The Post Bus for relaxed travel The Post Bus takes you to all of the Appenzellerland villages and hamlets, no matter how small. Every day, with service at least hourly until midnight. Info: postauto.ch Altstätten – Gais line The picturesque cogwheel railway line links the town of Altstätten in the St.Gallen Rhine valley with Gais in Appenzell Ausserrhoden. The alpine foothills surrounding Gais offer the perfect spot for long hikes or Nordic Walking tours. Rorschach – Heiden line Enjoy an exciting ride, even sitting outside in the open car in nice weather, from Lake Constance up to the Biedermeier village of Heiden. Once there, discover the Henry Dunant Museum, or hike the funny Witzweg joke trail to Walzenhausen. Rheineck – Walzenhausen line The over 100-year-old cogwheel train brings you from Rheineck to Walzenhausen. The train ride is one stage of the Adventure Tour on two mountain railways and by boat (summer season) as well as the start and end point of the Witzweg joke trail. St.Gallen – Trogen line Sit back and enjoy the ride, with gorgeous views of St.Gallen, Lake Constance and the Alpstein mountain range. The stations along the way make ideal starting points for hikes in the St.Gallen region. Gossau – Appenzell – Wasserauen and St.Gallen – Gais – Appenzell lines Take a round trip from St.Gallen via Gais to Appenzell and back via Urnäsch and Herisau and discover all that the gentle Appenzeller Hinterland with its rolling hills has to offer.
