Stevenson & Taylor has been a cornerstone of Central Hawke’s Bay for 75 years with 2026 marking this significant milestone
“Because we’re a family-owned and operated business, and many of our customers are also long-standing family farms, they really value dealing with a company that shares those same values,” says general manager and director Robby Smith “It creates strong connections and has been a key factor in our success ”
Robby has been with Stevenson & Taylor for 26 years, joining straight out of school
“I had the privilege of working with one of the founders, Bill Stevenson, who mentored me That legacy continued through his son Brian Stevenson, who sadly passed away last year. Brian’s son Brett, who has been involved for over 20 years, is now carrying it forward, with his sons Korban and Ethan also part of the business ”
The company was founded in 1951 by Bill Stevenson, Peter Taylor and John Ferguson as a blacksmith shop on Russell Street on the site where New World stands today It soon expanded into repairing bulldozers before moving into machinery sales, later becoming a Case IH and New Holland supplier, celebrating 66 years of partnership last year
Growth saw the business relocate in 2008 to a purposebuilt site on Takapau Road, doubling staff numbers to around 40 In 2023, it expanded further with a new dealership in Hastings, employing a team of eight Today, the company has four directors: Robby Smith, Brett Stevenson, Duncan Harding, and Pete Swinburn, who also farms locally

“Being locally owned, with three of the four directors working in the business every day and Pete bringing farming experience keeps us closely connected to our customers’ needs,” says Robby
Stevenson & Taylor has grown into a full-service agricultural and engineering business offering everything from tractor sales to repairs and engineering solutions
“Because of where we are, we need to do it all to support our community When our customers need us, we need to be there,” Robby says Beyond its services, the company supports local sports clubs, fishing competitions and dog trials.
“Being part of the community is incredibly important
We give back as much as we can because they support us
To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Stevenson & Taylor will host a community event on Friday 17 July with daytime activities for the public and an evening function for customers and suppliers
“Stevenson & Taylor is a long-standing part of our town, and I’m proud to be part of that legacy,” says Robby “Looking ahead, we aim to keep growing while continuing to provide a high level of service to farmers in our region
