


Image-based abuse (IBA) happens when an intimate image or video is shared without the consent of the person pictured. This includes images or videos that have been digitally altered (using Photoshop or specialised software)
Image based abuse is an important area our students need to be aware of. With the increased prevalence of social media it is more important than ever for you to know the facts about image based abuse – before it is too late It is your responsibility to know the facts
a person’s genital area or anal area (whether bare or covered by underwear)
a person’s breasts (if the person identifies as female, transgender or intersex)
private activity (for example a person undressing, using the bathroom, showering, bathing or engaged in sexual activity)
a person without attire of religious or cultural significance if they would normally wear such attire in public
It is against the law to share or threaten to share intimate images using a phone, internet or postal service, as well as in person
Examples include sharing or threatening to share an intimate image by:
posting it or sharing a post on social media
uploading it to a website photocopying and displaying it in a public place
printing and mailing it to someone, or texting or emailing it to someone
A person under the age of 18 cannot give consent for an intimate image of themselves to be shared WA LAWS
You cannot share an intimate imagemaximum penalty 3 years jail
You cannot threaten to share –maximum penalty is 18 months jail and a fine up to $18000
