Message I extend a warm welcome to all our community, whether from our rural hinterland or from just around the corner from the Showgrounds to come and enjoy this region’s greatest celebration of who we are and what we do The Hawke’s Bay Show.

T

he Show is where town and country are at their closest, we love being able to showcase rural life to our local community and bring our rural community together. The Show has a special place in the heart of many as we treasure family memories of days at the Show, car boot picnics, a classic Showtime hot dog and the first glimpse of summer.

This 154th Show will again be a Royal Show and that continues to drive competitors, exhibitors and events from across the country to attend this pinnacle of the A&P Show movement.

Over the last twelve months we have done a lot of work to extend the socialness, entertainment and activities aspects of the Show and you will read in the following pages some of these developments, but don’t take my word for it come along and see it for yourself!

The biggest change for this year’s Show is the introduction of the night Show on Thursday night.

While the Show will run from Wednesday the 18th to Friday the 20th of October for competitors the public gates will open Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday the equestrian and dog trials competitions will be occurring and those supporting these competitors will be able to access the grounds via the main Karamu Road gates. We have extended the closing hours on Thursday the 19th to 8.30pm so that we can capture the opportunity of running a night show with market stalls, food and entertainment. Friday, being Hawke’s Bay anniversary day, our normal hours will return (8.30am to 5 pm) so everyone can get away for that treasured long weekend!

Some things don’t change however and we are again delighted to be showcasing a huge range of rural and lifestyle trade stalls, animal competitions, entertainment and hospitality venues.

Bringing together this Show takes all year. We have a wonderful team who put in a huge number of hours and most of them do it as volunteers. We truly appreciate their support. The smiles on the faces of our local community as they soak up and enjoy each part of this great Show is what brings them back each year.

We are going to be open till 8.30 pm (last gate entry 8pm) with lots of shopping and food options to keep you busy- and Mahons Amusements will be running their “Moonlight Madness” carnival until 10pm!

At 6.30 pm we kick off fff “The Hits and Hawke’s BayToday Showtime Spectacular” in the new entertainment ring in front of the Grandstand - it is going to be the place to be.

Get the gang together and grab a seat in the Grandstand, or for those more party inclined, in our new licensed hospitality zone “Brewery Lane and Vintners Alley” to view the action. It is going to be a great night.

We have put together a program of rural kiwiana before the Beat Girls rock the arena - so don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes!

How to get to the Show

Public entry to the Show is via three gates: Gate 3 off Kenilworth Road Gate 5 off Karamu Road Gate 12 off Elwood Road (Friday Only)

Free Car Parking

There is plenty of free car parking available at the Hawke’s Bay Show. Public parking off Kenilworth Road and Bennett Road (Friday only) with Members parking off Karamu Road.

Disability Car Parking – our Disability Car Park is located off Kenilworth Road.

Food Court

The Show Food Court is located behind the Grandstand, with plenty of seating either under the trees or overlooking the Hastings Heart of Hawke’s Bay Community Stage.There is an amazing selection – from burgers and wraps, seafood to Asian, café style and of course a Show hotdog!

Sweet treats, ice cream and coffee carts are also located in various other positions around the Showgrounds.

EFTPOS

We have the ANZ EFTPOS container located behind the Grandstand.

The container has three ATM machines so there’s plenty of opportunity to get some cash to enjoy the Show.

Lost children & changing facilities

We have the great team from theYMCA on site throughout the Show to take care of any little ones who get lost in the crowds.

Remind your children once you get to the Show that if they are lost, to head to the YMCA tent right next to the Exhibition Hall.

We advise of any lost children during the Show over our Grounds PA system.

The Farmlands Info Kiosk is the place to go for all your Show questions and directions. Open all two days of the Show, located behind the Grandstand, our friendly volunteers can assist with maps, directions and suggestions.

Future sheep competition 2017 Thank you to our strategic sponsors

The Future Sheep competition was developed to inspire and support our young emerging sheep farmers and leaders.

The event provided a platform where nearly 30 competitors show cased their skills, knowledge and understanding of the commercial sheep industry.

A select number of competitors also competed for the Future Sheep Ambassador role - a prestigious student position that allows the winner to be part of the Future Sheep Committee group in 2018. The aim is for the Ambassador to be the ‘youth voice’ in the development and promotion of the commercial sheep industry. The ambassador finalists were interviewed by a panel of industry experts and were required to provide a written presentation.

The competition was held on the 30 September 2017, where competitors were scored on educational modules and hoof scoring. The hook results, over all competition winners and the ambassador will be announced at the Royal Show on Thursday 19 October 2017, at 4pm.

awke’s Bay Show is proud to be one of the largest equestrian competitions in New Zealand with three days of competition across ten arenas.

There will be some beautiful horses in action, wander around and enjoy being up close to some of New Zealand’s top horse and rider combinations.

Royal Show classes include Showjumping in the Farmlands Premier Arena, breed and showing classes in the Livamol President’s Arena, Dressage, Riding for the Disabled, Pleasure horses, Clydesdales, Harness and Donkeys. There will be hundreds of horses and riders on the grounds and thousands of ribbons presented across the three days.

chool’s Day this year has changed to Thursday and we will see more than 1,500 children descend on the Show for a wonderful day out.

The Show provides free admission to primary and intermediate pupils as part of our Schools visit programme so that our future community can have an educational experience in and around the rural sector. On their visit they will take in the Cape to City Environment Shed, Animal World,Taste Hawke’s Bay Pavilion, HandMADE demonstrations, the School Art competition and Hastings Heart of Hawke’s Bay Community Stage.

Fonterra will be back again this year serving breakfast in theTaste Hawke’s Bay Pavilion between 8.30am and 11am as part of their Breakfast in Schools initiative.
