When the trailers rolled back home from the 2019 U.S. Nationals to Mantua, Ohio and San Marcos, California, both home to Stachowski Farms, there were plenty of rose garlands. In 2019, from the three national shows, the Farm and their clients added 34 National Championships—20 from U.S. Nationals alone which was quite impressive. In addition, they earned 34 Reserve Championships (22 from U.S. Nationals) and 117 Top Ten awards.

The newest wins add to the historical collection of more than 300 National Championships, 250 Reserve National Championships and 1,500 Top Tens. These awards served as validation of what could arguably be the largest Arabian horse training operation in the world.

Jimmy and Peter Stachowski began showing as youth riders with their parents and older brother. Their father had been inspired and enchanted with Arabian horses when he saw them on a farm growing up in Poland. The boys embarked on their professional training career when they were barely out of their teens, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Fast forward to today, and Stachowski Farms is flourishing, with a business model unprecedented in the industry. Outside of their Ohio and California locations devoted primarily to Arabians, they have another location in Simpsonville, KY headed up by TJ Santaferra whose focus is on Saddlebreds. And the Stachowski team? Always growing, always learning and always, it seems, succeeding.

2019 – A BANNER YEAR Starting with the Scottsdale Show and culminating at U.S. Nationals, the farm had a great year on all fronts—breeding, sales, and wins.

“We had a really good year for our clients,” says Jimmy.

At U.S. Nationals, the brothers had memorable wins in all of the English classes, including Jimmy’s spectacular championships in both of the Arabian English Performance Association (AEPA) Futurity classes. In the purebred class, he rode KT Mahalo to a unanimous victory. In the HalfArabian class, he rode Nuttin Buta G Thang to the championship title. Peter took top tens in both classes, on Daniel-San in the Half-Arabian class and Moves Afire WA in the purebred class. Jimmy was also Reserve Champion with Hello Kitty CCF in the Arabian English Pleasure Junior Horse class and Reserve Champion in the Arabian Pleasure Driving class with HA Toskcan Sun.

In the Arabian Country English Pleasure Junior horse class, Jon Ramsay caught rode the 4-yearold Kiss Me Cayte to the National Championship title for her new owner who purchased her from the Farm after the 2018 Nationals. That year, Cayte and Jon won the reserve title in the Arabian County English Futurity. Cayte left the farm in February of this year, but Jon was happy to catch ride her at U.S. Nationals and was very excited with the results.

Not only does the farm excel in the English division, but they are also just as successful in the Hunter Pleasure division. For the second year in a row, Jon Ramsay won the very large and extremely competitive U.S. National Half-Arabian Hunter Pleasure Open Championship with Vertuoso, and Sharon Blendinger was National Champion with a beautiful ride in the Half-Arabian Hunter Pleasure Futurity on Aristotle SLDM.

Those are just a couple of the wins; the other trainers that are part of the Stachowski team and the amateur riders all had a seamless and successful U.S. Nationals. How does that happen?

T H E S TAC H OW S K I M AC H I N E Home to both Arabians and Saddlebreds, the Mantua, Ohio location consists of Jimmy, Peter, Tom Theisen, Sharon Blendinger, Victor Botha, Brian Cutting, Hali West, Brian Chappell (who heads up the Saddlebreds), and Mikey Clark (lesson program). Leah Beth and John Golladay will be joining the team by the end of the year.

Tom Theisen has been part of the Stachowski team in Ohio for two years. “It is one, well-oiled machine,” he says. “It’s like that whether we are at home or at a show. We each have our own string of horses to work and we stay in communication with each other and with Jimmy and Peter on a regular basis.”

What Tom enjoys the most about the Stachowski experience is working in the same arena everyday with a group of top-notch trainers. “For me, it’s super exciting to be with these other trainers. We have multiple breeds, multiple disciplines, multiple trainers, and we can bounce ideas off one another. It’s like you’re at a little horse show everyday. It’s great to have ground people, especially of this caliber.

Having that “little horse show” environment proves beneficial once the Stachowski trained horses get to a show. “When our horses get to the warm-up arena or a show ring, they aren’t going to be bothered by anything,” says Tom. “They’ve seen it all already just being worked here at home.”

With the farm’s successes and highly organized environment, it’s no wonder they attract top talent.

Leah Beth and John are looking forward to joining the team. “We are really excited to be a part of such a successful program. They have great horses, great customers and we are looking forward to the opportunity,” she says. The couple and their two children are in the process of moving from their current location to Ohio.

The California facility is home to trainer Jonathan Ramsay. Part of the team since 2010, he has amassed countless awards for himself and coached a very successful team of amateurs and junior riders. Wyatt Budd will soon join him. Having worked for the Stachowski team before, Wyatt is excited to return. “Jimmy, Peter, Jon ... they are all very motivated, hard-working people,” he says.

“Jimmy always has a carefully thought out plan for everything and it’s the reason everything runs as smooth as it does,” he says. “I’m very happy to be headed back to California.”

Besides amassing a team of talented, well-respected and successful trainers, the Stachowski brothers have an incredible breeding program that has produced champion Arabians, HalfArabians and Saddlebreds.

BREEDING CHAMP IONS Standing at Stachowski Farms are some of the most sought-after stallions in both the Arabian and Saddlebred communities. Notable Arabians standing at the Ohio site include Black Daniels (Noble Express x Victoria Bay), HA Toskcan Sun (Baske Afire x Matoska), SF The Patriot (Allience x Spectra PR), Thee Donald (SF Aftershoc x Ghazis Flaminstar), QH Serengeti (Black Daniels x My Love Song) and VJ Royal Heir (Afires Heir x MA Ghazta Trot).

The Saddlebred stallions include Art of the Deal (Nutcracker’s Nirvana x Use Your Illusion), Noble Braveheart (Callaway’s Northern Kiss x Fort Chiswell’s Retained Assets) and Nutcracker’s Nirvana (Undulata’s Nutcracker x Kingwood’s Harlem Harlem).

With access to the most sought-after Arabians and Saddlebreds in the country, the farm’s breeding program has achieved international success. The Stachowski team is constantly helping breeders in their pursuits. Peter and Jim regularly travel across the country evaluating breeding stock and upcoming youngsters; they are both willing to share the knowledge they have both accumulated over the years to assist breeders in making the best decisions for their programs.

“We have been evaluating, studying and researching bloodlines almost since we started getting serious about riding,” says Jimmy.

Those decades of learning have resulted in the production of countless national champions for their farm and for their customers.

With the show ring successes for themselves and their riders, a successful breeding program and training team, the Stachowski Farms program is like no other.

“I grew up watching them,” Tom says of Jimmy and Peter. “It is kind of cool now, getting to ride with them everyday. I’m still learning from them, and from all of the other trainers. We are a group of people who all like each other. We’re friends who get to ride horses together every day; I don’t know how it could be any better.”

“It’s something to watch,” says Tom. “This entire team and what they accomplish in one day and every day, is amazing. We have the greatest group of caretakers in the industry. It is so organized and that’s the only way it could work. There’s not another model like this out there.

The farm loves for their clients and friends to visit and watch the little horse show that happens every day in both Ohio and California. It’s important to both Peter and Jimmy that their clients get to enjoy their horses and socialize with friends at the farm, because that is what it is all about. They have a great group of clients and everyone roots for the team.
