The new Holgate library branch in Southeast Portland will ocially open on July 13, Multnomah County announced Monday.

Thefacilityat7905S.E.HolgateBlvd.isthecounty’s rstnewpermanentlibrarytoopeninmorethanadecade. Thetwo-story,21,000-square-footstructureismorethanthreetimesthesizeofthelibraryit’sreplacing.

The$27millionprojectwasdesignedby BoraArchitecture&Interiors andbuiltbygeneralcontractor Swinerton.Holgateisthe rstnewlibrarybuildingconstructedwithmoneyfromthe$387millionbondmeasure approvedbyvotersinNovember2020.

“Oneofthemostimportanteastsidelibrarieshas nallygottenthemakeoverthiscommunitydeserves,” MultnomahCountyChairwomanJessicaVegaPedersonstated.

Theprojectisontracktoreceivea LeadershipinEnergyandEnvironmentalDesign (https://www.usgbc.org/leed) goldratingfromthe U.S.GreenBuildingCouncil.Theprojectwillbedeliveredon timeandonbudget,accordingtoPederson.

Thebuilding’sinteriorandexteriorcolorsweredeterminedbythecommunitywithnearly3,000votescast. “Soothinggreen”shadesinspiredbynaturewon,thecountystated.

Facilityhighlightsincludeseveralcommunityroomsequippedwithaudio-visualtechnology,modernselfcheckoutstations,booklockers,anenclosedspaceforteensandanoutdoorplaza.

“WhencommunitymemberscomethroughthedoorsofthenewHolgate,wehopetheyfeelthatthisistheir library,”AnnieLewis,MultnomahCountyLibrary’sinterimdirector,stated.“Theirdiversevisionhelpedguidethe designofHolgateeverystepoftheway.”

TheHolgatebranchwillhostactivitiesJuly13-15tocelebrateitsocialopening.
