WANGANUI POP-UP WEDDINGS

My Services and costs I offer two packages:

What is a Pop Up wedding and why should you consider one? Pop-up weddings truly are perfect for couples who simply don’t have the cash to pull out all the stops on their wedding day. They are also ideal for couples with other priorities, such as travel. Some pop-up weddings are like fancy elopements with no guests. You decide the venue. I supply a creative photographer, an amazing hair stylist and a beautiful bouquet and, of course, an awesome celebrant (being me) so in under an hour you can have your dream wedding with no fuss, no stress and a few guests.

My name is Karen Goodge. I am Wanganui based but have travelled as far as Hamilton and Martinborough to perform weddings. I advocate for Same Sex Weddings and alternative, as well as conventional, weddings. My idea for Pop Up weddings came out of working with couples on a limited budget but still deserving of a day they will remember. After all, "Weddings and marriage are not all about how much you spent but how you spent your special day and who you spent it with".

The basic package includes my services as Celebrant, the choice from 3 set ceremonies and 30 photographs of your choice taken by my very talented photographer. The second package includes my services, the choice from 3 set ceremonies, the choice of 30 photographs, your hair styled by my very creative stylist and a beautiful bouquet. Cost of basic package is $600.00 Cost of second package is $800.00

Mileage is also charged depending on location and distance from Whanganui and all costs must be paid in full prior to the wedding day.

Your role All you have to do is turn up at an agreed location and time with at least 2 witnesses, a current Marriage Licence naming me as the Celebrant and the location of the wedding. Suitable ID and that's it!! (and of course your rings!)

Choosing Your Dress

W

ith hundreds of wedding dress styles to choose from, online and in stores, how do you pick just one wedding dress for your special day? The first thing to do is decide on how you want to look and feel on the day. Do you want to look sexy, understated,

modern, chic, vintage or traditional? Once you decide this finding your dress will be much easier. Then take time to browse online and in magazines and note the gowns that you like. Visit a bridal gown specialist and try on several gowns.

The key here is to keep an open mind and try on several gowns and styles. Make sure you test how comfortable a prospective gown is by moving around in it — sit down, dance, and walk up and down the store aisles. In the end, choose the dress that feels right for you.

Churchwood Bridal

A

t Churchwood Bridal our stunning and elegant designer gown selection ranges in style, size and price to suit every bride. Our friendly and experienced team of consultants can’t wait to help you find the dress of your dreams. Please call us on 06 757 5503 to arrange your consultation.

You should feel beautiful and confident in your wedding gown; only you can make the right choice.

W

hen searching for your wedding venue, there are essential questions to be answered: • Is the date available that you require? • What’s the decor like? • Does it fit your wedding style? • Will you have to spend a lot of money on flowers and decorations to make it beautiful? • Is there an in-house caterer and do you like that type of food? • Is there a limit to which caterer you can use? • Are there adequate bathroom facilities? • Is there a liquor licence and will you be allowed to bring your own?

• What’s the cancellation policy? • Is there a payment schedule? • What deposit is required to hold the booking? • Are there any hidden costs? • Before you sign the contract, Read it carefully (read the fine print). What are the overtime charges? • Is there a room for a band and/or dancing? • Does the venue have a sound system? • Where will you take photographs? • Who will be supervising and troubleshooting on the day of your wedding? • Is there accommodation nearby for guests?

Choosing Your

Wedding Party: From Bridesmaids To Ushers

Y

ou’ve already picked your spouse, now you have to pick the next most important people for your wedding: Your bridal party. These are the attendants that include your maid of honour, best man, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer, and ushers. For some people, the choice of who to ask is easy. You just ask your best friends and your closest family members. Done! For others, the choice is a little harder. Should it be your best friend from high school or your best friend of a few years? Should your cousin or your close friend fill out that last bridesmaid slot?

What’s important is that you include those people to whom you feel closest and who you know are going to support you on your big day. Typically, the most important positions go to the most important people in your life. You can save some of the jobs like ushers for younger brothers or sisters, cousins, and other relatives or friends who aren’t incredibly close but are still important. Take your time and think twice before you ask. Once you’ve asked someone to be in your wedding party, you can’t go back. So while it may be tempting to ask all of your favourite friends

to be in your wedding party the minute you get engaged, don’t. Take your time. Give yourself at least a month, if you can, to mull over the options. Then ask yourself this question: Will I be just as close to this person in five years as I am now? Being in a bridal party is about more than putting on fancy clothes and being able to walk down the aisle. It can involve a fair amount of responsibility and expense so make sure all participants know up front what you are expecting of them and name your attendants soon after you choose a date so they have ample time to plan.

Having a smaller bridal party may make it easier since you can focus on the most important relationships in your life. Having a larger bridal party may make it easier since you have more slots to fill and can ask more people to be a part of your special day. Just make sure that the number of attendants works in proportion to the number of guests.

Wedding Guide 2017

The Reception Venue A large portion of your budget will be allocated to your reception so the choice of venue needs careful thought. You’ll have an idea of your theme by now, which should guide your decision on the reception venue.

Think about the closeness of the reception venue to the ceremony (they may be the same place of course), the time of day, type of food and entertainment you would like. Would you like a formal sit down meal with table service or a buffet which might be less expensive or will you hire caterers? Wanganui’s fortunate to have a great selection of hotels, restaurants, lodges and historic homesteads, function

centres, gardens, clubs, halls for hire and marquee hire.

When you visit your shortlisted reception venues check what is included in the price per head. The functions team will provide you advice on how much alcohol to order per head for toasts, during your meal, etc. If you’re on a tight budget ask if you are able to take your own alcohol. Decide on whether there will be a cash bar and make the arrangements clear to your guests in the invitation to save embarrassment. It is normal practice to provide beer and wine, but drinks such as spirits can be expensive. If you are hiring a marquee you may need to factor in

hire of wedding furniture, crockery, glassware, table linen, toilets, lighting, heating, flooring, tables and chairs. There are local hire companies offering everything from vases to chair covers, candelabras and more. If it’s a large wedding with a formal meal you’ll need a seating plan. Traditionally the bride and groom and close family sit at the top table.

Try and group people on tables according to whether they are friends or relatives and take into account any family feuds. You don’t want to waste much time having people find their seats so you could number the tables or give them names somehow related to your theme. Post a plan at the entrance to the reception so guests can check where they are sitting beforehand and use personal name tags to help your guests find their seats.

t’s true when they say that of all the money you spend on your wedding, your photos are the one thing you’ll still be showing off years from now. store experience to discover your perfect look, regardless of age, shape or size.” 17 The Square, Palmerston North Ph: 06 359 1390 www.magazineclothing.co.nz

First and foremost, you need to feel confidence in the photographer you choose. You’ll only get one chance to record this special day so look for someone you get along with, who is qualified and with experience to avoid disappointment.

It helps to make a shortlist of photographers whose work you like. Ask yourself - is their style and quality something I can envision for my own wedding day? Once you’ve whittled down your list to two or three, take the opportunity to talk to them about what they offer. Tell them about your wedding day plans and dreams and ask about how they can accommodate you. If offered written information, take it home and do some comparisons. And don’t be afraid to talk to them again if you have anything you’re not sure of, most wedding photographers are more than happy to help you make the informed choice that’s right for you.

y aim is to fulfill every brides dream of an everlasting, non wilting, allergy free bouquet especially to make her day as special and memorable as possible.

Each bouquet is designed to cater for the bride and the bridesmaids choices in colour and design. In this way every design is unique to each wedding event. All flowers are created using satin or velvet ribbon as well as satin and chiffon fabric. Every flower can have a pearl or rhinestone brooch in the centre of the flower, but they also do not need to have these. Pearl or rhinestone brooches can decorate over the flowers or across the top

Table Decorations Completing the "Wedding of your dreams" is to ensure your wedding table decorations have the WOW factor!

I of the bouquet. A bouquet can be any combination or mix of colours and any size. Corsages for the Groom and Groomsmen can be pocket designs on cards or a corsage in ribbon or beads as well as headbands can be made to match the wedding colours. Individual corsages can be created in other colours for the mother and mother-in-law of the bride and groom. Brides can also have hair flowers or wrist bouquet.

t is probably one of the last things that you are thinking about as you are rushing around booking venues, buying your dress, hiring suits, organising the bridesmaids and groomsmen, etc. However dressing your table completes the theme for your wedding. White linen still holds strongly on the dressing the table front, there is nothing like crisp white linen. It is also carried through with white chair covers adorned with beautiful coloured sashes, that match the colour theme of your wedding.

Centre-pieces, vases and candelabras make a beautiful setting for any wedding table. Organza and strings of crystals are also very popular, especially on the main bridal table. The crystals will twinkle and draw the attention to the head table. The most important part is to be consistent with your theme and style of Wedding — for example if you are having a beach styled wedding, you may wish to add a little more of a nautical feel. look, as will the candelabras. If you are going for a bold dramatic look, then follow this theme through in your table pieces. It is also nice to finish off your look with a small token of thanks to your guests. A little thank you note next to the guests name cards is a special touch and shows a sign of appreciation to the guests for them attending your special day. Another way to show your appreciation is by having little heart shaped chocolates, a little gift box — or something small that represents your special day!

Choosing the right attire for your Men

T

here can be so many factors to take into consideration. From making your bride to be & Whanau happy. Then there could be a style of wedding, colour schemes, themes, locations. But at the end of the day most importantly you must be comfortably you.

Historically ‘Mourning tails’ were worn to both funerals & weddings. The look was made popular by the English gentry & remains popular today for more traditional weddings. This has made Black the most popular colour for kiwi weddings. Either as a plain suit or more formal as a tuxedo ‘black tie’ look. In fact, Richie McCaw & his grooms party opted for this more formal attire. If a traditional look is not for you, then coloured suits are a more modern option. Blue, Navy & shades of grey are always popular. White and ‘Ocean Blue’ seem

to be the colour for the 2017/2018 wedding season. Just be mindful though that white can be quite blinding. However, if it’s mixed with an alternate coloured trouser it will be less harsh. There is no definitive wedding etiquette when choosing, how to dress your grooms party. It really does come down to personal choice. Historically all the men in the groom’s party are dressed the same, however a contemporary look is to have the groomsmen slightly different. Differentiated by the jacket, waistcoat or tie. Or the party dressed similarly in different shades.

Wedding

Vows

You marriage vows are a time to express your love for each other in front of family and friends.

Y

our vows are an important part of the wedding ceremony and the memory of them should be with you throughout your married life together. Your vows are the key promises that are the foundation of a happy marriage. Chat with the marriage celebrant to check out the requirements as far as vows are concerned. Legally there could be a couple of important words that need to be included in the ceremony and your marriage celebrant will be happy to advise you. If you decide to write your own vows it can be difficult to get started but bear in mind they should be simple but meaningful.

Discuss and agree with your partner whether you’ll both say the same words or each write individual vows. You should agree on the general tone such as romantic or light hearted. If you are stuck for words write from the heart. Think about what you love most about your fiancé, what are his special qualities. Why do you love him and what does marriage mean to you? You might recall a special memory you share or talk about when you first fell in love. Your vows shouldn’t be too long. Write a draft, read it aloud to friends and adjust until the words express exactly what you want to say.

There is always the option of a 2 or 3-piece suit. A more modern & especially warm weather look is to opt for trousers & waistcoats. Whatever the look you choose, look for quality & a well-fitted suit, as you don’t want to be uncomfortably fidgeting on such an important day.

Wedding Plan Checklist Even the simplest wedding requires careful planning to ensure everything runs like clockwork 6 months or more before your wedding: ✦ Decide on the type of wedding, number of guests, style of reception and a budget ✦ Choose the venue and time for the ceremony and reception ✦ Check venue and caterer availability and book ✦ Select and book a celebrant or meet the minister or priest at your church ✦ Secure your best man, groomsmen and bridal attendants’ ✦ Draw up a provisional guest list ✦ Decide on a wedding theme and colour scheme ✦ Choose the type of music ✦ Select your wedding gown ✦ Look for a photographer and/or videographer ✦ Order wedding transport 3 months before: ✦ Chosen attendant’s dresses and outfits ✦ Arranged hire and fitting for menswear ✦ Decided on the reception menu with the caterer ✦ Finalised ceremony details including music ✦ Ordered invitations and other stationery ✦ Compiled the wedding gift list or organised registry ✦ Ordered the cake ✦ Booked the florist ✦ Bought the rings ✦ Chosen gifts for attendants, each other, parents and mementos for guests ✦ Booked wedding night accommodation and honeymoon travel ✦ Had a trial makeup and hairstyling

Over the final 4-6 weeks ✦ Confirm all arrangements for the ceremony and reception ✦ Have final fittings for the groom and grooms men’s outfits, bridesmaids and bridal gown ✦ Organise hen and stag parties ✦ Prepare a final seating plan for the reception and write place cards Things to do week before wedding: ✦ Confirm your wedding-day beauty appointments and get your manicure and pedicure. (Better to leave this until you only have one or two days to go!) Buy the colours you end up using to fix any accidental last-minute chips. ✦ Grooms: Get a haircut. If you head to the barber when you’re more than a week out, your hair could look shaggy. Get it cut too close to the big day and you run the risk of looking like it’s sixth grade picture day. ✦ Grooms, pick up your suit and brides, your dress. Do one last fitting in the store before taking it home — it will give you more time for any last minute alterations. ✦ Practice walking and dancing in your wedding shoes. ✦ Call guests who have missed the RSVP deadline. You’ll need the final headcount for your venue and caterer.

or family member to distribute on your wedding day. Ask him or her to greet each vendor and be the point person for questions. ✦ Call and re-confirm every last detail with each of your vendors including date, time, and location. Don’t forget to provide them with contact info for their point person on the day-of. (You’ll be too busy getting ready to direct traffic!) Make sure your photographer has your shot list, your DJ has your song list, and that your venue knows when each vendor will be arriving to set up. ✦ Create a seating chart for your reception and share the final version with your caterer, venue manager, reception host and hostess, and wedding coordinator. ✦ If you didn’t order escort cards with your stationery, it’s time to put on your DIY hat and make them. (Ask your craftiest ‘maid for some assistance if necessary!) ✦ Provide drivers with a schedule and list of names, phone numbers, and addresses for pickup and drop off. ✦ Shop and pack for your honeymoon. Though your girls will make sure you’re covered in the wedding-night lingerie department (what else are bachelorette parties for?!), bikinis, sun dresses, and SPF 50 won’t buy themselves.

✦ Communicate the wedding-day schedule, any special duties, and important contact information to your parents, the wedding party, and your wedding coordinator. A document with call-times for everyone playing a large role in your day will help everything stay on schedule.

✦ Gather a wedding-day emergency kit that includes fashion tape, safety pins, band-aids, mints, and a needle with thread that matches your dress.

✦ Make final payments and if needed named separate envelopes for each vendor. Give them to a trusted friend

✦ Pack a bag for your wedding night. Ask someone to deliver it to the hotel where you’ll be staying.

✦ Writing your own vows? Making a toast? Prepare anything that requires a speech now.
