The more money we have in the Gisborne/ Tairawhiti economy, the better it is for us all.
From what I am hearing from Gisborne Chamber of Commerce members, business confidence is higher than in previous quarters, and there is more of an appetite for taking on new, qualified staff locally This is great news for the region after a tough couple of years following Cyclone Gabrielle
Improving beef prices and positive signs for horticultural exports are also good indicators for the region. When farmers and growers are doing well, their spending on big ticket items like farm vehicles or tractors goes up
There is still work to do in the region to improve infrastructure quality and resilience, but we have many qualified capable businesses that can get this region back up and running.
There is a potential benefit for local businesses from the Government’s investment boost for businesses, allowing them to deduct 20% of a new productive asset’s value from
their tax return. This is the perfect time to get out and buy new products from your local supplier or agent.
What we also need to do as a region is work together for greater economic prosperity The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gisborne District Council (GDC).
We’ve built strong momentum with the GDC, and this MoU confirms our shared intent to keep delivering for our members and for the region.
The partnership will continue to focus on practical initiatives across planning, consenting, economic resilience, and business engagement – all grounded in the economic transformation of our region
The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce also works alongside Trust Tairawhiti on economic activities such as tourism and attracting new business to the region. We want people in business to stay here and thrive, not gravitate away to other regions or overseas.
