Modern ObGyn invites you to our Midwife Meet and Greet By Liz Coleman, CNM, FNP Modern OB/GYN
FREE MIXER!
Midwifery services are becoming increasingly popular across the United States, including Georgia. A Certified Nurse MidLIZ COLEMAN, wife (CNM) is a licensed CNM, FNP healthcare professional specializing in women’s reproductive health and childbirth. CNMs are certified through the American Midwifery Certification Board after completion of a master of science in nursing degree that includes extensive classroom and clinical education. During pregnancy, a woman may choose to see a midwife over a physician because midwifery care focuses on pregnancy and labor as a normal life process rather than a medical condition to be treated. Certified Nurse Midwives develop trusting relationships with patients throughout the pregnancy and empower women to focus on wellness. Midwives encourage women to take greater ownership of their health, their pregnancy and the outcomes of their pregnancy. According to the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM), benefits of midwifery

care during pregnancy include decreased labor induction, augmentation and cesarean rates, reduced rates of regional anesthesia, decreased infant mortality, decreased risk of preterm birth and fewer third and fourth degree tears. ACNM also reports midwifery care increases successful breastfeeding as well as satisfaction with quality of care.
Certified Nurse Midwives traditionally provide care of low risk pregnant patients. However, through collaborative management, midwives are able to continue care for many high risk patients as well. Should a pregnancy become high risk, a midwife will consult supervising physicians, perinatologists and other healthcare professionals and make appropri-
ate referrals as needed. During the labor and delivery process, a backup physician is readily available at all times should the maternal or fetal status necessitate additional assistance or intervention from an obstetrician. Certified Nurse Midwives not only provide care during prenatal visits and childbirth, but also assist women with family planning, annual visits and certain gynecologic problems and concerns. In choosing a midwife, women are choosing personalized women’s healthcare and wellness across their lifetime.

Colletta Italian Food and Wine has been serving up an energetic dining experience in Alpharetta’s Avalon development since 2015. Known for its superb service, the restaurant’s Italian cuisine provides for an outstanding meal, season after season and year after year. Executive chef Jonathan St. Hilaire recently updated his menu for 2020, and Northside Woman was invited to sample his offerings. For our first round, we were served two antipasti — the burrata and the meatballs. The burrata, a mixture of the freshest fresh mozzarella I have ever had, was served with roasted butternut squash, herbs, balsamico, fennel, farro and toasted ciabatta. The meatballs were a combination of beef, veal and pork, served atop polenta mash and finished with San Marzano tomatoes, basil and parmesan. Both starters were delicious, but I have to say the burrata was absolutely fantastic. The combination of flavors and the fresh mozzarella was outstanding. Next, we sampled one of Colletta’s unique pasta dishes, the Black Truffle Agnolotti. The pasta was filled with homemade fontina and hen-of-the-woods mushrooms and finished with parmesan brodo and a truffle butter. The dish was so rich, creamy and flavorful that I’m glad we decided to share it. I was already running out of room, and we had two more courses to go.
For our main course, Lamont Rooker, the general manager, recommended the Wood Grilled Veal Chop and the Roasted Halibut. The veal chop was served with butternut squash, Brussels sprouts and a cranberry mustard compote that really enhanced the flavor of the tender veal. The halibut was served with chickpeas, roasted cauliflower and lemon herb vinaigrette, topped with a caper butter. Both were mouthwatering and cooked to perfection. The variety of flavors in each were delicious and really showcased St. Hilaire’s talents. While we were already very full after our entrees, we couldn’t resist sampling a trio of desserts — the cinnamon sugar Bomboloni doughnuts with chocolate dipping sauce, Warm Chocolate Truffle Cake and The Sinatra, a vanilla bean gelato with white truffle honey and pane fritto. All three were scrumptious, but I think the Warm Chocolate Truffle Cake may well be addicting. From start to finish, our experience at the restaurant was outstanding. Dana, our server, was confident in her knowledge of the food, communicated effectively and took great take care of us. If you’re looking to sample the sublime tastes of Northern Italy or simply want a superb steak, I recommend you check out Colletta for lunch or dinner. — as featured in March 2020 Northside Woman Magazine
