10 Signs Your Child Is Ready for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Choosing TK in Los Gatos is an exciting step for your family. Every child learns in their own way. Some are ready early. Others need more time. That is completely normal.

1. Your Child Likes to Play with Others Children who enjoy playing with friends often do well in TK. They learn to share, take turns, and work together. These simple skills help them feel comfortable in class.

2. They Can Follow Easy Directions Your child should be able to follow simple steps. For example, they can: • Put toys away. • Wash their hands. • Sit when asked. These daily habits make classroom routines easier.

3. They Ask Lots of Questions Curious children enjoy learning. They may ask about animals, weather, or how things work. This interest helps them explore new ideas every day.

4. They Feel Comfortable Away from You Many children feel nervous at first. That is expected. Still, if your child can stay with another trusted adult for a while, they may be ready for school. This shows growing confidence.

5. They Try to Do Things Alone Independence grows little by little. Your child may: • Put on shoes. • Wash hands. • Use the bathroom. • Clean up toys. These skills help them become more confident.

6. They Can Stay with One Activity Young children move quickly from one thing to another. Even so, they should enjoy one activity for about 10 minutes. • Drawing pictures. • Building with blocks. • Doing puzzles.

7. They Can Tell You What They Need Children should be able to use simple words to explain their needs. For example: • “I need help.” • “I’m thirsty.” • “I don’t feel well.” Good communication helps teachers care for them. 8. They Love Creative Play Creative play is an important part of learning. 8. They Love Creative Play Creative play is an important part of learning. Painting, singing, dancing, and pretend games help children build thinking skills and confidence. They also learn to express themselves.

9. They Notice Letters and Numbers Your child does not need to read before TK. It is enough if they enjoy counting, singing the alphabet, or spotting letters around them. Learning should feel fun, not stressful.

10. They Enjoy Learning Through Play Play teaches children many life skills. While playing, they learn to solve problems, make choices, and work with others. These lessons prepare them for kindergarten.

Conclusion Every child grows at their own pace. There is no perfect checklist. If your child shows many of these signs, they may be ready for the next step. A caring classroom will help them learn, make friends, and enjoy new experiences.
