LETTER FROM OUR HOUSE PRESIDENT Hello, my name is Kaley Meister and I am thrilled to be taking on the role of House Hardey president during my senior year. House Hardey has been the reigning champion of the house program for the past two years, and with the determination my peers show I have no doubt we will come together for another victory this year. We are off to a great start holding the lead for this year and have already spent lots of time bonding with each other. On behalf of all of House Hardey, welcome!

OUR HOUSE MOTHER: MARY ALOYSIA HARDEY Mary Aloysia Hardey was born in Piscataway, Maryland, on December 8, 1809. She attended a Sacred Heart school in Louisiana and entered the novitiate of the Society of the Sacred Heart at Grand Coteau and took the name Aloysia. In 1840, she moved to New York City, opening the first Sacred Heart convent in the eastern United States.

In 27 years, Aloysia Hardey opened 16 houses of the Sacred Heart from Canada to Cuba and through the eastern United States. In 1871, she was named assistant general of the Society of the Sacred Heart, responsible for the houses in North America and the British Empire. Aloysia Hardey died in Paris on June 17, 1886, and she is buried in Albany, New York.

GETTING TO KNOW GOAL 5 In an atmosphere that promotes wise freedom, student and adult members of the Woodlands Academy community grow in courage and confidence as they find new interests, build strengths, learn from past mistakes, and practice resiliency by meeting challenges with the guidance of peers, faculty, and staff. Wise freedom encourages students to strengthen their decision-making skills and grow as students, leaders, and productive members of the global community.

MEET OUR HEAD OF HOUSE Mrs. Dunn One of the founding heads of houses in 2021 Job at Woodlands: Teaches Biology, AP Biology, and Honors Anatomy and Physiology Favorite Thing About the House Program: The joy, pride, and sense of belonging it brings to the students College: Bachelors of Science from John Carroll University and Masters of Education from DePaul University Home Life: I have a one and a half year old son and enjoy going to museums, the lake, and visiting the playground with him and my husband.

ALUMNA SPOTLIGHT Delia Hernandez 2022-23 House President College & Major: Baylor University in Speech Pathology Impact of Hardey After Graduation: Being in college, I have more free time than I had before, and being able to use my knowledge from Goal 5 has been tremendously helpful. Being able to come into college with a firm foundation of respect and integrity has helped me appreciate and strive in college.

Advice for Seniors: STOP STRESSING!!! The most important thing right now is appreciating the little things and time with family.

HARDEY NEWS This year, Hardey looks to getting their third win in the house competition after winning the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years. Since the beginning of the school year, Hardey has welcomed many new community members with open arms and has participated in volleyball, rock paper scissors, and Taylor Swift Trivia in addition to the weekly Wednesday challenges. House Hardey also donated over 180 books to Bernie’s Book Bank and donated items to Lake County Safe Haven. In the coming weeks, we will be participating in a Holiday bake off, donating items for Fill-A-Heart-4-Kids and the Christmas pageant.
