It’s one thing ensuring the water is clean and heated to the desired operating temperature, but providing the correct atmosphere outside of the water is an entirely different challenge. Without providing effective dehumidification and ventilation, problems can arise for both users and operators of the facilities, plus potentially, even the fabric of the building itself. One of the most obvious issues is condensation, something which if not dealt with, will ultimately lead to damage of either the décor or even the structure of the building. So it’s essential that an indoor environment should have a well-planned and appropriate dehumidification and ventilation system which will provide comfortable conditions for swimmers, bathers, spectators and staff, plus just as importantly, one that also protects any building too. As you would expect, it’s a specialist area, but thankfully there’s plenty of knowledge, advice and product choices available which will solve numerous operating challenges – regardless of whether it’s under the heading of ‘environmental control’ or just ‘dehumidification’ – and in doing so, will save energy and therefore costs for owners and operators, whilst also ensuring the longevity of the wider installation and its equipment. For the UK swimming pool sector, they currently offer a single style gravity drained compressor model which is available in two sizes. The D850 offers 65 litres maximum extraction using 850W, has two fan speeds with 500m3/hr air volume capacity and operates at 49-51dB. The D950 provides 85 litres maximum extraction using 1,380W, again has two fan speeds with 680m3/hr air volume capacity and operates at 51-53dB. These compact, floor standing units (which should ideally be secured to a wall) have an operating range from 4°C up to a 40°C maximum room temperature. Internally protected for use in swimming pool areas, these energy efficient options offer optimum cooling and compressor operating times based on an internal microprocessor calculation to enhance performance. They feature a built-in humidistat to regulate the humidity level automatically with a range of between 4070%, plus there’s also an optional continuous running mode. Controls are located on the top of each unit and there’s easy access to key parts from the rear cover. These include a simple gas recharge point to top gas levels over the lifetime of the unit, plus two washable air filters, although these should not need replacing for the lifetime of the dehumidifier when handled carefully
