Crabapple shows off spooky pumpkins MILTON, Ga. – About 30 spooky pumpkins lined Crabapple Road outside Scoops ice cream parlor Oct. 27. The fourth annual “Carvin’ in Crabapple” drew dozens of children and their families to paint or carve their own cute, scary or otherworldly gourds. Each pumpkin was entered into a contest to win gifts from the surrounding merchants. Children first started across the street at Just for Giggles painting studio, where they sat at long tables and painted or carved their pumpkins. Then everyone moved outside Scoops for the judging. MILTON, Ga. – Milton’s first library has a name – “The Milton Library.” The library will sit on two acres of land at the corner of Charlotte Drive and Mayfield Road on the historic Dinsmore Farm. The property was chosen in part because of its proximity to several schools and its road visibility. Once the location was selected, designs were drawn up and community input was requested. The completed design was revealed to the public in March 2013. As requested by the community, the design maintained some characteristics of the Dinsmore Farm. The next step was to name the library. A naming committee was formed with six members selected from the city and the

library board. The committee briefly discussed if the name should represent the Dinsmore family, the previous owners of the property. However, it was decided that the name of the library should represent the community at large. “We really just wanted to reflect the community of Milton,” said Councilmember Matt Kunz, a member of the naming committee. “It’s something that we’re very proud of and we wanted to make sure there was a focal point of our local character, and what better way than to name it Milton.” Councilmember Bill Lusk, another committee member, said it was proposed that a room inside the library be named after the Dinsmore family but it was a unani-

ROSWELL, Ga. – The Roswell Police Department has made an arrest of a man suspected of breaking into a Roswell home and fighting with the resident. When he ran from police, nearby schools were put on lockdown. The home invasion occurred Oct. 18 on Hembree Grove Overlook about 9 a.m. The suspect, Robert Earl Foster Jr., 27, who is homeless, allegedly broke into the home from the rear and surprised the resident, who was home.

Foster was wearing a mask and armed with a knife. The pair got into a fight, leaving both injured. Roswell Police SpokesFOSTER woman Lisa Holland said the homeowner barricaded himself in a bedroom, however Foster managed to break in and tie up the resident. “Most burglars do not want a confrontation in the house,” Holland said. “Yet he did stay

and scuffle with the homeowner.” Foster fled after taking jewelry from the home. The victim managed to break free of his bonds and call 911, leading to a manhunt and local schools going on lockdown. On Oct. 28, a Roswell officer ran into Foster, who Holland said was noticed for the wounds on him that were consistent with what the victim claimed happened. The officer tracked Foster to a nearby extended stay hotel and arrested Foster on charges of burglary, aggravated battery, aggravated assault,

false imprisonment and theft by taking. He also had warrants for his arrest out of Cobb County. Holland said evidence of Foster’s crime was found in his room. Holland said, since the crime, the department’s phones have fielded dozens of calls from concerned people asking if a suspect had been found and offering tips on suspects. “It was the victim’s great description of [Foster] along with good police work that caught him,” said Holland. “I’m excited and proud of our officers. They were great.”

Watches, pistol taken from home MILTON, Ga. – Several watches and a pistol were reported stolen from a Creek Club Drive home Oct. 25. The victims told police they left the home locked but without an alarm at 4 p.m. and returned a little over an hour later. They found the rear door forced open. A search of the home showed four watches – valued between $200 and $4,300 – were missing along with a Walther PPK pistol that was in a lockbox beside a bed. Neighbors reported seeing an elderly couple knocking on the door a little after the residents said they left.

Going from frying pan to fire ALPHARETTA, Ga. – After allegedly trying to steal a frying pan by hiding it in her purse, a Lithonia woman was arrested for shoplifting Oct. 20. Employees of the HomeGoods store on North Point Parkway told police they

saw Christine Webb, 44, of Lithonia, pick out a $130 copper frying pan and several picture frames and attempt to conceal them in her purse. She then left the store. Webb was arrested for shoplifting.

Man takes child seats, rides MARTA MILTON, Ga. – A 30-year-old Atlanta man was arrested Oct. 22 after allegedly stealing two car seats from Walmart and using MARTA to get away. Store employees told police they saw David Ehren Heard, 30, of Atlanta, pick out two child car seats, each valued at $40, and leave the store without paying for them. He was followed to the MARTA bus stop near the McDonald’s restaurant and got on the bus. Police stopped the bus as it turned onto Ga. 9, found Heard and arrested him. Heard was charged with shoplifting. He also had a warrant for his arrest from Dunwoody.

DUI driver accused of driving wrong way ALPHARETTA, Ga. – A Milton man was arrested Oct. 20 on Old Milton Parkway for DUI after he was allegedly seen driving on the wrong side of the road. Police spotted Beau A. Miears, 21, of Deer Trail, Milton, pull out of the Alpharetta Square shopping center on Haynes Bridge Road and turn onto Old Milton Parkway in the wrong lane. He was pulled over and allegedly failed sobriety tests. Miears was charged with DUI and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Bethany work worries residents New roads, neighborhoods going in By JONATHAN COPSEY jonathan@northfulton.com MILTON, Ga. – Anyone traveling on Bethany Road in the past few weeks may have noticed some construction, in the form of road resurfacing. Residents on Bethany claim they were never told such heavy construction was happening. Construction began in midOctober and is to resurface Bethany from Providence Road down to Mayfield Road. It is scheduled to be finished Nov. 15. “Bethany is a full-depth reclamation project,” said Milton Public Works Director Carter Lucas. Residents along Bethany were concerned and surprised when construction began. They say colored flags began popping up on their lawns without explanation, leading to concerns the road would be significantly widened. Debbie Mooney, who has

lived on Bethany Road for 19 years, said it was a surprise when construction began. “It’s a frustrating situation. We’re right on the line of Alpharetta and Milton,” Mooney said. “I’m not aware of anything going on until it happens.” Specifically, she noted the new developments going in south of Mayfield Road, which is in Alpharetta. Because Mooney lives in Milton, she said there is little cross-city communication when it comes to zoning and projects.

What roadways will Milton work on next? With winter coming soon, Milton Public Works Director Carter Lucas said work is winding down and will pick up again in spring. Other long-term, projects, such as the Hopewell-Francis-Cogburn roads roundabout, Birmingham Highway at Providence/New Providence roundabout, Arnold Mill Road at New Providence improvements and Deerfield at Morris improvements are all under construction. “If a rezoning notice appeared on Ruth’s Farm [at Mayfield and Bethany roads], we would have attended those meetings,” Mooney said. “We weren’t given any notice there was going to be anything there.” Alpharetta Deputy City Administrator James Drinkard said there was no zoning hearing on Ruth’s Farm because the property was already zoned for such a use. Lucas said Bethany Road will only be slightly widened – 1-2 feet on each side, and is

still within the city’s right-ofway. “For these projects, we do add additional lane width to bring the roads up closer to current lane width standards to help with public safety and edge of pavement issues,” Lucas said. “Final road surface will be 23 feet, which is approximately 1-2 feet wider than the previous road surface but still narrower than standard 12-foot lanes. It is the same as we have been doing for the last few years.”

Milton to open Freedom Park Nov. 11 Ceremony includes veterans raising service flags MILTON, Ga. – Milton is opening another great park – and this time it’s honoring our nation’s heroes. The first and only festival of its kind in the Atlanta area, the event will bring in over 20 artists from around the Southeast to perform their hits. “Alpharetta is becoming known for its music scene and festivals filled with lively entertainment,” said Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle. “People love music, and this new event brings together great musicians who not only wrote the songs they will perform but have stories to share about the song’s history. The Giving Foundation raises money for canines Charity events help special needs people By JONATHAN COPSEY jonathan@northfulton.com MILTON, Ga. – Canine Assistants, of Milton, was the recipient of the Giving Foundation’s annual Tee It Up charity golf outing Oct. 22 and charity auction gala Oct. 26. Canine Assistants is one of the nation’s top centers for training dogs for use as companions for people with mobility and medical issues. All dogs are offered free of charge to the recipients. The service dogs open/close doors, turn lights on/off, retrieve dropped items, pull wheelchairs and a myriad of other cues. “It was a success,” said Frances Rosemeyer, director of the Giving Foundation. She said feedback from the events was excellent this year, both for the amount of items up for auction and for the venue, The Manor Country Club. She said about 100 people attended the golf outing and 250 came to the auction. The total amount of money raised is still being counted. Started 17 years ago, the Giving Foundation is an Alpharetta-based nonprofit that is committed to making positive changes in the lives of children and adults with special needs. Every year, it holds the Tee It Up golf outing and charity gala, the proceeds from which goes to a chosen charity. For the past several years, Canine Assistants has been the chosen charity. “It feels right to me,” said Rose-

Quilters donate bags to Drake House Chattahoochee Evening Stars sew for single moms in need By HATCHER HURD hatcher@northfulton.com ROSWELL, Ga. – They come from Alpharetta, they come from Johns Creek, they come from Roswell and they come from Cumming just to do one of the things they love most. Sew. They’re the Chattahoochee Evening Stars Quilt Guild, and they love to make quilts, learn about quilting and put on their annual show. But they also care about their community. And one way these ladies (and yes, one guy) do it is by handstitching tote bags for the mothers at the Drake House in Roswell. The Drake House is a nonprofit dedicated to helping single mothers who are homeless get back on their feet. For those who qualify – no alcohol or drugs, working or actively looking for work, no boyfriends about – it is a chance to sta-

bilize their lives, get working again and save some money to move into a place of one’s own. For the Evening Stars ladies, it is a chance for the guild to do something for the community, said Evening Stars Program Chairwoman Sharon Bessom. So they took on the task of sewing up 65 tote bags made of upholstery material and lined with cotton inside. Each gaily patterned bag is filled with items for the mothers such as pocket umbrellas, a sewing kit (of course), a letter-size notebook, hand sanitizer and other knickknacks. “One of our goals was that each bag be different, so that they are all individual,” Bessom said. “Then we put ourselves in a woman’s shoes and ask ourselves what we would want to see in one of these bags. It’s a cause that is near and dear to us.”

Gibbs Gardens’ spectacular Seasons of Color

For Drake House volunteer and Resource Coordinator Lynn Canty, these bags make a wonderful greeting gift for the moms who are lucky enough to qualify for one of 15 apartments that make up the Drake House program. “It’s a keepsake for them that shows people gave of their time,” Canty said. “It’s a message from the community that people care about them.” Considering they are handmade, along with the materials that come with them and the labor that goes into the bags, Canty put a value of at least $100 a piece on the bags. The Drake House can house up to 15 families with an on-site resident manager. It has a step-by-step program to get families counseling, get mothers working and get them into a place of their own with money in the bank and transportation to get to work. Meanwhile, children remain in whatever school they have been attending, so that there is as little social interruption as possible. “This not a religious organization, but it is based on Judeo-Christian values. We have great support from the faith community, and we are community-based,” said Canty.

Historic night for Lady Paladins FCS makes first trip to state tournament ROSWELL, Ga. – The Fellowship Christian School varsity volleyball team defeated King’s Ridge Christian School and Pinecrest Academy in the AREA volleyball tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 8 to advance to the AREA championship game and earn the school’s first-ever trip to the state volleyball tournament. The Lady Paladins downed King’s Ridge 25-11 in the first set and 25-21 in the second set. “It was a great night for the Lady Paladins,” head coach Leah Smith said. “With a rough start against King’s Ridge, we battled back and still pulled out the victory. We came out very strong against Pinecrest and won in three sets.” FCS beat Pinecrest 25-11 in the first set, but dropped the second 22-25. The Lady Paladins posted a 25-19 third-set victory. “This is our first time to state, so it is a great accomplishment,” Smith said. “It

was a big night for the Lady Paladins.” Fellowship entered the AREA tournament seeded second among the eight teams to qualify for the tourney. It’s the first time the school has earned the right to host the tournament since joining the GHSA. Fellowship (7-1 in AREA matches this season) was the ninth-ranked team among all Single-A schools in the latest poll. “They have done an awesome job this season,” Smith said. “We have played very well as a team. They are a bunch of scrappy and attacking players who are mentally sharp. We have been ranked seventh through 10th in the state all year.” The head coach noted that Shelby Villar is “hands down our MVP” this season. “She hits the ball with power, and can dig anything out,” Smith said. “A.J. Baumann has also been a key contributor. They have been our leaders, but it’s really been a team effort. Our setters this year have shown a lot of hustle and determination, and have been the backbone for our hitters.”

Cross Country, disc golf at odds over course Petition to stop course urges compromise BY CANDY WAYLOCK candy@northfulton.com MILTON, Ga. – It appears likely cross country runners and aficionados of disc golf may coexist on the Milton High School cross country trail, after a meeting last week brought all sides together. More than 1,100 people signed a petition asking officials with Milton High School to stop plans for a disc golf course to be located near the site of the popular running trail used by the Milton High Cross Country Club. The petition cited concerns over safety, security and environmental damage to the trail. However, during an Oct. 30 meeting called by Milton Principal Cliff Jones, many issues were resolved and members of the Milton Cross Country Booster Club left satisfied their concerns would be considered moving forward. “Overall, the [booster team] board members believe the meeting was successful,” said Joe McGorry, copresident of the Milton Cross Country Booster Club. “An environment for open dialogue was initiated and a plan for a collaborative course design was created. While there is still work to do…Mr. Jones and the disc designer demonstrated a spirit of cooperation that was constructive and sincere.” Milton school officials are considering a request from the Milton Ultimate Frisbee Club to install 12 disc golf baskets along the running trail to connect the course with the six

baskets in place across the street at Northwestern Middle School. The additional baskets would create an official 18-hole course. While the trail is owned by the Fulton County Board of Education (FCBOE), cross country boosters say they have poured thousands of dollars and manpower hours into the course over the past eight years. “This is a beautiful trail behind the high school, which is used not only by the Milton cross country team, but other Milton teams, other public and private high school cross country teams, Alpha Crush running club, community runners, walkers, dog walkers and nature lovers,” said Milton parent Wendy Butzer. She noted the trail was developed in 2005 without school or county funding and has been maintained through the years by volunteers. The booster club was unaware, she said, of the plans to add disc golf baskets along the trail until a few weeks ago. Jones said the school received a request last spring from the school’s disc golf club to expand the course, and believed talks were held with representatives of the cross country team at that time. However, he recently received a letter from the cross country team, which indicated many members of the booster club may have been unaware of the plans. “The Cross Country Booster Club [recently] dropped off a letter of concern in regards to the potential sharing of the cross country trail,” said Jones. “The thoughtful and thorough letter raised many questions. Ultimately, these questions will need to be answered before moving forward.” After last week’s meeting,

both sides agreed miscommunication was the source of the conflict and agreed to work together for a resolution. Jones noted the mission of Milton High School is to provide opportunities for extracurricular activities for all students, and school resources are for the enjoyment of all. “Just as the school supports the cross country boosters in their support of their children’s pursuits, the administration supports the expansion of disc golf on Milton’s campus,” said Jones. [However] this does not mean that we support the current plan for its expansion.” The cross country team has a current roster of 118 students. About 30 students are involved in the disc golf club. During last week’s meeting, booster club members left confident they would have a seat at the table as decisions are made regarding the trail. “[Principal] Jones [said] the cross country team will have direct input into the selection of [basket] locations – with the goal that the hole locations and any trail running will have minimum ‘cross curricular’ activity,” said McGorry, in summarizing the meeting. The course would be reserved for high school players, and availability would be subject to the schedule of the cross country team. Disc golf, officially known as Ultimate Frisbee, has become a popular sport nationwide since first being introduced on college campuses in the late 1960s. There are now more than 12,000 student athletes playing on more than 700 college teams in North America, however the sport does not have NCAA status.

Attire to Hire offers ‘interview-ready’ apparel Job seekers get free clothes By CAITLIN WAGENSEIL caitlin@northfulton.com ROSWELL, Ga. – Those who came out to the mini job fair at Roswell United Methodist Church on Monday, Oct. 28, know there’s only one chance to make a good first impression – which is why they took full advantage of the church’s job networking service called Attire to Hire. Launched in April 2011 by Donna Litton, the RUMC job networking service offers job seekers the chance to find professional, interview-ready attire free of price. The clothes are donated to the church and include women’s dresses, blouses, skirts and purses, along with men’s suits, ties, belts and dress shoes. “I felt it was a true need to have something like this, and it’s been so much fun so far,” Litton said. After serving 132 clients its first year, the service outfitted its 1,000th customer on Monday. Wanda Cleveland, the 1,000th client, said she was thankful for her new clothes. Cleveland, who had been working at McDonald’s, said she knew she could do better for herself, which was why she came out to the job fair. “I’m a good team player and a fast learner,” she said. “I pay my rent, I pay my bills, but I don’t have the money for much else. I’m very appreciative of what I’ve gotten tonight and I feel good.” Multiple women volunteer at Attire to Hire and have made it their mission to interact and help those in their job search. One of those volunteers, Julie Mizer, said it’s important to make the customers feel like they’re shopping in an actual boutique. “We give everyone a plastic shopping bag and give them time to look around,” Mizer said. “And we try to be sensitive to where they’re at in their job search. But it’s not just about picking out the right outfit – it’s also a motivational thing. When people feel good about themselves and are dressed appropriately, it absolutely shows in an interview.” Another volunteer, Lynn Schryer, said her favorite part about working with the service is finding the right outfit for someone and watching how excited they get. “Sometimes you can just see it in their eyes. They’re so happy to have an opportunity to look good and make a change in their life,” she said.

Dunkin’ Donuts opens 100th location Alpharetta chosen for rapid growth By ALDO NAHED aldo@forsythherald.com ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The latest Alpharetta Dunkin’ Donuts in south Forsyth County marked the metro Atlanta market’s 100th location to open, 6020 Atlanta Highway and McFarland Parkway. For Stephen Attard and James Laskaris, who are the largest franchisees in the area with 20 locations, there’s plenty more to come. Another Cumming location is planned for Peachtree Parkway in December and one is in the works in Dawsonville next month. “It’s a big stepping stone for

We have a lot more growth coming on,” said Attard, who started in the Dunkin Brand eight years ago. “We’re happy to be here.” This marks the 120th store in the state. Home value trend in Forsyth County It’s that time of year when we see the seasonal shift in real estate. Both the number of sales and the average sale price tends to dip in fall and winter and then rise in spring and summer. The recovery in our local housing market has been pretty solid and while we see these seasonal trends, the long-term outlook remains stable. Aside from the seasonal dip, home values have increased over the past three years and the chart below reflects that slow and steady climb in the average sales price. The rise was spurred predominantly from the overconsumption of distressed

sales by institutional investors. These hedge funds and investment firms purchasing not only off the courthouse steps but also on the open market drove distressed inventory down drastically while driving their sales prices up. When those inventories started to dry up, they then pursued non-distressed resales. As inventory levels

declined drastically, bidding became more competitive, driving prices up further. Predictions are for continued improvement in housing nationally through 2014 with most markets remaining in a seller’s market and prices increasing around 5 percent on average. While locally we can expect to see a significant increase in new home construction next year, inventory levels will still remain relatively low. Interest rates are expected to remain in the 4 percent range for most of next year. Values will continue to rise in a moderate and healthy way putting more sellers in a position to sell who haven’t been previously.

When selling a home, what you don’t know can hurt you! By EVE JONES, Harry Norman Realtors So, you are ready to list your home for sale and you start by consulting with an agent or two. You may be tempted to use an agent who offers a discount commission,

but is that the smart choice for selling your home. First off, your agent, who has so generously decided to take a cut in their commission, may be cutting the other agent’s commission too! For instance, your agent has contracted to sell your home at 5%, but are they still offering the sell-

ing (buyer’s) agent 3%? Or, are they offering only a 2.5% commission? Why would you care about what that other agent makes? Well, because your home listing is competing against others that may be offering a fee of 3% or higher. How motivated will that buyer’s agent be to recommend

So, step one: confirm the “co-op fee” in writing by asking to see the agents’ listing sheet. Step two: determine how your agent is presenting your home to the market? Are they marketing your property in the most positive light? Have you ever looked at home listings on-line and had a good laugh at the photos? It never ceases to amaze me how many really, really bad photos (and typos for that matter) are out there.

Bad photos will discourage showings and interest. Make sure your agent emails your listing once it is live, so you can see for yourself how your home looks and intermittently, go out on-line and check on it. Lastly, be sure to confirm that your listing agent is a fulltime Realtor. In real estate, time is of the essence which means access to your agent is critical. Your agent needs to be available full-time throughout the transaction to best represent you and your home.

Interstate Moves: Avoiding “Potholes” Along The Way (NAPS)—Moving across town or to a different city in-state is complicated enough, but when your move crosses state lines, it’s a whole new ball game. Here are a few things to consider. Regulation and Protection Interstate moves are regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The agency protects consumers from fraud by ensuring that moving companies meet licensing and registration requirements, comply with rules on estimates and the release of goods, and educate consumers on their rights and responsibilities. Be sure to check insurance, and be certain you understand how much liability coverage you’re agreeing to. Basic coverage is 60 cents a pound, so you’d get only $6 for a 10-pound microwave. You should be aware that part of your interstate move may be subcontracted to another company. This means the company that loads your goods may not be the same company that unloads them at your destination.

Don’t make a move, especially to another state, until you’ve planned it all out properly. Ship Smart Most local moves are charged on an hourly basis, but interstate moves are charged either by the weight of the shipment or the cubic volume of goods being transported. Adding a few extra boxes can translate into big added costs. If you have a piece of furniture you plan to replace, or one that’s bulky but inexpensive, it may be wise to toss or donate it.

Also, remember, your goods will likely be in storage for a certain amount of time. No food should be part of that shipment, including canned food, unopened packaged goods, pet food, and spices. a part of homecoming week in the county. “It used to be just around graduation, but now it’s happening in the fall, too,” he said. “And it’s lasted two weeks instead of just the one.” One resident who asked to remain anonymous said the mess was over the top. “It’s an absolute mess,” she said. “I woke up this morning to my driveway and yard completely trashed.” The resident said there were 24 rolls of toilet paper, several boxes of feminine hygiene products, cotton balls, raw meat, yogurt, syrup, cereals, shaving cream and animal shavings spread throughout her yard, and the driveway was spray painted. “I’m not sure that will come off,” she said. She said she and her son spent two hours cleaning before leaving for the day. “We’re still not even close to done,” she said.

Another Cumming resident experienced similar problems, but declined to be interviewed. “We don’t want our child to suffer if our names are in the paper,” the resident said. Rainwater said they caught 23 kids in the Dressage subdivision located in South Forsyth last week. “We asked the owner who called if they wanted to prosecute, but they declined,” he said. He said most calls don’t result in charges. “The charge would be criminal trespassing, and that takes about six months to come to trial,” Rainwater said. “Parents don’t want to subject their children to being in school with kids they’ve brought charges against.” Rainwater said most often the prank consists of just toilet paper, but others have it worse. “About 85 percent of the kids just toilet paper,” he said. “But the other 15 percent cause more damage.” Rainwater said those are

the kids that will eventually end up doing jail time at some point in their lives. “The kids that take it to the next level, that aren’t satisfied with just the toilet paper,

17-year-old Chase Elliott chases NASCAR dream King’s Ridge senior wins NASCAR Truck Series race By HATCHER HURD hatcher@northfulton.com ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Like most 17-year-olds, Chase Elliott is anxious to get the car keys on the weekends, but the keys he wants start up a NASCAR engine. Elliott just won his first NASCAR Truck Series race Sept. 1 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Ontario, Canada in just his sixth series start. Driving the No. 94 Dream Machine, he also became the youngest winner in the NASCAR Truck Series history. The King’s Ridge Christian School student signed a development deal with Hendrick Motorsports to run in NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series East. If he keeps winning, he will certainly earn a ride at the big tracks one day. So how does a teenager break into the NASCAR business the way Chase has? Well, you could say it is in his DNA. He is the son of NASCAR legend Bill Elliott so when Chase went to see his dad at work, it was at a race track. But Chase realizes names don’t win races. “People say it should be easier because of who my dad is. But it is not his career. It is still up to me to learn from him and improve. Ultimately though, I have to make it on my own,” Chase said. Racing has changed a lot

in the last five or six years as technology has revolutionized the sport. Just think of how the smartphone has changed in that time. The same is true of racing technology. It has added to the racing team as well. You have to have people who can monitor the sensors and computers and an engineer to keep the engine purring. None of that fazes Chase, however. This is going to be his career if he can make the grade. “I’ve never really wanted to

He graduated to quarter-midgets, and then got into Legends racing when he was older still. This is racing in 5/8 scale cars that look like racers from the 1930s and ’40s. It keeps the costs and the speed down but teaches young drivers the ins and outs of winning races. By the time he was 13, he was racing full-sized cars. Now he is racing in the Truck Series, which is analogous to baseball’s minor leagues. It’s exciting because the next step is racing with the big-name drivers, big-time sponsors and

If I don’t get picked up, I’ll apply to some colleges. But that is for later,” he said. In his first win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, it was a two-truck duel going into the last lap with Ty Dillon. He pulled even with Dillon, but Dillon had the inside track and Chase had to go wide in the next turn. Drafting behind Dillon, in the final turn he shot around to the inside. There’s a saying in NASCAR – “if you’re not

rubbin’, you’re not racin’.” That means to win you have to be willing to let some paint fly and hold your position. Dillon moved to cut off Chase and Chase did not hesitate. He hit Dillon’s rear end and spun him into the tires and held on the capture the checkered flag. After the race, he told the ESPN announcer: “That’s not how I race, and that’s never been how I’ve raced before. I had a shot. I was up next to Ty and I knew he was going to try and chop me off. I tried to make up the difference. Sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to get to Victory Lane.” Spoken like an Elliott.

Alpharetta Police Department spokesman George Gordon said his city doesn’t have an issue during the fall season but does experience problems before graduation. “Our biggest concern is the underage drinking,” he said. “It tends to go along with the toilet papering.” Gordon said there are homes that experience more damage, but the department works closely with the schools to keep the activities to a minimum. The barn will provide extra space on the premises and will add to the characteristics of the farm the community would like to preserve. “We have a lot of people contributing in small ways to the whole,” said Kunz. “It’s a fun thing to be a part of. “The way I understand it all we need to do now [that the library is named] is get it built,” said Kunz. He said construction had been pushed back to begin January 2014 with just over a year of expected construction time.
