For a new year of
love
peace and
In a few days, we will celebrate a new year. We will follow the traditions, we will toast with family and friends the resumption and renewal of hope in the future. But, how practical is it to make 2017 really new? A brief retrospective of the year that is ending and let’s face it: we could have done better. We need to evolve as human beings. From the terrorism that brought sadness to the news to the neglect of life. The selfishness of corrupt politicians and their lack of solidarity. The rush of life that blinds us to look at the other and discover despite the differences that we are all alike. For the new year to be really new we will have to talk less, make fewer speeches, write fewer self-help books, and actually, put our hands on the masses. How about we start with ourselves? Ever thought life is too short and it happens a lot, but, really fast? So do not waste time storing up hurts, shelving frustrations. Go ahead with your mind open. Call that friend or family member you stopped talking to. Take the initiative.
Talk to your neighbor. Join your community. Support the local economy. Buy vegetables at the corner grocery store. Be a volunteer for an important cause for your values. Reject any and all forms of prejudice. Try to understand the way others think, put the shoe on the other foot. Start up a conversation with the person next to you on the subway. If he/she does not want to, keep trying. Discover a physical activity that gives you pleasure. Lend your books to friends. Recycle. Drink plenty of water. Practice love in all its wide scope. Love your neighbor as yourself. Plant real and subjective seeds, have plans and think positive. If in 2017 we can understand once and for all that the blood that runs in the veins of a Jew is the same as that of a Catholic, Protestant or Muslim, the year will be different. Think and practice this idea, for a future of unity and peace.
