NAS

Dear Prospective New NCS Family, Thank you for considering Northwest Christian School for your family. For more than 45 years, NCS has been committed to our mission to: “Provide a bible-based education of excellence that enables students to develop a Biblical worldview”. This letter is designed to give you an overview of the NCS admissions process and policies. If you would like to learn more about NCS, the first step is to submit an online inquiry or application via the NCS Website. Once you have submitted an online inquiry or an online application, you will receive an email invitation to connect to Blackbaud ID. Once you have created a log in, you will have access to your NCS enrollment portal so that you can access the Admissions Information webpage that has more information regarding Open House events, campus tours, group tours, placement testing, and more. Step 1: Application & Fee If you are ready to submit an application for children ages 15 months through 12th grade, for the Traditional On-Campus, Online or Flex programs go to www.ncsaz.org and select “Apply Now". Create an account and then select the appropriate application, grade level, program and school year for each child. Complete the application and digitally submit online with the one-time, non-refundable $50 application fee. Please complete a new student application for each student applicant. Each family will have one NCS Admissions portal for all of their children. After submitting the application, you will get a detailed “next-step” email. Each parent/guardian will need to have a separate email address to initiate parent-specific log-in credentials. Step 2: Upload Required Documents to Obtain a Complete Checklist Once you access your NCS family admissions portal, you will be assigned a checklist. You may ignore items marked with a green checkmark as they have been waived, don’t apply to a particular grade or program, or you have already completed the item. Items marked “optional” or “if applicable” are not required. The required documents needed to complete an application file vary by the child’s age, program, and grade level. Please upload all required documents directly into the student’s enrollment checklist. Step 3: Placement Testing (By Invite Only) Placement testing for current and future grades K-9th, is by invitation only. Not all applicants will be invited to test based on space and other factors. If testing is requested, the Admissions Team will reach out to you. There is a one-time, non-refundable testing fee of $30. Step 4: Family Interview Once the application file is complete with all required documents and the placement testing results received (testing by invitation only), the file will be reviewed. If approved and space appears to be clearing in your child’s grade, the respective secretary will then reach out to you to schedule a family interview with the Principal. A family interview does not guarantee enrollment or that space will clear. NCS does not schedule interviews for Online or Flex students. The family interview requires that both the student and parents attend. Step 5: Acceptance and Enrollment Acceptance letters are sent out beginning in March and throughout the spring and summer as openings emerge. Wait lists are possible in some grades, even after an interview has been completed. Once an acceptance letter is received, a family has 10 business days to accept the offer to enroll by submitting the annual registration fee and enrollment agreement via their blackbaud portal. May God bless you as you seek a Christ-centered education of excellence for your family. I am truly blessed to serve you and look forward to getting to know you in the months ahead. Joyfully Serving Him,

Joni Keith Joni Keith Director of Admissions, Marketing & Development Northwest Christian School

NCS considers many factors when accepting new students including: church/community involvement, written parent testimony, doctrinal/parent agreement, academic records, prior teacher and NCS faculty recommendations, family size, alumni status, sibling enrollment status, NCS employee status, application completeness, family interview, placement testing, classroom space, student conduct, and attendance records. Qualified students who remain on the waitlist in August may have an opportunity to enroll during the school year should an opening become available. Waitlisted applications are not automatically carried over into the following school year. The Admissions Office will reach out in September to determine whether you would like your student to remain on the waitlist for the upcoming school year. A prior-year waitlist status does not guarantee enrollment the following year. Students with D/F grades on a recent report card or conduct infractions may need to wait one full year to become eligible for enrollment. Students with IEP/504 plans should upload a copy to the enrollment portal for an NCS Principal to review before applying to the school. NCS may not be able to accommodate all IEP/504 requirements. TO REQUEST INFORMATION OR TO SUBMIT A NEW STUDENT APPLICATION: Visit the NCS website and select “Admissions” and then “Inquire or Apply Now”. Online inquiries and applicants will be sent an email with next-step instructions to access a family enrollment portal. The admissions process includes several steps that are completely portal based, paperless, and parent-driven. This portal will include an enrollment checklist for each student applicant and will list the admissions steps including: document uploads, digital recommendation links, admission events, and placement testing requirements for K-9th grade (by invitation only). Calculating the GPA The forumula Northwest Christian School uses to calculate the cumulative GPA is based on equating percentages with quality point. The quality points used by NCS are:

Grading Scale 98 - 100 (A+) 93 - 97 (A) 93 - 100 (A) 90 - 92 (A-) 87 - 89 (B+ 83 - 86 (B) 80 - 82 (B-)

Quality Points 4.33 Prior to 2019 4.00 Prior to 2019 4.00 3.67 3.33 3.00 2.67

Grading Scale 77 - 79 (C+) 73 - 76 (C) 70 - 72 (C-) 67 - 69 (D+) 63 - 66 (D) 60 - 62 (D-) 0 - 59 (F)

Quality Points 2.33 2.00 1.67 1.33 1.00 0.67 0.00

*The graduating class of 2019 and beyond will earn up to 4.0 (5.0 for honors) cum GPA. An “A” (93-100) = 4.0 points, everything else remains the same. To calculate the GPA, the semester grade for each class is equated to one of the above quality points. The additional quality point for a 5.33 class (5.0 for 2019 and beyond) is added after all quality points have been totaled. The total quality points are divided by the number of classes that have been taken for credit. The final result is the GPA (grade point average). At the end of each semester, the GPA is recalculated for the cumulative grade point average.

ROWING NOT DRIFTING ROWINGTOGETHER TOWARDCHRIST: NAVIGATING WITH PURPOSE, EXCELLENCE, ANDFAITH

What is Rowing Not Drifting? "Rowing, Not Drifting" is an annual report unlike any that you have ever read. It is the culmination of fifteen years of honest, self-effacing fact-finding and data-gathering. And, all of that self-reflection is represented with the pages of "Rowing Not Drifting" for you to consider as you ponder your prospective place your place in the mission of Northwest Christian School.

Doctrinal Statement 

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, infallible and supernaturally inspired, so that it is inerrant in the original manuscripts and preserved by God in its verbal, plenary inspiration, so that it is a divinely authoritative standard for every age and every life. This doctrinal statement does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs as that we believe that the Bible serves as the sole and final authority concerning all matters pertaining to truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind.

We believe that the Godhead exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that these three are one God.

We believe in God as absolute and sole creator of the universe, and that creation was by divine decree, not through evolutionary process.

We believe that God, by His sovereign choice and out of love for men, sent Christ into the world to save sinners.

We believe that Jesus Christ in the flesh was both God and man, that He was born of a virgin and that He lived a sinless life, in which He taught and did mighty works with signs and wonders exactly as revealed in the four Gospels, that He was crucified, died as a penalty for our sin and was raised from the dead bodily on the third day. Later, He ascended to the Father's right hand where He is Head of the Church and intercedes for believers, and from where He is coming again personally, bodily, visibly to the earth to set up His millennial kingdom.

We believe that since in His death, by His shed blood, the Lord Jesus Christ made a perfect atonement for sin, redeeming us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us – men are saved, justified on the simple and single ground of the shed blood.

We believe that such salvation with its forgiveness of sins, imparts a new nature and hope of eternal life, is entirely apart from good works, baptism, church membership or man's effort and is a pure grace.

We believe that a true believer is eternally secure, that he cannot lose his salvation, but that sin may interrupt the joy of his fellowship with God and bring the loving discipline of his Heavenly Father.

We believe that all who receive Christ become joint-heirs with Christ, and at death, their spirits depart to be with Christ in conscious blessedness, and at the rapture their bodies will be raised to the likeness of the body of His glory and dwell forever in His divine presence.

We believe that it is the goal of every Christian to grow in spiritual maturity through obedience to the Word of God and the indwelling Holy Spirit. Northwest Christian School Doctrinal Statement (last revision: August 1, 2019)

STATEMENT OF FAITH (continued) 

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, is God and possesses all the divine attributes. He indwells all believers, baptizes and seals all believers at the moment of their salvation, and fills them in response to confession of sin and yieldedness.

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. We believe that human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions including pre-born babies, the aged, the physical or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are, therefore, called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Psalm 139)

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as a male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen 1:26-27) We believe that rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen 2:18-25) We believe that the institution of marriage is established in scripture as an ordinance that points the world to the relationship which God desires for His church. (Eph 5:25-27; Rev 19:7-9; Rev 21:2-9; Isaiah 54:5)

We believe marriage is ordained of God and is a spiritual and physical union in which a man and a woman are joined by God to live together as one. (Genesis 2:24; Mark 10:7) We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, transgenderism, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex and identity. (Genesis 2:24; Genesis 19:5, 13; Genesis 26:8-9; Lev. 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; I Corinthians 5:1, 6:9; I Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4)

We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Northwest Christian School as an extension of the Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the community, it is imperative that all parents and guardians of enrolled students at Northwest Christian School and all persons that are employed by or volunteer with Northwest Christian School in any capacity, agree to and abide by this doctrinal statement. (Matt 5:16; Phil 2:14-16; 1Thess 5:22)

Northwest Christian School Parental Responsibility Agreement 1.

We understand the Bible teaches us that, as parents, we are responsible for the education of our children, and it is our desire that Northwest Christian School assist us in this responsibility. We agree to support the school faculty and staff as they assist us in educating our child.

2.

We invest authority in the school to discipline our child when necessary. We further agree that we will cooperate and discipline our child in the home as needed (Proverbs 13:24). We will also read the school discipline policy that is in the student handbook.

3.

We pledge our fullest cooperation to keep doctrinal controversy and denominationalism out of the school at all times.

4.

We understand that the parents are the natural leaders of their families. Children will follow if parents give strong Christ-honoring leadership. We are committed to work hand in hand with NCS in order “to train up our child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6).

5.

We understand that the school exists to support the values of the Christian home. Our home is committed to upholding strong biblical standards of lifestyle, including commitment to and involvement with a local church.

6.

We understand that our failure to report psychiatric counseling, any prescribed program of medication, or involvement with juvenile authorities during the past three years may be cause for immediate dismissal.

7.

We agree to support the school with our prayers and with a positive attitude. Complaints or negative comments will be shared only with the teacher, administrator, or person involved, and not with our child or other people, following the Matthew 18 principle.

8.

We understand that the school reserves the right to dismiss any student who does not:

a. Respect and observe spiritual and/or behavioral standards. b. Cooperate with our educational goals. c. Conform to the dress and hair code policy. 9.

We understand that if at any time the school determines, in its sole discretion that our actions do not support the ministry, or reflect a lack of cooperation and commitment to the home and school working together, the school has the right to request withdrawal of the student.

10.

We understand the school retains the right to refuse admission to or to remove from enrollment any student whose custodial parent is in cohabitation or a same-sex relationship.

11.

We give permission for our child to go on field trips arranged by the teacher and approved by the administration. The educational trips will be properly supervised, and our family insurance program will cover our child. We will not hold the school, administration, or faculty responsible in case of accident. Notification will be given us prior to each field trip.

12.

We understand that in the event our child damages school property, assessments will be made to cover these damages, including breakage of windows and abuse of other personal property.

13.

We understand that tuition will be divided into eleven monthly payments. The first payment is due August 1, and on the first day of each of the following ten months. The last payment is due on June 1. Any payment received after the seventh day of the month will be considered late, and our account will be assessed a $25 late charge. When an account becomes more than 60 days past due, the student will not be allowed to attend class until the account is brought current.

14.

We understand that graduating seniors must make their final tuition payment before participating in graduation ceremonies.

Application & Fee: The admissions process is a portal-based, paperless system. Visit NCSaz.org and select ‘Apply Now’ to submit the application & pay the associated fee. You will receive a confirmation email with instructions to gain access to your students’ enrollment checklist within the portal. *Application, testing, and registration fees are non-refundable. Upload Required Documents: Via your child’s checklist, upload all required documents, send digital recommendations, and digitally sign required school forms. Once all required documents are submitted, you will have obtained a ‘complete checklist’. Kindergarten Readiness Testing: Placement testing is by invitation only. The admissions team will send you an invitation to register and pay for placement testing once your child’s checklist is complete with all documents and after an audit of space and a comprehensive review of the complete checklist has been finalized. Not all K-9th grade candidates will be invited to take the placement test due to space and other enrollment requirements. We offer in-person and online testing options. *Application, testing, and registration fees are non-refundable. Family Interview with the Principal: Family interviews are scheduled for families with “ground” students entering P1-12 once all files are complete and space is confirmed. Due to waitlists and other factors, not all ground candidates will be invited for a family interview. Online, Flex, Frameworks and ‘A La Carte’ online students are not required to have an interview. Enrollment Agreement: Upon completion of a Family Interview and with Principal approval, the Admissions Office will issue an Enrollment Agreement to the family through the portal. Completion of this agreement along with the registration fee confirms enrollment.

EXTENDED CARE INFORMATION Extended Care Extended Care is designed for children currently registered at NCS who need additional care outside of the regular school day. This service is provided for students in early education, 15 months through fifth grade at NCS. Extended Care teachers are background checked and provide a safe and less structured environment for our before and after school program. Extended Care is approved based on availability and requires specific forms to be filled out and submitted before attendance. Prior approval must be obtained through the Early Education office for each attended day. Extended Care is not designed to be a holding place for late pick-ups, but rather a class for parents who need additional care in the morning/afternoon. Students who are not enrolled in After Care and are not picked up on time will be transferred to Extended Care and charged a late pickup fee of $25. If you are signing up for Extended Care on a regular basis, you will be charged $7.50 an hour for your scheduled hours. Extended Care may be used on an occasional drop-in basis, depending on space availability, at $8.00 an hour. All requests for occasional care must be pre-approved on a daily basis through the Early Education office. Please make these requests by 2pm to ensure space availability.

Early Education Extended Care Hours (Mini Crusaders, Preschool, Kindergarten) Extended Care is available on school days from 7:30am to the start of class and/or dismissal through 5:30pm. These Blue Cards will only be accepted by the Early Education office to ensure compliance to all form details. No child may attend until a Blue Card is received. Elementary Students (1st - 5th grade) do not need a Blue Card.

Elementary Extended Care (1st - 5th Grade) Extended Care is available on school days from dismissal through 5:30pm..

STUDENT EDUCATIONAL SERVICES Student Educational Services Student Educational Services provides services to the students at NCS in a variety of capacities. It is our desire to provide a Christian education to students and to serve those students whose needs can be met within the classrooms on campus. While we fully recognize that we cannot meet every child’s needs, we do seek to provide services to those children who can function in a traditional classroom with a modicum of support. Please Note: When parents are concerned about their child’s progress, they should first speak with their child’s teacher and then a Student Study Team meeting (S.S.T.) may be scheduled with the Principal to assess next steps and develop a plan of action. Referral to Student Educational Services or other services off campus are usually initiated through the SST meeting. The scope of SES has grown to meet the needs of students at every age and stage. Most of the time SES vendors work with families through direct pay from the family to the vendor. A few of the vendors work with us to provide consultative services for those times when a teacher needs more information as to how to help a child in class. Each vendor is professionally and educationally qualified to provide the services described. The vendors adhere to our Statement of Faith and are fingerprinted and certified. The following provides a description of service provided through Student Educational Services.

Outside Services Southwest Human Development: NCS partners with SWHD to provide support for teachers in the early education program, Preschool and Mini Crusaders. SWHD provides a coach that works with the classroom teacher. Teachers are provided suggestions to increase student engagement and success in the early education classroom. No students are worked with directly, the teacher is provided the support to better understand student needs. Parents are supported through the education provided by the teacher. AzEIP: NCS works with Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP). This statewide interagency system of supports and services helps us with children through age 3 with identified developmental delays or disabilities and their families. AzEIP partners with community providers like NCS to support families. Contact the Director of Early Education for information regarding the services mentioned above.

SES Facilitators and Services on the NCS Campus Barton Tutoring: Barton Tutoring provides reading tutoring through the Barton Reading Program. This systematic and phonological approach to reading has a verifiable positive impact on students struggling to read in the first years of school. Parents may use the materials for their child on campus, they can trade services with other parents for tutoring or parents can utilize a paid tutor. The program must be used on campus as it is a site-licensed program. Tutors are required to participate in the training program. Students are tested at each level of Barton Tutoring prior to moving on to the next level. Contact Colleen Pfitzinger for more information. cpfitzinger@ncsaz.org. Occupational Therapy: NCS partners with Cornerstone Pediatric in both consultative services as well as school-based services for children with identified needs. For questions about the process for involvement with school based OT at NCS please contact one of the principals. Contact Cornerstone Pediatric for more information. kirsty.chris.stclair@gmail.com

STUDENT EDUCATIONAL SERVICES (CONTINUED) Speech and Language: Building Blocks, Inc. provides speech and language assessment at NCS followed up with services on campus for those students with identified needs in the areas of articulation, receptive language, expressive language, and pragmatics. The program is direct pay as the speech therapist works with students in the SES classroom during the school day. For questions about the process for involvement with speech and language services at NCS please contact the elementary principal or early education director. Or, contact Building Blocks for more information at buildingblocksspeech@gmail.com Student Tutors: Our high school students involved with the National Honor Society often agree to provide tutoring services for our elementary students at a very reasonable rate. Please check with the elementary principal for a list of student tutors if you might be interested in services for your child. Contact our Guidance Services Director, Maggie Kipp, for more information. mkipp@ncsaz.org DIBELS and PELI: NCS provides screening through DIBELS and PELI testing for students as we continue to provide excellence in reading education at NCS. These screenings provide information for teachers on growth in reading processes. Contact your grade-specific administrator for more information.

Outside Assessment Services School Districts: Northwest Christian School (NCS) works directly with the districts surrounding it (Washington Elementary School District and Glendale Union High School District) to provide academic testing as well as information on academic support to students with learning disabilities. Each district provides TAP meetings and follow-up testing. The relationships with the districts are positive. Districts only provide testing when the team (comprised of NCS personnel, district personnel, and the parents agree. For more information contact the high school guidance counselor, Magge Kipp for the high school program with GUHSD. mkipp@ncsaz.org For the K – 8 program, please contact Melissa Burkert, the NCS liaison for testing services with WESD. mburkett@ncsaz.org Academic Testing and Services: There are times when parents prefer to use direct pay or insurance to cover the cost of academic testing as the school and family work together to determine the scope of a child’s needs in school. NCS works with a number of off-site services that provide testing and information. Contact your grade specific administrator for a list of providers. Counseling: NCS works with a variety of off campus counseling services . For a list of services available at parent cost please contact your grade-specific administrator. Vision Therapy: NCS works with Accent Eye Care to direct students with identified needs for vision therapy. This program provides screening and services for students who struggle with vision and tracking. Contact Accent Eye Care for more information. Dr. Aleta Gong 602-547-3255.

ANNUAL TESTING PROFILE STAR Testing at All Levels STAR is an educational assessment that is used to measure student growth throughout the year and determine individual student proficiency. We adopted STAR for the 2026–2027 school year. It is based on Arizona State Standards and aligned with state test proficiency cut scores. STAR allows us to measure student mastery across math and ELA standards while also helping us compare our students’ performance to public schools across the nation. We previously used Galileo for testing but transitioned to STAR this year. STAR is an adaptive assessment that helps teachers identify where students are academically in both math and English. Because this is our first year using STAR, we are establishing baseline data that will allow us to more accurately measure student growth throughout the year and in future years.

NCS Online NCS Online students participate in STAR testing at all levels.

Elementary DIBELS 8

We use DIBELS 8 primarily in our K-2 classes to monitor the development of reading and literacy skills. DIBELS measures reading outcomes of individual students and provides grade level feedback for teachers to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions. DIBELS breaks students into four categories, Negligible Risk, Minimal Risk, Some Risk, and At Risk and we use that data to further support students in 3-5th grade.

Middle School Pre-ACT

In 8th grade students will begin taking the Pre-ACT. Pre-ACT is a predictor of how students will do on the ACT, while allowing students to practice questions similar to what they will see on the test.

High School Pre-ACT PSAT

High school students sit for the PSAT in the Fall of their Junior year. The PSAT-NMSQT is one additional way to best prepare them for the ACT or SAT. The PSAT is highly relevant to future potential as they focus on the skills and knowledge learned in high school and provide insight for college success. Students receive unique SAT practice recommendations, an option to show colleges and universities that students want to connect with them, and assess skill levels and readiness for college and career. The NMSQT or National Merit Scholarship is awarded to the highest achieving test scorers in the nation and can provide scholarship money and a competitive edge on some college applications. NCS had three NMSQT Commended students in 2021, 1 NMSQT Finalist in 2022 and 3 Commended students in 2023.

ASVAB The ASVAB is a career assessment that helps students know possible career paths they may be suited for.

ACT ACT is given to every Junior at NCS with about 50% of seniors opting to take it again their 12th grade year. The ACT allows us to see how our students compare to the state and national averages, as well as get a picture of how they grew in high school from the Pre-ACT to the ACT. Our graduating seniors of 22-23 had a composite average of 23.

The Sutton Project The Sutton Project is a special part of NCS involving students campus-wide from Early Education through High School and including our Online, Online Flex and Homeschool Flex students! What originally began more than 16 years ago as a project to provide Thanksgiving meal boxes to families in need at JB Sutton Elementary School has turned into a much larger and more impactful campus-wide campaign The Sutton Project.

Thanksgiving Meal Boxes

The Sutton Project, now the largest missions learning project on campus, epitomizes our mission fulfillment for all students as we meet the needs of those in our surrounding community. Through The Sutton Project we now provide 1700 Thanksgiving meal boxes for families at 16 different elementary schools across six districts. These food boxes serve as a sign of hope to those in a broken and needy community. We also partner with the local church to provide within the boxes an invitation to join their church community. Early Education and Elementary students participate by collecting/donating canned goods for the meal boxes. Middle School and High School students collect/donate money to go towards turkey vouchers that are provided within each box. At the end of the campaign, every student campus-wide participates in a ‘packing’ event to compile the various components of each box in an assembly-line setting. This is one of the best days on campus! High School Student Council then delivers and unloads the completed Thanksgiving meal boxes to each school!

Christmas Gifts

As we wrap up our Thanksgiving meal boxes, we immediately turn our attention to Christmas. The NCS community provides over 1200 Christmas gifts that are delivered to students at 3 elementary schools. These schools serve a significant number of refugees and their families. NCS high school students experience the joy of delivering these gifts to the students of these schools and have the opportunity to see our mission in action as we meet the needs of those less fortunate than us.

Sutton Game Day

Our Middle School Student Council hosts 3rd grade students from JB Sutton on our campus for ‘Game Day’. NCS middle school students enjoy a day of fun and opportunities to create community with our friends from Sutton!

According to Matthew 25:35-40, we are called to feed and clothe the needy. This project is a means by which our student body can come to understand that scriptural principle personally.

NCS Mission Trips NCS plans and provides four amazing international mission trip opportunities for several reasons, the biggest being to pursue the mission of NCS by "Enabling students to develop a Biblical worldview and prepare them to fulfill their God-ordained role in the home, the church, their country, and the world." We see the theology students learn at NCS and in their churches becoming reality as they take what they have learned and put it into practice. We do this by coming alongside rooted organizations to meet tangible needs and build meaningful relationships!

Kids Kingdom in Imuris, Sonora, Mexico NCS has developed a beautiful relationship with Kids Kingdom Orphanage in Imuris, Sonora, Mexico over the last 14+ years. Each summer, NCS students serve the community of Imuris and Kids Kingdom Orphanage through preparing meals, teaching English and giving love away freely to kids in Imuris for 7 days! Students put on two VBS programs, as well as being the Light of Jesus to some sweet people at a sweet place! Throughout the school year, NCS sends students and staff to Kids Kingdom in Imuris for weekend trips 5-7 times. Our students have developed incredible relationships with their friends at Kids Kingdom and return many times throughout the year!

HOPE Center in Pavas, Costa Rica NCS students travel to Pavas, Costa Rica to help the team at the HOPE center in their mission of Rescue and Transformation. They rescue children and families for severe hunger and poverty, and transform them with the Gospel and the Hope that comes with life in Christ. Our students help serve by doing work projects to improve their community, and also put on a week long camp for 5th and 6th graders.

City of Joy Rwanda in Rwanda, Africa NCS Students and staff travel to the City of Joy Christian School in Rwanda to help serve for 10 days. This trip provides students with the opportunity to work alongside City of Joy Christian School and the Gatagara School for the Deaf. Three years ago our school began a partnership with City of Joy and we have loved getting to know the students, teachers and area. We now work to share Professional Development with teachers and help with kids in this area.

1Mission in Rocky Point, Mexico NCS students have the opportunity to head to Mexico to serve the community of Rocky Point by coming along side a family and helping in the construction of their new home! We partner with 1Mission to make this trip happen. We also send a group of alumni every year to participate in a 1Mission trip.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:17-20

TUITION ASSISTANCE

ESA VS. PRIVATE SCHOOL TAX CREDIT

OVERVIEW Arizona offers two excellent School Choice programs to help families afford a Christian education: the Private School Tax Credit and the Universal ESA. These valuable options are widely used by families at Northwest Christian School to make a quality Christian education more accessible. Explore the details of both programs here, and find the resources you need to determine which one is the best fit for your family.

PRIVATE SCHOOL TAX CREDIT

UNIVERSAL ESA

OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW

The Arizona School Tuition Organization (STO) program is a school choice option that allows Arizona taxpayers to redirect a portion of their state income tax liability to support private school tuition for eligible students. This initiative provides financial assistance to students who attend private schools by using tax credits rather than state funds. The Arizona tax credit system incentivizes taxpayers to contribute to private school tuition funds. By donating to an STO, individuals or corporations can reduce their Arizona state tax bill. This allows taxpayers to effectively "redirect" their tax dollars to support educational opportunities that align with their preferences, without spending extra money out of pocket.

The Arizona Universal Education Savings Account (ESA) program, which was implemented in 2022, is a school choice initiative that allows all Arizona K-12 students, regardless of income or disability status, to receive state funds to use for a variety of educational expenses. These funds can be used for private school tuition, tutoring, special education services, online learning, college savings, and other approved educational costs.

ELIGIBILITY Eligibility varies for each type of Private School Tax Credit. Learn more on the NCS Website under Admissions > Tuition Assistance.

FUNDING AMOUNT There is potential for the full cost of tuition to be covered through the Private School Tax Credit program. Students can receive a combination of different types of tax credits in order to fully cover the tuition amount.

CONSIDERATIONS You cannot use both ESA and receive money from STO’s, you must choose one option or the other. Your total, combined award amount is unlimited meaning you can combine awards from multiple STO sources. This means you have the potential to get the full tuition amount covered. Unused individual tax credits can carry over to future years if your results exceed the cost of tuition for the year. You can "Bank" tax credits (not corporate) for future use while using ESA. You can switch off every other year using ESA and then Tax Credits in order to allow your "Bank" of tax credits to build up.

USING PRIVATE SCHOOL TAX CREDITS FOR TUITION & FEES AT NCS Family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc allocate their state tax liability to your student through an STO in return the funds can be applied to your students tuition. Applications for the upcoming school year begin opening in January. Each STO has their own timeline. If you are corporate qualifying we highly recommend you apply to all of the STO's on our list. AAA & AOA are great corporate options as they typically award at the corporate maximum each year (currently $6,300 K-8, $8,100 9-12) and can be stacked with other corporate awards and tax credits. Families are responsible for the balance of tuition not covered by STO/Tax credit funds.

ELIGIBILITY The Universal ESA program is open to all Arizona students, including those currently enrolled in public, private, charter, or homeschool settings. Students who are currently enrolled in public schools can apply to receive an ESA, which provides them with funds to attend a private school or to pursue alternative educational options. There are no income restrictions, and any student who is a resident of Arizona is eligible to apply.

FUNDING AMOUNT The amount of funding available to each student is based on the state's per-pupil funding for public schools. The funds are deposited into an individual education savings account (ESA) for each student, which can be accessed through a designated online portal. Students may receive on average, anywhere between $7,000-$7,500 annually. Kindergarten students receive closer to $4,000.

CONSIDERATIONS You cannot use both ESA and receive money from STO’s, you must choose one option or the other. If you choose to use ESA, you are guaranteed to receive money, however in most cases, it will not cover the full cost of tuition. You can switch off every other year using ESA and then Tax Credits in order to allow your "Bank" of tax credits to build up.

USING ESA FOR TUITION & FEES AT NCS First, apply for the Universal ESA by visiting the website and filling out the application. It currently takes approximately 60 days to receive an approval from the state and determine how much you are eligible to receive. Once approved, monies will be dispersed in your ESA account quarterly: May, April, June, July. You will be expected to pay monthly tuition at NCS, so you must be on top of your payments. To pay NCS, you must login to your ESA portal and distribute the funds to NCS on a monthly basis.

EMPOWERMENT SCHOLARSHIP ACCOUNT UNIVERSAL ESA OVERVIEW The Arizona Universal Education Savings Account (ESA) program, which was implemented in 2022, is a school choice initiative that allows all Arizona K-12 students, regardless of income or disability status, to receive state funds to use for a variety of educational expenses. These funds can be used for private school tuition, tutoring, special education services, online learning, college savings, and other approved educational costs. The Universal ESA represents a significant expansion of Arizona's previous Education Savings Account programs, which were initially only available to specific groups such as students with disabilities or those attending underperforming public schools.

CONSIDERATIONS You cannot use both ESA and receive money from STO’s, you must choose one option or the other. If you choose to use ESA, you are guaranteed to receive money, however in most cases, it will not cover the full cost of tuition.

Kindergarten students receive $4,000.

USING ESA TO COVER TUITION AND FEES AT NCS First, apply for the Universal ESA by visiting the website and filling out the application. It currently takes approximately 60 days to receive an approval from the state and determine how much you are eligible to receive. Once approved, monies will be dispersed in your ESA account quarterly: May, April, June, July. You will be expected to pay monthly tuition at NCS, so you must be on top of your payments. You cannot use both ESA and receive money from STO’s, you must choose one option or the other. Your total, combined award amount is unlimited meaning you can combine awards from multiple STO sources. This means you have the potential to get the full tuition amount covered. Unused individual tax credits can carry over to future years if your results exceed the cost of tuition for the year.
