Jonah Schein on the way to re-election At the beginning of May, provincial MP for the New Democrats (NDP), Jonah Schein, launched his campaign for re-election for the parliament of Ontario.

There is a lot of work to be done until election day on June 12, but considering the support that etc&tal could witness during the ceremony of Jonah’s candidacy, it wouldn’t be far fetching to say that victory could be achieved.

The candidate told us about the main challenges he’s had to face as a public figure: “If you get re-elected, will you continue to fight for students to be paid while on co-op programs?”, we asked him. “Absolutely. I can’t comprehend how people are not paid for their work, it is disrespectful and unacceptable”, he pointed out.

as Portuguese and Brazilians. For this section of the population, the MP told us about his efforts on their behalf in securing quality housing, access to education and employment.

Jonah was greeted by many members of the community during the event as well as by other colleagues in politics who talked about his qualities as a leader and human being. Among some of the encouraging words, there was mention of how the Davenport region had been poorly represented at Queens Park until Jonah was first elected and changed things. The work in partnership with federal MP Andrew Cash was also highlighted as a strong benefit to meeting the needs of the region. “What we have proven here in the Davenport region is that team work brings greater results”, said Cash in his speech.

No início de maio, o deputado provincial pelo partido New Democrats (NDP), Jonah Schein, lançou sua campanha de reeleição para o parlamento de Ontário.

Até o pleito do próximo dia 12 de junho, muito trabalho a ser feito. Mas, tendo como base o apoio que a etc&tal magazine presenciou durante a cerimônia, não é exagerar dizer que o objetivo será atingido. À nossa reportagem o candidato enfatizou uma de suas principais lutas como homem público: “Se o senhor for reeleito vai continuar lutando para o pagamento de estudantes em estágios?”, perguntamos. “Com certeza, não consigo entender como as pessoas podem não ser pagas pelo seu trabalho, é uma falta de respeito e inaceitável”, destacou.

A região representada pelo parlamentar no governo de Ontário, leia-se, Davenport, tem uma grande

comunidade de imigrantes, em destaque portugueses e brasileiros. Para essa parcela da população, o deputado destacou o seu trabalho em assegurar moradia de qualidade, acesso à educação e ao emprego.

Durante o evento, Jonah foi saudado por vários membros da comunidade e por outros colegas políticos que ressaltaram suas qualidades como líder e ser humano. Entre as palavras de encorajamento, a lembrança de que a área era mau representada no Queens Park antes de sua primeira eleição.

O trabalho em parceria com o deputado federal Andrew Cash também foi frisado como uma força para tornar realidade as necessidades da região. “O que temos provado aqui na Davenport é que o trabalho de um mais um dá um resultado maior que dois”, discursou Cash.
