as he finished the ride in 06:21:12 in 2010 on Charlandre El Sharif; and riding Cronus with a ride time of 06:25:13 in 2011; and with Cronus (Set Sail) on 2012 with a ride time of 06:22:38.

Al Shehhi wins the President of the UAE Endurance Cup 2022 for Al Bawadi Ahmed Saleh Al Shehhi aboard Arizona de Sau (Nourkhan x Shamane de Sau by Desert Kefren) dominated the 160km President of the UAE Endurance Cup held at Emirates Global Endurance Village in Al Wathba in Abu Dhabi, on February 13, 2022. The duo completed the race in 06:09:08 with average speed of 26,007 km/h. The event was held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. The 160km distance was split into six loops of respectively 40, 28, 28, 24, 20 and 20km which included the much dreaded and at the same time very much liked Tora Bora section, as well as the section referred to as the forest. A staggering 396 participants could probably be one of the biggest start lists ever in the history of endurance racing. Al Shehhi, representing Al Bawadi stables, won the prestigious title after covering the distance in 6:09:08 hours, with an average speed of 26kms per hour. The F3 Stables rider Abdullah Ghanem Al Marri aboard Lockelea Starwood Comet (Elphyn Comet x Sharahd Nerida), winning horse in 2019 with Saeed Ahmad Jaber Al Harbi, finished second with a time of 6:09:10 and average speed of 26,005 km/h; and Saif Al Mazrouei, from MRM Stables, riding Magic Glenn Tamar (Castlebar Tempest x Magic Glenn Tiffin) took third with a ride time of 06:09:53 and average speed of 25,954 km/h. Omar Mohammed Al Neyadi, riding Al Wathba Stables’ Akasha Flowing Free (Akasha Samhan x Akasha Gold) was fourth with 6:12:24 on the clock, while fifth placed F3 Stables’ rider Saeed Ahmad Al Harbi was timed at 6:12:41 on Castlebar Cadabra (Castlebar Optic x Yamamah). The winners were crowned by Major General Dr Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, president of the UAE Equestrian & Racing Federation, Sheikh Mohammed bin Nawaf Al Thani, president of the Endurance Racing Club in Qatar, Musallam Al Ameri, director general of the Emirates International Endurance Village and Mohammed Al Hadrami, director of events at Emirates International Endurance Village. Major General Dr Raisi expressed happiness over the success of the 23rd edition of the Cup and he also congratulated the winners of the competition. “Equestrian sport in the country has enjoyed great support from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and with the close follow-up of Sheikh Mansour,” said Dr Raisi. Mohammed Al Hadhrami hailed the cooperation of all participants with the organizing committee of the President’s Cup, which led to the success of the event.

Brazil, Latin America and the Internationalization of Venture Capital Investments Brazil is part of Latin America, which has a large consumer market. It is home to approximately 650 million people and Brazilians representing a third of the region’s population. Latin America has a higher GDP than other regions such as Southeast Asia, which already has a more mature venture capital ecosystem. The continent’s face structural problems in education, healthcare and financial systems that do not meet their populations’ needs. Tech companies want to solve big problems and, consequently, find scale for their solutions. South America offers this sort of opportunity.

There were more than 1,200 fintech startups bringing solutions with a strong digital bias and better customer (CX) experience. Simpler, “mobile first” products stood out in a market where just over 30% of the population has a credit card. Brazil still has 40 million people who are unbanked or have little access to financial services. In other words, a market facing latent problems and that has underserved consumers is very enticing for companies with the ability to innovate.

The Latin American innovation market has primarily developed in projects that were more focused on early-stage companies, which has encouraged regional startups. The ecosystem has shown signs of maturing as time has passed. Some startups have attracted attention from global investors. With an economy that accounts for 30% of Latin America’s GDP, Brazil produced 10 new unicorns in 2021 alone, i.e., half of all the country’s unicorns appeared in a single year. The region’s figures prove that 2021 was a very special year. Venture Capital funds raised US$ 14.8 billion in 772 deals (PitchBook), which is more than was raised over all the previous six years together.

We believe the two main factors driving foreign investment here are the big numbers the Latin American and Brazilian markets offer and the maturity of local projects.

Major international players such as Softbank, Tiger Global, D1, DST and Coatue Management have recognized these promising signs and know that Brazil is the largest economy and main gateway to the region. More mature ecosystems, such as the United States and Europe, have fiercer competition for good projects and higher valuations. Consequently, Latin America, and especially Brazil, have consolidated their position as a portfolio diversification opportunity. In 2021, Brazil’s fintech sector helped drive investment inflows. Why Latin America is gaining ground Global investment companies naturally look for alternatives outside the more mature Northern Hemisphere markets. Foreign investors also have better access to credit and have specific instruments for Venture Capital investments. Additionally, this wave of investment in Brazil only really started to take off recently. In Brazil, C to G rounds (investments) rose from 38 deals in 2018, 2019 and 2020 combined to 44 in 2021 (Distrito Hub). Up until recently, the number of Brazilian late-stage operations was somewhat erratic. The country is just beginning to see more significant investments, many of which include a larger proportion of foreign VC investors. Figures also show investments by local-only players also rose in 2021. Global investors want closer ties to Brazil and Latin America and this boosted their participation. These investors usually have a medium to long-term outlook and tend

to remain focused on the region once they are established locally. We are also facing a challenging macroeconomic situation. Inflation is buffeting the world’s major economies, central banks are hiking rates and tech companies are seeing pre-IPO valuations drop. The NASDAQ index was down around 30% in the first half of 2022. One of the alternatives for foreign investors is to invest during early-stage negotiations. In these types of deals, valuations are at preliminary levels. This year will see valuations and the scale of investment readjust, but there are alternatives to offset this. Brazil has many technology companies that are well positioned for growth. The “The Unicorn Race” report by Distrito Hub mentions several companies in this category: Alice, Omie, PetLove, Descomplica, Shopper etc. These companies have the potential to expand and scale across the continent. International investors recognize all these opportunities which, alongside the quality of Brazil’s innovation projects, will help to sustain the growth.

Brazil - Positive for Innovation International investors will no doubt look at how the country’s economy is progressing and whether we are taking steps to support business innovation, creation and development. Brazil has now introduced several important labor and social security reforms. Although these changes did not meet everyone’s expectations, they did bring in some significant improvements.

The Central Bank is now formally independent, which guarantees it will be guided more by long-term state policies and face less pressure from the administration of the day. There are two issues that have a direct impact on foreign investment in Brazil: tax and foreign exchange (FX). We believe that the big issue in taxation is related to changes in income tax legislation, which could make Brazilian companies more or less attractive. When it comes to foreign exchange (FX), the Central Bank of Brazil has played a very important role modernizing the local economy. The BC# agenda, a set of initiatives intended to modernize financial markets, has recently introduced several innovations, such as PIX (instant payment system) and Open Finance. We are waiting to see some improvement in FX regulation and the Central Bank is now responsible for regulating the guidelines of the New Legal Framework for Foreign Exchange introduced at the end of last year.

Changes in Brazil’s Foreign Exchange Legislation This is a good time to be discussing this topic, as both the lawmakers and the Central Bank are moving along a path to modernize local FX legislation. In September of last year, the Central Bank made some critical changes to the main FX rules, such as allowing FX settlement to take place using payment accounts. mercial bank account. Other improvements have also been introduced, such as allowing non-residents to open a prepaid payment account and payment institutions being able to apply for Central Bank authorization to operate on the FX market, starting from September 2022. At the end of December 2021, Law No. 14386, known as the New Legal Framework for Foreign Exchange, revoked and amended more than thirty different rules, many of them dating back to the 40s, 50s and 60s! As the Central Bank had already indicated before the new law was enacted when it mentioned it would be organizing a public consultation allowing everyone involved in the market to analyze the proposed text and send their comments to the Central Bank, the legislation is clearly intended to streamline foreign exchange regulations. The new law should come into effect by the end of 2022. We are looking forward to the new regulations.
